No, I would doubt it's ever offered with all the features of the 4.7 or 5.5 phones. They may continue to offer it as a budget option with minor updates though.

This is why I'm keeping it for nostalgic reasons. Upgrade to ios 8 and voila you have a perfectly good iphone that will be close to par with the 6 series.

I seriously doubt that they will release any more 4 inchers. The development costs of 3 different sized phones would eat in to their profits too much and, with the general tide of opinion moving towards larger devices, the 4 inch screen seems to be most likely to be dropped.

If they planned to continue it, I think they would have released another 4 inch option this time around as well as one larger option.

I was with you until the blackberry comment :)

I think Apple should have made the 6 in 3 sizes. Same size as the 5S, the 4.7 and the 5.5 - not everyone wanted a bigger phone.

That is not true for everybody. They should continue having a 4 inch phone or they will lose a lot of their customers. A lot of business customers will go back to blackberry.

I have been using my 6 alongside my 5S and I am thinking of returning the 6 and sticking with the 5S another year. I don't think its worth the upgrade for me personally, and I do like the design of the 5S better. I am also more comfortable with the smaller size. However, I do admit the new iPhones are well made and a lot of people will finally be happy to have larger screen iPhones. By going with my 5S another year I will be a little disappointed by not being able to use Apple Pay when it comes out but I can live without it.

In my opinion, it would be awesome if next year Apple released a 4", 4.7", and 5.5" iPhone that more or less all have the same internals and features. I doubt it will happen, but it would be nice. The least they could do is release a new 4" model next year that has the internals of the current 6.

Oh, thanks for explaining it to me! I wonder what accounted for the difference in display sharpness then. I compared home screens and Evernote displays and a few other app displays. The 6 was by no means fuzzy. Just a little bit less crisp than my 5s and husband's 5s.

The new phones are indeed very slippery and hard to grip. I know I'll have to use a case as I'm butterfingered when I use the phone as a camera.

It looked less sharp because the apps you were using haven't been updated to the higher resolution, and the iPhone 6 is stretching them to zoom them to fill the larger screen, so they aren't effectively gaining any pixels over the 5S rendering. With content scaled up like that, you're going to lose sharpness. If the home screen looked that way, it probably was set to the zoom mode instead of the standard mode where it adds more real estate instead of zooming in an iPhone 5/5S layout.

i agree with this for instance, i have a group of close 6 friends, out of those 6 one guy says the 6 is to big will keep his 5/5s, the the other 5 say the 6 is perfect but the 6 plus is too big. So they may still have a 4 inch market. Samsung has the mini line for all the s line series.

But Samsung's mini line has last gen or possibly 2 generation behind internals; it doesn't stay updated with the new chips and features they add to the S and Note lines. So it's basically comparable to what Apple has now with the 5S and 5C. It wouldn't surprise me to see apple release a 6C next year with an A8 and a 4" screen along with bumping down the price on the 6/6+ and releasing a 7s and 7s+ with A9 chips.

I've been using my 6+ since Friday and have no idea how I was able to deal with the 4inch screen on the 5 for so long.

I know, right? I just don't get it. People were screaming ":apple: give us bigger screens blah fingerprint sensor isn't spectacular blah" and now people are screaming ":apple: why are the new iPhones big wee the 5s is too big for my pocket"... I love my iPhone 6 Plus ... I don't get a. why people think it's unhandy and b. why there are actually people saying even the small iPhone is too big for them :D ...

Nope. There's no reason to think they will make a 4" phone again.

Actually, they very well may *if* the design continues to do well. If the continued sales of the 5 size do well over the next year or better than previous years' 'last year's model', they may update it.

But of course it all depends on how many people out there really prefer this size over the new size. Those who are displeased are the ones who are the most vocal.

Honestly I feel the same way. I had my six for three days and had to swap it out three times for screen problems. I put it back in the box and I'm back with my 5S. Besides the bigger screen and didn't feel like enough of an upgrade for $750 from the 5S

Lol and then there are those like myself who still use a 4 or 4s

Last new phone I bought was a 4 back in 2010. I want to upgrade but everyone with a 5s feels they need the upgrade/wait in line making it hard for those with jobs to get one that have truly ancient hardware haha

They should continue to offer little phones. Some people just can't handle big phones. So, offer them little phones. Easy.

We'll see. I don't know that anyone knows exactly what's going to happen. I would agree, however, that there are people who would be happy sticking with the 4 inch iPhone.

call it iPhone 7 Nano

This is the thing. Apple can still achieve bigger screen size with a smaller form factor, and that is likely exactly where they will go. They now made the things about as thin as possible given current battery tech. What they need to do next is get rid of the stupid god-awful bezels at the top and bottom and trim those down. It is ridiculous that the 6+ with its 5.5" screen has to be longer than the Note3/Note4 with its 5.7" screen size.

But, Apple has gotta leave something for their next iteration of phone for people to get excited about.

I can't imagine going back. The screen on the 5S just seems too small after spending three days with the 6. The extra screen estate is very nice in the apps that have been updated to take advantage of it. Every day, additional apps are updated to take advantage of the larger screen.

I doubt they'll update the hardware significantly. The 5s is becoming the 5c "low end option" and while it might get a processor speed bump in future models, I don't see much development happening on the 5s. No NFC, etc. But the 5s will run iOS 8 and will probably run the next two major versions of iOS as well.

5S is at least going to iOS 10 for sure, 64 bit SoC gives it future proof and extra longevity

They don't need a new 4" phone. Apple can simply keep making the 5s. Maybe the next one will be the 5ss or 5s2. Point is, they already have a complete lineup.

4" iPhone 5s
4.7" iPhone 6
5.5" iPhone 6+

All. Bases. Covered.

I agree small medium large

I'm calling the announcements next year:

Introducing three revolutionary new products
  1. iPhone 6c (plastic 4" iPhone 6)
  2. iPhone 6s (4.7")
  3. iPhone 6s Plus (5.5")
Unapologetically fragmented!:D :apple:
