My main gripe is amount of internal storage and no micro sd.

That has never stopped Apple selling tons of devices tough. It's a great way to push people to upgrading and to use your cloud services though...

Glass is undescribably awesome. Seriously, it really is a whole new monster. Imagine a HUD while you walk around, with a camera built in so you can look at something and it takes a photo.

Its clearly still under heavy development, but its looking awesome.

Take a look at this as it gives a small insight: http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/27/sergey-brin-demos-project-glass-on-stage-at-google-i-o/

Here's the concept video from a while back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9c6W4CCU9M4

WOW!!!! I watched the video and got it!! If they can pull it off it will be amazing, but I think it's going to be a few years away yet to reach the full potential, say 3 or 4. But it's a very interesting idea.

looks like an overgrown iPod Touch

how is this not copyright infringement just like Samsung?

googblows

copyright infringement can we stop that childish thinking.

Copyright should be short and quickly forgotten to use copyright to slow advancement and ideas is stupid at every turn. :(

I love how all the haters say this is going after the iPad. Nowhere does Google say that. They are going after the Kindle Fire - and with these spec's (and the ability to read Nook books and Kindle books) will kill it. It has twice the power and up to twice the storage of the Kindle Fire for same price range.

Thats why Apple will be putting out its 7" iPad in fall - to go after the Kindle Fire that has been killing it in the "reader" market. Google and Apple just want a piece of that pie as it is fastest growing market.

This thing will sell big time.

It seems you haven't read the thread.

Also, who cares.

Lots of people care. We want stuff manufactured in the states instead of Asia. If you really cared about human rights you'd want work conditions in China to improve, or speak with your wallet by buying American manufactured stuff.

no 7 from apple you can forget that happening.

I disagree .. I think the Nexus 7 is targeting a different class of consumers than those who buy iPads. This is a 7 inch device with no rear facing camera, with a choice of 8 or 16 GB of storage only, I think this device is competing with the Kindle Fire.

There are many people who only use tablets to check email, read a book or casually surf the web from their sofas, a device at this price point will appeal to them. People with heavy duty requirements from their tablets, those who buy a lot of apps etc will continue to buy iPad.

Bingo..Had the iPad and iPad 2, and now I primarily use my iMac 27 and Macbook Pro, so the 7" Nexus tablet for casual use is exactly what I was looking for.

I don't remember taking any worthwhile photos with my Ipad2, and I never got about 4 or 5 gb in storage, so the 8gb unit is what I ordered. Never wanted a Kindle Fire though. ALmost bought a playbook. Yes I like gadgets...and at $199 it aint like its a lot of money spent. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Whether you're an Android fan or an Apple fan, it's always good to have competition! :)

I am quite sure this an answer to the Nook Color and Kindle Fire market and not the bigger tablets.

I am not sure of the wisdom of trying to compete with other Android devices but whatever (same with Microsoft).

Meh, to the Quad core since Android seems to need processing power more so than IOS and WP so it's not worth getting back on the spec treadmill.

Why anyone would buy a non-Nexus phone if they are in the market for Android is beyond me. I love Apple and all, but my GSM GNEX is simply incredible.

May pick up a Nexus 7 just for fun. ICS/JB is far superior to iOS, in my opinion. Not trolling, just speaking from experience.

It needs twice the power because that is what a full ICS load needs. Nook and Fire are slimmed down versions of Android so quad will be overkill. I would guess google would be selling this for a loss but I don't know.

What? Who in the world would want ANYTHING made in the US? Personally, I'd rather have something that.. you know, WORKS.

16 gb? Whoopty freakin do!

Excuse me while I get a corvette with 150 hp.

Dont care if it has a tegra 5 processor, with that space it is a joke. I use 9 GB on my ipad 3 just on apps and Ive only had it for a month, with video I easily surpass 16 gb.

Tried of these companies trying to force cloud storage as a solution.

Comparing HP to space is wrong FYI. Processor to HP would be a better comparison. By that comparison, most sports cars have 2 seats (less space) and more HP (better processor.)

first problem ... "US only" it seems

plus only at their online store? google needs to extend its hardware availability to something like a "google play" area at best buy etc like apple does to appeal to more people. having all google hardware (tablet, smartphones) along with 3rd party tools in one spot simply looks cooler and attracts more people

They won't do that because then shoppers will see the iPad display and realize then can spend a couple hundred bucks more and get a real tablet.

Buy American means the Nexus tab would cost $1200 due to the unions that have destroyed manufacturing in this country due to their greed.

Yes, you're talking about the iPad 2 which is about 2 years old now. How does it compare to the iPad 3 ? One thing I will say is that Apple should definitely come out with a 7" iPad. One size doesn't fit all.

2 years old but still being sold at retailers (in Brazil at least) and costs more than an entry level Galaxy Tab. So the Google tablet will cost a lot less but has better specs.

People should be talking about Android 4.1.

Offline voice typing and Google Now are great new features. It seems Google Now and the new Google Search can achieve much more than Siri.
