I'd be interested to know if any edition owners are a little miffed at apple releasing Gold & Rose Gold versions of the cheapest model? I know that the edition is real gold & shiny as opposed to matt + a higher quality, but from a distance the casual onlooker may assume it's the sport version only.

I think they'd maybe be miffed if Apple created a gold plated version. There's no way someone looks at the gold or rose gold/pink Sport watch and thinks it's an Edition or vice versa.

I returned my 42mm space gray for the 42mm gold sport today. The store employee told me they hadn't arrived in store yet. I didn't believe him because I had already read post that people were taking delivery today, so I asked him to refund me with a store gift card, which he did. I told him that I had Apple care on the watch I was returning, so he said it would be best to hold onto my space gray watch till they had the gold ones in store so that I could just transfer the Apple care to the new watch. I now believe he told me that so I'd go past my return date. I drove home and went online and saw that the watch was indeed available in that particular store, so I ordered it with the gift card. When I got my pick up text and email, I drove back to the exact same store and asked to speak to the manager. I let him know how unhappy I was that I was lied to. He told me that the cooperate office had ordered them to tell everyone that the watches weren't in yet. He said they had to tell me that until they were ready to release them. I knew he was blowing smoke up my ass but I was tired and just wanted my watch so I could go home. He did give me a free sport band of my choice for my trouble. I was refunded the cost of my Apple care because they said that because the watch is so new, their system wouldn't let them add it at that time. They refunded that onto a gift card so I could buy the Apple care later. So that's my gold watch story.

You sound quite an unreasonable person but at least you got a free sport band of your choice. The member of retail staff did not lie to you, you were asking for a product that had been announced a few hours earlier. The member of retail staff wasn't on MacRumours checking the latest reports, he was working, doing his job. Could he and the store manager have been better informed and perhaps checked that the new products had been delivered to the store, yes. But even by your own words the manager is relaying him what the corporate office told him to say. Perhaps i'm wrong but you seem really entitled and complaining about Apple staff being unaware of a new product's availability on day zero seems something unfair to complain about. Yes, it is annoying you were inconvenienced by having to drive back to the Apple store but these are first world problems. Enjoy your free sport band. I wouldn't have given it to you if I was the manager. Yet it is the people who complain loudly that seem to get stuff for free.

I just purchased Apple Watch 2 weeks ago and I love it, but I am thinking about returning it for the new gold one.

Do you think Apple will have an issue if I do this? I am still within my return period.

If you are within 14 days you can return it. Go back to your local store and check.

You must be that store's manager. Didn't know you were a member of this forum. Thanks for the free band though. Geez!

Say you struggled to book a genius appointment within the period in which you changed your mind. Works every time

That's not the issue. The member is still within his return period and he's afraid Apple would get peeved if he returned his Space Gray for the gold. I'm saying you can return it for any reason if you're within your return period.

i guess all the cameras in your possession got angry at your piss poor attitude and that's the reason why you can't upload a photo of the new watch?

Well I went out and exchanged mine for the new Gold Sports model, and love it.

The exchange ALMOST went well.

Since I had Apple Care on the old one they had to sell me a new Apple Care on the new one... only problem is when they tried adding on Apple Care to the new one it said that it was an unknown item.

The Watch guy had to go get the lead and she couldn't add Apple Care to it as well, so instead she gave me a Gift Card for the amount of the Apple Care that I paid for and told me when I leave to order it from 1-800-MY-APPLE.

Got back and called to order it and had issues there too. The issue now was they wouldn't accept the Apple Store Gift Card they had no way of accepting it in their computers. So I had to give them my credit card number... so now I have a $52.11 gift card I can use later.

It was worth it though, this one looks SO much better. :D

If you think this, I'd say you don't understand why people would buy the Edition -- a limited supply of an 18kt solid gold watch with custom designed bands and 18kt solid gold hardware.

Apple is not going to leave money on the table for people who want a nicer-looking gold watch than the Sport, who will otherwise not wear silver jewelry or accessories. Platinum jewelry is also quite popular, even though it looks identical to much less expensive silver jewelry, and in the case of the Watch, stainless. Does that mean Apple will never offer a platinum Edition for those who would prefer the choice of silver over gold? Not likely.

Apple is doing this the right way, slowly rolling out new SKUs in such a way that they can both keep up with demand as well as effectively manage them. Jony Ive has clearly stated that "As soon as something is worn, we have expectations of choice", and like every successful watchmaker, Apple will address that, offering as many choices as the market supports.

I notice that the gold and rose gold Sport models have the pins in yellow gold and rose gold, respectively. However, the same color Sport bands that you purchase separately still have standard silver pins. Is my assumption correct?

Those of you raving about the gold Sport with midnight blue strap, you knew you liked its $15,000 Edition cousin but couldn't afford it.

EDIT: I just took a look at the Edition collection. Apparently they've updated the Edition with midnight blue classic buckle to have rose gold case, unlike yellow gold/midnight blue combo that it used to have. I suppose it's to further differentiate the $399 model from the $15,000 one.

Hey I wanted an Edition from the jump haha. I have no shame in admitting I'd grab one of these to sort of fulfill that want. ;)

Anyone have any pictures of the gold compared to the space grey? Thinking about selling and buying the gold, but hoping it doesn't look too washed out. Back on the 5S I thought the gold was way too champagne-y, but then the 6 seems a bit more yellow which is what I'm after.

I bought the yellow gold 42mm sports this morning to replace my SS model. The yellow gold doesn't look like the edition, but it has it's own unique qualities. The Rose Gold sports looks a lot closer to the Edition Rose gold than the yellow compared.

The sports yellow gold and the default midnight blue sports band looks amazing, but I switched out for a black leather band and it convinced me to buy both right there on the spot.. the yellow gold sports and black leather looks incredible.. I like it way better than my SS BSB.
