Apps Golfshot App Apple Watch try out

I'm sure I'm being blind and/or stupid... but how do I increase GPS to 10 minutes? Haven't found where to do this. Thanks.

From the home screen. Settings, (gps, scoring, caddie), background GPS, and choose 10 min

Doh! I was looking in iphone settings... not the app. Thanks so much. Question though... why would changing to 10 minutes from "always on" be an improvement?

Changing it from "always on" to anything less....would only improve battery life...not performance.

That's what I would think too. So I don't understand how changing it to 10 minutes, as suggested in this thread several times, would improve things... unless folks have their GPS set for even longer times between checks (which, I would think, starts defeating the purpose of GPS). Anyway... I will leave it on "always on". Thanks.

Well the default is less than 10 min. So changing it from the default to 10min could improve the responsiveness of the updated yardages. Ie if the default is say 3min and you changed it to 10 min. If it takes you 8 min to get to your ball...the GPS would still have been active and updating the yardage ..so when you open the app it's instantaneous. Instead of waiting for GPS to turn on and then give you a yardage. Now if it only takes you 3 min to get to your ball between shots...changing it longer than 3 min won't help.

Ah! See I misunderstood what the times meant. I thought it was the time between GPS checks... not the time GPS was actively running. Thanks for that clarification. Still best to leave it set to "always on" as long as I don't have battery issues, right?

Yes....As long as you don't have battery issues...leaving it "always on" will help ensure you don't get any delays in updated yardages.

I used Hole 19 the other day, set up on my phone and then used the watch the whole round. Went to save the round (9 holes) on the phone and the scorecard didn't save right, showed a different course. Going back to GolfShot for good, I think. The response time isn't much different and if Apple is indeed making watch app makers provide native running watch apps, I think response times will only improve. The phone and web based golfshot is much better than hole 19 so that helps make the call easier as well.

I'm disappointed by both Golfshot and Hole19. Both seem to work ok then for no reason fail during a following round. Hole19 wouldn't change distances on my watch - it only reported the distance from tee to green and didn't update - the phone app was ok and updated. Golfshot doesn't seem to comunicate with the watch - constant spinning ball on the watch.

Waiting for updates or another failsafe version to come along - at the mement wouldn't trust either to work, a gps tracker specifically for golf or a laser distance measurer are still the way to go.

That's odd. I haven't had that issue with Golfshot. Have you tried deleting the app on the iPhone and watch and reinstalled both?

Yes tried every trick.
I seem to be getting either a spinning ball when launched from the phone, or three blank dotted lines (where front, middle and back should be). I let it go for ages to see if it works, but nothing. Reinstalled on watch and phone.
Not worth depending on it for golfing.

Strange. I've been using it now since my original post and the only spinning ball I've seen was once when starting up the app. The only new thing I find useful is raising my wrist after I've driven to make sure I get an initial yardage for that particular hole. That seems to prevent me arriving at my second, raising the wrist and the display going off before the yardage changes which always used to happen on one or two holes. Mind you, I'm only using the basic app, not the subscription version. Just as an exercise, have you tried changing the display time on the watch to longer before it sleeps just to see if it is a time issue or a more general one ? It really seems to be working well now, to the extent that as I walk with wrist raised I can see the yard count going down. My biggest problem is I'm sure partners who don't know me still think I'm checking the time an awful lot on the course. I do get some strange looks until I tell them.

I've have(Golfshot and Hole19) since last year- been thinking for a long time Hole19 always performs better for me. Went out again this weekend, and used Golfshot for the front 9, and Hole19 for the back.
Hole19 is sooo much better- Golfshot locked up twice.

OK.. twice now, Golfshot has failed to even start on the watch... as I'm waiting to tee off on first hole. Watch says to please start the app on your iphone. I DID! I stopped and restarted several times... on both iphone and iwatch. Had to dig into my bag for my Garmin G8 hoping it was charged enough to last. This makes the app very unreliable obviously.

Please send your issues to them...the app has been VERY stable until the last two updates. Unless they hear of these issues they won't be addressed.

I have been dealing with Support. So far they've just had me do the usual steps (most I'd already done). Uninstalling and reinstalling, etc.

Have you checked the GPS reception on your phone?
I had issues with the app, and found out the phone actually had issues with GPS reception.
Can't use mine now until I replace the phone in the coming months.
:-/

So the update is... I've not had it lock up since uninstalling and reinstalling. I still have the slow-as-molasses update on yardage in a new position issue. No GPS problems with phone... other apps using GPS work great and accurately.

As I posted before, my Golfshot seems to be working reasonably well. I do, though, occasionally have a lag before the yardage is updated, especially now that I have bought the pro version. It never fails to update but when playing in a medal even a short wait is a problem.

I was wondering if Watch OS3, with instant launch, has anything we can look forward to which would improve the update time.

Good question. Fingers crossed. The delay in a new yardage coming up is SUPER annoying and almost renders it not worth it.

Sadly, my "guess" is that will still be a problem as it has to update from the phone with every change. Maybe they can update the app to load a certain amount of holes and keep updating. Time will tell because the delay can be frustrating.

Just popped in to say I updated to Golfshot 5 and everything has either slowed down or isn't working. Golfshot plus crashes while classic seems to work after a fashion. This might just be something unique to me but I'd maybe hold off a day or so to see if others have the same problems.

I updated to Ver5 as well in hopes that they have solved the Apple Watch lag. (Again it used to be MUCH faster in previous versions). Well....now I can't even get the app to launch on my watch. Maybe it's because I haven't updated my watch or iPhone to the latest iOS yet? Deleting and resinstalling the app which has worked in the past after updates...isn't working this time. Also my PRO subscription was lost when I updated to V5 as well. An email to their support fixed that within the same day. Sent an email about watch app not working....will see what they say. Anyone else have problems with the watch app?

Sorry to hear you're having troubles as well. I don't think it's to do with the latest iOS as I have IOS10 on my phone. If you don't and you're having trouble that rules that out although being the first iteration of a new OS I had half thought that the slowness might be to do with that. Watch OS3 isn't available yet so it's not that. My pro subscription is still working but I've tried everything I can think of and still no joy.

Like you I've emailed support but nothing yet. Will post again when I hear anything.

UPDATE: I maybe wasn't clear before. The new version 5 IS working on my iPhone 5. I've also managed to get it working on my watch using the Classic app and it seems to be fine. The strange thing is both the classic version and Golfshot plus now look the same on the phone. However, Golfshot plus crashes on opening every time on the watch.

UPDATE 2 . Just received email from support. They confirm that there is a bug with Golfshot Plus and their suggested workaround is to install the ordinary Golfshot app and that should work On the watch. ( really just what I've said above). They say a fix is on the way.
