I might be liberal but I am not Robin Hood. I am a consumer and as such I do not care for Google or Apple profits. I am pretty sure republican consumer think the same way Although, looking at the health care reform, minimum wage and labor union battles, I am not sure most of them (who are poor) really understand how things work.

Don't get me wrong here. Not getting political. I happen to own and run 2 business and can say that you are in business to make money not charity. Sometimes on the big stage though, there are business plays that aren't meant to play in the game or open a new can, but simply to disrupt, annoy, or present something else. This tablet is simply that. Just like the nexus phone. They need a theater for jellybean, and to drop a biatch slap on Amazon. No idea of the latter will play or not. By contrast apple has a real and genuine business in the iPad. Amazon sells at loss or break even but it's in order to sell backend services. Google is simply saying me too, F you Amazon, and look at JB.

As a consumer there is nothing to get behind here. When I buy an iPad, I can feel comfortable that I'm investing in a solid product that has a future. This google tab? Who knows. Google has used many different vendors. You never know what you're gonna get from one year to the next. There is no design philosophy. It's just, this is our latest piece of plastic running our latest OS that most ppl can't see for 12 months.

Like my Sonos better than the Nexus Q

Hmmm...I was interested to see what Google would come up with, but it's not as slick as the Sonos.

The Sonos is great because they have speakers built in already, and you can network them to play music on as many Sonos speakers as you want.

Of course, Sonos is audio only. For AirPlay from my iPad or iPhone I have my Apple TV though :)

Unlike the HP/Palm TouchPad, the N7 has the Kindle and Nook apps available for it at launch. If nothing else it should be useful as an e-reader in some ways superior to either the competing Amazon or B&N devices.

I must say I really don't understand the NQ yet. Didn't Google already somewhat go down this path with the original Google TV devices (e.g. the Logitech Revue) which launched at $299 and quickly dropped to $99. At that price level I think I'd prefer to pick up an Xbox 360.

Interesting video on The Verge where they demo some of the new features of Android 4.1. Looks impressive.

I can't stand those "olol x copied Apple" people, but really. Looking at the Nexus from that angle, it looks literally like a small iPad. I mean like. Dead. Freaking. On.

Gotta say though, I hope for Apple's sake that iOS6 ends up blowing everyone away with some heretofore unmentioned features they neglected to cover at this most recent keynote. The more and more I see of Android, the more and more I'm impressed. It's looking pretty swank these days.

I think the Nexus 7 is a really good move from Google. They've made a nice, affordable tablet aimed at the non-techy consumer, and they've priced it in a way very few could match. They aren't aiming for the iPad... their 3rd party OEM partners can do that... they are aiming at the Kindle Fire.

This is essentially an "Up your game, Amazon."

They're selling it in countries where Kindle Fire is not available. And at 216ppi, it almost matches iPad's pixel density.

I can see a lot of people foregoing iPad to get this for a fraction of the price.

I'm running iOS 6 beta 2 now. I can only say that's it's very awesome. In the face it looks the same, but there are over 200 new features... Once you adjust to them being there it's pure bliss. A lot of small things that really add up to something cool.

Looks like a killer 7 inch device. Wonder on the build quality in the back. It's obviously plastic with a rubber finish but how sturdy is it?

16 gb? Whoopty freakin do!

Excuse me while I get a corvette with 150 hp.

Dont care if it has a tegra 5 processor, with that space it is a joke. I use 9 GB on my ipad 3 just on apps and Ive only had it for a month, with video I easily surpass 16 gb.

Tried of these companies trying to force cloud storage as a solution.

Isn't the whole non-iPad "pad" business really a "wifi only it's all you need", business?

With WiFi tethering available on many phones, it may really be all you need. For me though, owning both a WiFi iPad 1 and an LTE iPad 3 I find LTE to be one of the iPad 3's killer features.

No. Apple is a software company. Their profits may come with selling hardware. But they are mostly software company. Because of software their hardware sells so well.

iPad is iOS in a beautiful design. Same with iPhone.

I don't see Apple as a software or hardware company. Microsoft is a software company. Asus is a hardware company. Apple is a company that makes amazing products. It's the total user experience that matters. Most non techies that have an iPhone probably don't even know what iOS is. They just know the device is elegant, simple and easy to use; it just works.

I love my gf's Kindle Fire size, I ended up using it more then my iPad2 I sold b/c you can comfortably hold it two handed and type and browse like it's a bigger phone, can't do that with the iPad or other 10" range tablets as it feels clumsy/awkward to do so. I just rarely used my iPad2 b/c even when I kicked back on the couch or outback or flight, always grabbed my 13" Pro instead.

Been waiting for a nice 7" tablet and it's priced well, I'd love for Apple to make a 7" iPad but doubt they will. I'll pry wait and see though as the 7" range is picking up steam and I'm sure others will be bringing out nice ones in that range as well. Only thing I didn't see that I wish it had was a micro sd slot.

These 7" tablets aren't meant to compete against the larger tablets like the iPad, Transformer, Galaxy etc.

Do you have little girly hands?

Exactly my position. I have 32gb iPad (since the 1). And I have to pay attention to space. 8gb is worthless. I hate to say it but for me in even my average use, 16 is too

Amazon better release a new kindle fire if they expect to compete the one thing it had going for it was the price now you can get a full fledged tablet for around the same price.

Remember at I/O a few years ago when the big speech was about how Google was stepping in because they didn't think one company should control the mobile marketplace...

Did you not agree with them then, or do you just not care now that it's a company that harvests your data for marketing purposes?

I'm delighted by the Surface, THAT looks interesting. This stuff... just more of the same. I preordered a Nexus 7. I hope I am wrong about it, but I'm guessing it ends up keeping the Kindle Fire company on my shelf.

I will never understand (it honestly is just beyond me), how someone can sit there and use an Android device (of which I have tried many) and not feel like it is a poor copy of an iPhone. It feels "sloppy." I understand that's not a quantifiable thing, but it leads to a product that I do not find enjoyable to use. The iPhone and Windows Phone (7+) interfaces are created like someone cared about them - that's about the only way I can articulate it.

I can understand what you mean when you say it feels "sloppy" but after owning my galaxy s2 for a while I think I can explain. If you picked up my S2 you would find it a confusing mess that looks like nothing else. That's because all the icons are my own that I designed, I have tweaked the interface to exactly how I prefer it. Everything about my phone reflects how I work. I think I would struggle to go to an iphone now (even though I think they are aesthetically nicer). If you get a chance pick up a Android phone using Nova launcher. If feels beautiful to use.

I do own an Ipad and I can still see the appeal of picking it up and everything being simple. I just find the look and feel a bit stale, and its not as efficient. That being said I can't understand the appeal of Android tablets (although I have yet to try ICS on a tablet).

I'm not sure I understand the target market for the Nexus Q. At $299 and $399 for speakers, it's dead in the water. It's also weird it's not running Google TV.

The other stuff looks good though.

What the heck, I ordered an 8gb model today. All I use a tablet for is browsing, email, and streaming video, so the 8gb unit will be fine. Had a 16gb iPad 2 and I think I got up to 4 or 5gb of space with all my music on it. I use dropbox and cloud storage, so other than filling the unit up with downloaded videos, I can't imaging what I would fill it with.

At $199 plus tax and shipping, it aint that big of a gamble. If it sucks, it'll go back.

If Ipd came in a 7" model, I would already own it. I'm sure more than a few feel that way. If sales of the 7" tablets take off, maybe Apple will make one.
