Despite 2.1 minutes of excitement the nexus wasn't at all spectacular in both specs and sales. It's only been 6 months and the idea of buying a Nexus today would literally be asinine.

Actually, the Galaxy Nexus is still an amazing phone. Its one of the top 3 android phones available (HTC One X, Galaxy S III), and some people actually prefer the Nexus since it runs stock Android.

Not to mention that Google just dropped the price on the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus to $349 plus shipping. Unlocked.

That is an insane deal given that some carriers are charging up to $279 (plus junk fees and 2-yr contract) for a Galaxy S III.

The only problem with the Galaxy Nexus was its *horrible* roll-out. Google announced the phone in mid October and then it wasn't available in the USA until mid December! If that weren't bad enough, Verizon had exclusivity on it until freaking APRIL of the following year! SIX MONTHS after it was announced.

$350 is decent for a new, modern, unlocked phone, especially compared to what carriers are charging.

That's because it is nothing like Apple TV. It has Bluetooth and NFC. And it works as 25-watt amplifier.

Unnecessary features I say. It's better they got off without them. NFC could be had by tablet/phone that comes with it as stream source.

Amplifier? If you buy this thing, and you're casual consumer/family, means you already had TV with built in speaker obviously. Or if you're a serious audio buff, you don't want $300 Google Triad plugged into tiny built-in 25W stereo amp, you would buy surround receiver + good set of speakers such Mordaunt Short or B&W.

Too complicated for what it is, and too mediocre in all aspect too. Yet it add $199 to the cost compared to Apple TV.
It tries too hard to impress with all packed features. That's not good.

I'm not sure I understand the target market for the Nexus Q. At $299 and $399 for speakers, it's dead in the water.

I was listening to a recording of Howard Stern and the very second I read your comment, he said the exact same thing (dead in the water). Right to the second.

What are the odds of that?

It's a great deal but I don't get why it has only a 5MP camera and the same GPU as the nexus s..

Why anyone would buy a non-Nexus phone if they are in the market for Android is beyond me. I love Apple and all, but my GSM GNEX is simply incredible.

May pick up a Nexus 7 just for fun. ICS/JB is far superior to iOS, in my opinion. Not trolling, just speaking from experience.

Agree. I'm a Verizion Nexus owner and the ROM's that are still coming out for it are amazing. Till this day I still enjoy using it. The only reason I want to upgrade to the Samsung S3 is because I got one last upgrade before Verizon screws me out of unlimited data tomorrow. But after seeing the Nexus during the i/o conference it's really making me think twice. But as for the Tablet it's right up my alley. Imagine what can be done with this tablet in the hands of real developers. These Apple fanbois have no clue because Apple has locked them down so tight they can't see beyond the looks of a device.

Google Now sounds a bit creepy. Privacy advocates will have a field day with it. That said, I suspect others will implement similar features.

Part of Google Now are obviously a direct reaction to Siri, though. It will be interesting to see how the improved Siri stacks up against it.

Google Now sounds like the fruits of some of the smartphone research that was being done about a half decade ago.

Back then, there was a fascinating project where a person's phone learned its owner's habits over time:

For example, when it came near lunch time, the phone would automatically look up the restaurants that the owner frequented the most on that weekday, check them for seating availability, and present the options. No manual search necessary.

When the owner had an appointment set to meet a friend, the phone would alert them when it was time to leave, taking traffic etc into consideration.

Events, sales, even news items would be presented when they made the most sense.

Basically, anything you can think of that a sharp human assistant might do, the phone did. I think Google is headed directly in that direction, and that all smartphones will soon be expected to be like that.

Buy American means the Nexus tab would cost $1200 due to the unions that have destroyed manufacturing in this country due to their greed.

Or is it the American consumer, whose greed and desire to have everything for "next to nothing", that has destroyed manufacturing in this country and driven quality labor jobs to non-existence.

The American cost of living is FAR greater than that in China (or Korea, etc), but our desire to have everything at a price that can only be met by outsourcing jobs to overseas has crushed our middleclass. Saying the US laboror, in a union, is greedy because he/she wants to earn enough to feed and shelter his/her family at a reasonable standard in the US is ill-informed. But I am guessing you are not in a union, so can only regurgitate political non-sense.

Read post #34.

yeah and? who the hell needs an amplifier in this thing? tvs have speakers built in or are connected to high powered surround sound. NFC? pointless instead of the song/video being sent directly from the phone to the "Q" it just sends data and the "Q" downloads it from the internet......thats a waste of internet bandwidth when you could get an apple tv for 1/3 of the price and send the media directly to your router > apple tv. no internet required. this thing will tank mark my words. Android is so popular because its on everything other then iphones. (windows phone doesnt sell enough to count). The average person buys a cheapo android phone that wont be compatible with this thing not that they would spend $300 on it anyway.

This is quite impressive. 7 inch 720p IPS display, quad-core Tegra 3, 1GB RAM, 340g, all for $199. I'd actually consider getting one of these but I already have an iPad 3.

Only thing I really hate about Nexus 7 is that it's not optimized for a tablet and it's running software as if it was a phone. I don't think this will kill Kindle Fire completely, Amazon still has time to introduce their own answer to this.

umm... There is no separate phone or tablet OS anymore. Android 4.0 unified both and the device determines the how the OS and app layout will be presented.

Neat trick - you can turn a galaxy nexus into a mini tablet simply by changing the dpi. Status bar moves from top to bottom and proper Android 4+ apps will run in tablet mode (eg: gmail will have two panes).

Where exactly in my post did I say anything bad about Apple?

I use Apple products daily.

Also, its 'Brit'.

Your post was just unbelievably inaccurate any not really even well thought out. It'd be like me saying "What is it with you yanks and your hatred of samsung? Is it because its not designed in America?" - see - a pathetic comment

OK. Just keep the people safe during the Olympics. That's all I ask.

No look at ICS on an Android tablet vs on a phone, theyre don't work quite the same. Notifications are in the bottom right corner of the tablet for instance. The app drawer launcher is in the top right corner.

I don't really know why they changed more to a phone interface for the Nexus 7.

I'm in the same boat. I think the iPad is great, but if I didn't already have one and was still shopping around, I'd probably plunk my money down on it and become a fandroid instead of an iTard.

I'm thinking it's because most Android tablets are in landscape orientation by default. This one seems to be built around using it in portrait, like the iPad.

They won't do that because then shoppers will see the iPad display and realize then can spend a couple hundred bucks more and get a real tablet.

One of the most ignorant comments i've read on this site...

Please do define your use of the phrase "real tablet", I'm sure we'd all like to hear it.

1. Not enough local storage. Even if expandable you need more so you don't need to expand. Don't always expect online/cloud to be available.

2. Battery Life?

9 hours video. Getting expandable memory is no big deal.
I have a Galaxy Note with 16gb built-in and a 32gb microsd card.
I also have iphone 3g, iphone4, ipad1 and ipad3 + mac air book
in case you're thinking I'm an Android fanboy.
Quad core with 12 gpus. 3/4 pound. Fantastic price.
And I have an ipad3.

Comparing HP to space is wrong FYI. Processor to HP would be a better comparison. By that comparison, most sports cars have 2 seats (less space) and more HP (better processor.)

How about a corvette with 1000 horse power and 3 wheels? :)

You know what Im saying though the processor doesnt mean sh#t when there isnt enough capacity to work with.

I know its intentional to try to promote their cloud service but I think it is bull, Ive said it before cloud is a horrible storage solution:
1) company controls access to your own files
2) security, who knows how secure they are you hear about breaches all the time, imagine making an essential document for work only to find out the server got hacked and everything got deleted, so you're fired or in trouble at work from not completing an assignment, extreme example but possible.
3) company policies are extreme, in fact there was an article about one of the services claiming they own rights to your files when you store it on their server.
4) privacy, well that is null with google
5) reliability, servers go down what if you wanted a file right that minute but the company is doing maintenance?
6) internet connectivity is still far slower than local media
7) internet connectivity isnt always available everywhere
8) monthly fees that can change at any time

What does this have to do with this tablet? Its quite clear to me google is pushing cloud as a primary storage device with a lousy 8gb model.

Apple seems to be on a similar strategy with lack of any capacity updates in the last 3 years with the iOS devices.

It's funny how easy it is to spot true tech enthusiasts, who like apple, and just straight fan boys. The tech enthusiasts, declare that they prefer apple, but comment on how advanced this tablet is, where as the apple fan boys just state that ipad is untouchable.

Who was that guy who used to be on Apple's board?
Guess the notepad got through security.

Exactly! This is NOT competition. Both Google and Facebook are now heavyweights enough to take steps (hardware introduction) to try to become a viable imitator. Competition at its best requires innovation. Google will to continue to flounder with Android. They compltetly lost the enterprise and education markets. They seem to be marketing to testosterone driven boys. This is their big hope?
