You forgot just one update ... this year iP4S 64GB!

LMAO ... myself as well.

I AM impressed with the Google Glass concept though.

64gb capacity was done in 2009 with the ipod touch, they haven't updated beyond 64 gb since.

it's all about $$$

Makes me wonder if Google is taking a loss on this product or breaking even. If they are making profit still, good for them. I just wonder how much profit.

Google makes $$ on Ads. They must have eyeballs. They cannot let Amazon or Apple take those eyeballs away into another ecosystem. Google will become extinct if that happens. Google is smart and developed mobile OS and gave it away for free in order to retain those eyeballs. Furthermore, when tablet become in vogue, Google immediately developed OS for tablets to prevent eyeballs from escaping.

Apple doesn't make $$ on eyeballs. It makes money on software, hardware and it's ecosystem. It doesn't care about how many eyeballs like Google. Apple care about the eyeballs that are willing to pay top $$ for it's products. Apple cherry picks the top paying consumers. It really don't care about those who wants cheap Windows machine. It wants people who are willing to pay for a machine that just works.

People need to remember how each company make money and will then understand why they do what they do.

No look at ICS on an Android tablet vs on a phone, theyre don't work quite the same. Notifications are in the bottom right corner of the tablet for instance. The app drawer launcher is in the top right corner.

I don't really know why they changed more to a phone interface for the Nexus 7.

Well looking at the video, 4.1 introduces a new 7" class interface. Like the other poster said, the reason for this is because 7" devices are used in more of a portrait mode.

That has never stopped Apple selling tons of devices tough. It's a great way to push people to upgrading and to use your cloud services though...

WOW!!!! I watched the video and got it!! If they can pull it off it will be amazing, but I think it's going to be a few years away yet to reach the full potential, say 3 or 4. But it's a very interesting idea.

That would make sense except if there is no wifi you can't access your cloud storage. Also apple offers up to 64GB. You're not going to fit much of anything on 16GB and even less on 8GB

9 hours video. Getting expandable memory is no big deal.
I have a Galaxy Note with 16gb built-in and a 32gb microsd card.
I also have iphone 3g, iphone4, ipad1 and ipad3 + mac air book
in case you're thinking I'm an Android fanboy.
Quad core with 12 gpus. 3/4 pound. Fantastic price.
And I have an ipad3.

Woops! No expandable memory. Need the 16gb version then. Still a great deal.

As I mentioned its new for iPhone 4S. I did forget about iPod Touch ... at 128GB+ its going to get super expensive ... maybe in a year pricing will drop for massive orders, not to mention limited company's that can achieve & sustain such a massive order that Apple demands!

They're selling it in countries where Kindle Fire is not available. And at 216ppi, it almost matches iPad's pixel density.

I can see a lot of people foregoing iPad to get this for a fraction of the price.

PPI on its own doesn't mean much. You need to factor in viewing distance in relation to screen size. Notice the ipad is 10" and has 264. iPhone is 4" at 326. So quick estimate will tell you a 7" would need ~295 ppi to have a screen comparable with the Apple stuff. Heck even the RMBP has 220 ppi on a 15.4" screen.

But even if the screen isn't Apple level quality, a full 720p screen on a 7" device with 216ppi isn't too shabby.

Another me-too tablet. At least the Surface tries to be original.

I'm so over apple fan boys.. What do you want a tablet to look like? I guess when Apple release their "Apple TV" you'll be able to tell us how revolutionary the design is and how it hasn't slavishly copied the competition.

*has similar form factor to an Apple product*

Those unoriginal thieves!

*Nexus Q comes along looking much different and made in America*

Ewww, expensive piece of crap with no sense of aesthetics!

Your point?

And Apple charge for it too!

Lets get real, this Nexus is cheap, however, if Google play Apple's game, 48G of flash memory will cost US$200 - which is expensive, particularly when you can get a USB stick for less than US$100 with 128G on it - actually, Google are playing Apple's game in trying to move everyone to centralised storage - a very 70's concept and one not keeping with the Internet.

Like many others, I'd have purchased the Nexus if it has a sd-card slot, without it, its just a toy, but a nice toy at that.

----------

They won't do that because then shoppers will see the iPad display and realize then can spend a couple hundred bucks more and get a real tablet.

----------

Buy American means the Nexus tab would cost $1200 due to the unions that have destroyed manufacturing in this country due to their greed.

Absolute drivel and you should be ashamed of yourself, perhaps if you had any idea about the manufacturing process and P&L you'd understand that the manual work part of the assembly process does not constitute more than 10% of the overall cost - I could say more, but personally you are not worth the effort.

Do remember, once all of those not in the 1% earn as much as their Chinese peers, i.e., peanuts, Apple won't have a mass market in the US - still, I suppose you'd support slavery - which basically you do by purchasing Apple products - MADE IN CHINA BY SLAVE LABOUR!!!!!!!!

I cant wait for mine, ipad is in serious trouble with the Kindle Fire, Surface and Nexus 7 set to conquer the tablet worlds. Well done Google and Microsoft for showing how tablets should be done.

ipad is in serious trouble with the Kindle Fire

I think the sales that go to the Fire is not a loss to the iPad, or very minimal. People buy the Fire because they don't want a 10" tab - it's too big for them. There is simply not a competing product from Apple.

Hence the Nexus will be bad news for the Fire, but not for the iPad.

What will Google do next?

Remember when it used to be "Redmond, start your photocopiers…"

Seems it's "Google, start your photocopiers!"

Seriously? Somebody's copying TV? This is an Onion story, right?

Not an ounce of originality. They're a data gathering/advertising company. They're just trying to find different front-ends, based on Apple's successes.

At some point, Schmitd's board level knowledge of Apple's strategy must run out. Then what will Google do? High-res notebooks?

Sigh!

Google wont advertise this Nexus Q and it will die a slow death. They are surprisingly useless at advertising.

There were computers before the Mac.
There were tablets before the iPad.
There were streaming devices before Apple TV
There were smartphones before the iPhone.

My old HP iPaq organizer has a screen with icons.

Really, if you look at it closely there is not much Apple really invented. They looked at it and tried to make it better.

Someone want to explain to me what I can do with the Nexus Q that I can't do with Apple TV & Airport Express?

$299 seems way overpriced.

Nexus 7 has just killed the Amazon Fire though, think Google have done well there.

I neither care about the Nexus Q nor do I care about AppleTV. I use Xbmc on a Zotac Zbox and since that's a real computer, it works better for me than any of those toy gadgets ever could.

That being said, the Nexus Q looks way cooler than the AppleTV and if I had to choose between the two, I'd definitely go for the Google gadget. I loathe Apple's castrated iOS platform with a passion, so even if the Nexus Q looked like crap, the decision would be a no-brainer for me.

Now the Nexus 7... Looks like a nice little tablet, and it looks exactly like what it is: Google's answer to the Kindle Fire. But I doubt that it will kill the Fire or even become a serious threat to the Fire. Amazon has the superior content ecosystem, and since tablets - including the iPad - are not useful for anything except for MAYBE consuming content, the Fire remains the more attractive device. Unless, of course, you install all the necessary Amazon software on the Nexus 7... Or vice versa.

You see, that's the beauty of Android: It is by its very definition NOT a castrated and restricted platform...

But it's interesting that nobody even mentions the coolest presentation from Google's Keynote: Google glass. Now THAT is something that NOBODY else has in this form. When those things hit the stores, you will look like a relict from the past when you use a smartphone or a tablet.

I enjoyed the presentation - although at times it did feel a bit disorganized and chaotic compared to the professionalism of apple events. Perhaps that's indicative of the difference between the cultures of Apple and Google?

I, for one, am very grateful for both these companies doing what they do and the way they do it. We're in a golden age of technology, perhaps we would do well to remember just how amazing all these devices are! That extends to Microsoft and Amazon as well (the big four of the next decade?)

I'm somewhat invested in the apple ecosystem but am always keen to step outside to see what there is (currently have a lumia 800 phone, for example). I am increasingly aware how difficult it is to move ecosystems - both in time and money. Straddling multiple ecosystems can also be challenging. My lumia has been frustrating on several levels, especially that it doesn't play nicely with the rest of my setup.

I'm intrigued by the Nexus Q. As a Sonos user I have no qualms about paying for superior experience (for comparison, the Sonos connect amp is $499). However, it's lack of integration with my existing products and services means it's not for me at the moment.

Project glass is very exciting and it's cool to see google willing to put it out there and develop some cutting edge technology in public.

On a final note, I'd happily pay for something that filters out blind fanboyism on gadget sites. There's some smart people with fascinating opinions on these sites, sadly they're often drowned out by those who have little to add to the conversation.

You are absolutely correct. But Apple is a marketing company with an attached hard- and software DESIGN department. And if there is one thing Apple really is good at, then it's marketing.
