I too am thinking of exchanging my 6 for a 5s. I'm going to give it this week and if I still feel clumsy with it, then it's going back. Now note I have by no means small hands, it's just a smidge too big. I can't comfortably reach the top right corner without reachability which is a nice feature, but I would prefer not to use it if I don't have to.

My only gripe about getting a 5s is that it's a year old already and restocking fees along with the two cases and screen protectors I bought for the 6.

All these old people complaining about the 6 being too big is funny.:p

If it's "funny" to you then you are just insecure and need to express your feelings publicly to see if others will make the decision for you. It's someone else's opinion. It isn't a matter of being funny.

Maybe other people feel that there is something more important to them than a big screen. Maybe other people feel that making all the concessions needed to have a big screen just isn't worth it. There seems to be quite a few people just on this forum who feel this way. It isn't one person.

Add another person who has zero desire to get the 6 and hope they update the lineup next year with a 6 mini with new internals.

I love my 5s. I came from android large phones and the 5s is my first apple phone.

I made a sacrifice in size from a large android to small 5s to get a smoother experience and I just loved the way the 5s looks. I think the 6 looks bland like a samsung and the bezels are way too big for the screen size.

I spend most of my time at home, so I have little use for a larger phone. I want a phone that is small and compact.

I really think the 6 is a compromised design due to the large home button/large bezel. The phone is way too big for a 4.7 inch screen. Compare to the newer androids with similar dimensions. They have much larger, nicer screens.

My perfect phone would be 4.3-4.5 inch screen with less bezel and slightly larger dimensions than the 5s. However, I do realize I am probably now in the minority.

I've been using the 6 all weekend but just could not get on with it. I just don't like the feel of it. It's too thin to pick up easily from a table with one hand. It can't be easily used with one hand. I dropped it twice, it's not as easy to grip. It is too large in my jeans pocket.

I've gone back to my 5S and I have to say when apply designed this they really got it right. Perfect size and shape. Feels solid, robust and great in the hand. It looks better IMO.

I swear if the 5 had come after the 6 people would be raving about it.

Is the 5 likely to be updated with the latest hardware?

Nope. No. Negative.

You may be right about the harshness. I guess I just think in the big picture business sense. There is no reason to make small phones now as they are not phones anymore. They are smart devices.

The 3.5" and 4" phones are optimal sizes for one-handed use for the widest range of hand sizes in the world. The 4.7" stretches beyond what is comfortable for some people.

"Smart device" is a meaningless term in this context -- the form should follow the function. Do you really want to work on a spreadsheet with a pocket device? I don't. I'll pull out my iPad or laptop for that. I want something that's unobtrusive and allows me to quickly get things done while on the go.

But, this seems to come down to an argument between people who like smaller cars and those who want big ones. You'll never convince the other side that theirs is better. But we should be allowed to have the choice.

Now you know how it feels for all the people that always wanted a bigger screen to be more productive and use it more as a smart device and enjoy all the awesome benefits of a larger screen. Enjoy your misery while we enjoy our benefits.

You do have a choice. 3 of them in fact.

Hear, hear. ;) Couldn't agree more.

I have a 6 (4.7") now and it is borderline IMO. It did pass my "sit down with it in the front pocket of a Levi's 505" test, but it is less comfortable to carry than the 5S and a little cumbersome to use one-handed. The thinness surprised me, given that the difference to the 5S is less than 1mm, but it partly makes up for the size when it comes to "pocketability". I can live with it, but I'm hoping Apple will release something along the lines of what you said in the next cycle.

I really hope next year has 4/4.7/5.5" models. 4" ( or maybe like 4.3") is perfect for me. I'm using the iPhone 6 because of the other features but if there was an iPhone 6 Mini I would have bought that instead. I thought about going back to the 5 for the same reasons you listed after I used the 6 for a day, but I'd rather just force myself to learn to use the 6 than stick with an old form factor that will probably sadly be a dead end.

I would love if they updated the iPhone 5s with the iPhone 6's camera, faster processors, and the ApplePay feature. I'd even pay $100 extra to get it in the smaller size. Using the phone with one hand is a great feature, and the iPhone 6 is just too big. Maybe when I'm older and can't see small type, I'll go for the bigger one, but right now, I want my iPhone 5s back (but with ApplePay).

Just another 2¢

Yes, the trouble is the size I want doesn't have any of the new features that I'm excited to use.

I'm not gonna lie, I used my 5S last night while I was charging my 6+ and while it was a bit jarring returning to such a smaller screen, the 5S just had a certain charm to it and I really enjoyed it still. I'm thinking of not even selling it and just keeping it around.

My wife is tiny so her jeans are small, and making the pockets small. Her iPhone 6 still fits....

You post was was ok until I read that. If it was a 6 plus, maybe.

My jeans are small. Some pairs the iPhone 6 fits in fine. Skinny jeans, though? There's like 3cm of it showing out of the front pockets. The iPhone 5 fits better.

4" screens are over. You'll never be able to buy a flagship phone of that size again. Get Over it.

I'm still dreaming of a 3.2" iPhone. I know it'll never happen but my HTC Aria was my favorite phone design.

I still have that thing in a drawer somewhere with CM on it. Not Verizon compatible though.

The public has spoken and spoken loudly. They want bigger phones. >*IF*< Apple continues to make 4" phones, it'll be no different than this year. A generation or 2 behind.

Not wishing anyone to be unhappy, but that's the current market for flagship smartphones.

Funny... it almost seems like there are some people here that really just want a 3.5" phone with 512MB of RAM... Hmmm, should it only will run Web Apps as well? :D

I have small hands. The phone is a tiny bit big for me but I prefer the size over the 5. I think I just need to use it for a little bit longer.

You win some, you lose some. If they released another 4-inch phone instead of a 4.7" and 5.5", they would've lost customers who wanted a larger screen. Since they did release larger screened phone, they'll lose some that wanted a 4" screen. You can't please everyone all of the time, so keeping the 5s and 5c around is a good compromise.
Ive had the 3g, 4, and 5 and I wouldve switched to a Moto x or a M8 if they announced a 4" phone.

Agree they had to respond to market demand and I bet the numbers they lose because of the larger screen is more than offset by people returning to Apple because they now have larger screens. I would have jumped ship myself this time if they had kept the same screen size again.

By next year, internals will be smaller to adapt the 5 series bodies to 6 series hardware. Battery will be the only thing that disappoints unless they get a radical power miser of a processor.

I sure hope so :D

I don't even care about having 6+ level of battery life (not that it wouldn't be nice), but simply slap some up to date internals in the 5s and call it a day Apple!

Yeah, I'm sticking with my 5s for now. It has a certain charm that I really like. I'll reevaluate with the 6s after Apple works out the bugs and updates the hardware.

Why yes I do. Not for working on a multi-sheet complex workbooks, but making on-the-go changes to spreadsheets? Yep I do, which is why the plus is working really well for my needs.

I also appreciate the 5s and its ease of use. Too much choice! ;) but that's a good thing.

All Apple has to do is to continue offering an updated 4" screen-based iPhone. Then everyone will be happy.
