Seems like they have closed off the invited again. This is certainly generating a lot of Buzz on the internet. A new social space rolls into town riding a Wave of anticipation. Reminds me so much of when Gmail first launched. I think thats what they were going for ;)

...Umm... Nexus S or Google Chrome maybe?

I think he was being sarcastic. :D

Worked for me. The first time I clicked on the link, I got a nicely formatted 404 error, but it worked after. Thank you very much for the invite. I will share the love once I have inviting privileges (which I don't at the moment).

Once I do, I'll post again.

Cheers,

paul

this could really take of depending how they implement it.

considering google have a **** ton of free servies, if they impliment it into android devices, youtube, google docs, google talk, google mail etc it could make life easy in many ways for myself.

for instance i good idea would be to have a google plus sign besides a web link, allowing you to instantly share that web link to different people.

easy youtube video linking plus youtube search integrated into the social networking site, if you miss a google voice call, maybe it sends a message to google plus account allowing you to see who has tried to call etc they could create of a load of idea's and ways to make it work considering how many services google provides.

but for the features it has RIGHT now, im liking it, especially the circle thing. i mean everyone basically has different circle of friends.

being able to organize these friends into different types would be cool, for instance i have friends who go to football (soccer) matches with me, go the pub to watch matchs and basically talk nothing but football, instead of having a topic about football to share with everyone, i can just send that selected group the messages.

After reading more about it, I'm curious. The test is whether enough people adopt it fast enough.

I really think this is one case where the invite-only introduction is a very poor choice. Google already knows more or less what to expect in the first weeks following a launch (any kind of launch), and they undoubtedly have enough server power to handle it. Invite-only is pretty dumb I think, for such a big company.

They're getting a lot of buzz right now; open the floodgates and let it boom. Reigning it in is letting the buzz wear off. :/

They did the same with Gmail though didn't they?
I think it generates a desire to be "in"
Who knows
FB is pretty well entrenched, but I do get sick of all of the game stuff and ads

MySpace was well entrenched, and the main reason why Facebook won in the end was because of the clean interface. Now that Facebook is becoming cluttered up slowly and surely, Google is bound to take over with a clean interface once again.

Think about why we choose to use Apple products over others, etc.

what I think is something to show about how far Myspace fell was a few years ago it was bought for over 400 mil. It was recently sold for less than 40 mil.

Indeed and bought by Mr Timberlake and chums. I never really liked Myspace. It was such a resource hog and full of graphic heavy, animated crap all over!

Talking about Facebook though, Zuckerberg says they will be launching something awesome next week. The purchase of Hulu? Hope not….

EDIT: It appears the killer feature will be Skype integration with video chat.

I signed up for it today after a handful of my friends joined, and a couple of them invited me. Some of them already love it, and predict it'll mark the end of facebook, but I think it'll really depend on how many people decide to switch over. Moreover, with all the information already on facebook, and post history and so on, I imagine many might not bother to make the move.

I'm still on the fence, but it feels pretty intuitive. An added bonus is that the circles concept seems to bypass the "I have more friends than you do" debate which in my opinion, got pretty ridiculous. To whoever above suggested that G+ might become somewhere in between Facebook and Twitter, I agree, and sort of hope that ends up happening.

I believe Google is looking at buying Hulu. My guess is Google wants it because Hulu already has agreements with the TV companies so they will use it to help get Google TV completely off the ground.

Just wanted to confirm, you were able to receive an invite and sign up for Google+ today?

I had a few friends send me an invite (both directly and through the "loophole") but have yet to receive any email. If you were able to get in today I guess I'll just have to continue to exercise some patience. Sounds like an interesting service, looking forward to trying it out for myself.

Yeah I would like to get in but it sounds like Google plus is going to grow at a craw because of this invite crap.

The invites will go away and you'll be able to sign up anytime when the service is out of Beta. Just like Gmail. Google is wanting to test their infrastructure and software right now with a limited number of users. Opening the flood gates would probably make the service unusable and leave a sour taste in everyone's mouths.

If I remember right Gmail took well over a year to get out of invite.

well it looks like the invites are finished and the loophole is gone , it says if u were invited the y have no more room and we should come back soon....yea ok

It looks a lot nicer than facebook.

If they can do more with the circles - for example if I have a Seattle circle and a Friends circle, it would be AWESOME to be able to combine those and get my Seattle Friends.

But I think the way it works is to do like Seattle circle and friends circles. Which means you'd need one for "seattle friends" and "seattle acquantinences" and so on for each city/area/type of circle and maintenance would be awful on those.

If they get it to be the intersection instead of combination it'd be a really, really good networking tool.

Especially since facebook is super hard to do any sort of realistic filtering of "who sees what" considering how awful the grouping features are...

Ehh? Someone sent me an invite today without a problem. I should see it in my inbox within 12 hours :D

Yeah, I got in no problem. The invite was sent a couple days ago, though, not that I suppose that makes a huge difference...

Finally, Google's done social networking properly. I hope this catches on.

well i checked it out and it turns out that in a fail attempt at buying facebook they made their own which includes something called "circles" which, in a nutshell, is stereotyping people into cliques, but through the web where everyone can see. i personally don't like this, actually, scratch that, i hate this idea because people get on social media sites to hang with their friends, not be placed

You still get to hang with your friends, you just have the added option of placing your contacts into circles based on context. However, if you want to emulate facebook you could always keep a single "friends" circle for all your contacts.

true but me as well as many other people don't like to be placed. when you put someone in a circle im assuming that it notifies them and some people get really offended even if you didn't mean to "place" them but you are just a social media geek

You only get notified that you're added to a circle, you cannot see which of their circles your friends have put you in. Also, the same contact can be put into multiple circles.

yes but you would think that if you get notified that you were put in a circle you would think "I wonder what it is?" and go to your friend's page to find out and see the circle you were placed in
