So, since Google announced it before Apple showed theirs, I guess that'll be another claim that Apple copied them.

So, since Google announced it before Apple showed theirs, I guess that'll be another claim that Apple copied them.

Seemed to work for Huawei last year. They "announced" their processor before Apple releases the next iPhone so they can "claim" it's the worlds first 7nm SoC even though it never shipped in actual devices until well after the iPhone.

Edited: Heck, people even claimed the iPhone copied the garbage LG Prada because it was out literally weeks before the iPhone (and was a pathetic device way behind the iPhone).

I’ll give Google credit: at least they confirmed the speculation/leaks as opposed to ignoring them. Sometimes, I wish Apple would do the same thing instead of giving customers the silent treatment until the new hardware is announced, especially since most of the info will have been leaked.

What about Apple can you hold their beer too? camera lens layout looks less symmetrical with a bigger bump on the iphone as well. Gotta think that's winning the uglier design between the two from these renders.
Yeah, the iPhone renders look awful. And what's with that mountain wallpaper? IT looks strangely familiar…

I think the comments about copying have an overly simplistic view of how manufacturing works. These components aren't created in a vacuum for one single company. The industry as a whole moves in certain directions and companies like Apple, Google, Samsung figure out how to incorporate new types of components into their products. Obviously it also works the opposite way, the companies that use the components also drive the creation of new ones and put pressure on the manufacturers to come up with new advancements.

If the technology to create fingerprint sensors for cellphones is maturing enough for Apple to use in their phones, it's not like other manufacturers aren't also looking into the technology, aware that it exists, also developing the technology themselves, possibly showing it off at industry trade shows, also looking for ways to incorporate it into other company's cellphones. Some components are also made directly by companies like Samsung, who make their own phones, but also produce components for Apple...

I'm sure it's a similar set of complicated circumstances driving the creation of these square-shaped camera sensors. It happened with companies regiggering how they produce front-facing camera sensors to fit into a notch. They're not just going to sit idoly and continue to product ones that require a forehead and not refine their technology to move in the direction the rest of the industry is moving.

When the rumor of Apple's square-shaped camera bump first came out, I definitely said all the other companies would be soon copying it.

Here we are :)

And no, I'm not saying anyone is stealing Apple's design, but Apple is a trend-setter. They might not be the absolute first one to come up with a design, but once they adopt a new design (like the notch), the other companies soon follow suit.

They didn't copy Apple. Apple hasn't even released a phone with a square camera yet. Just because their leaks came out first? The Huawei mate 20 already exist with a square design so they are both copying Huawei. How do you completely ignore that part of my post?

You're funny. ios neveeeeerrr takes from android eh? How about their notification's? Quick toggles now for wifi and bluetooth in command center? I really don't care who copies what I just want the best usability for the devices I own. If whatever the copying is, is legal what do I care as a consumer?

Bring me my crown Jester.

This all but confirms that the new iPhone's will have the square shaped rear camera. Yuck.

The way people here make it out to be ... it seems like this is the timeline [dates are not accurate]:

March 1, 2019 - 12:00PM : Rumor about Apple's square shaped camera bump revealed.

March 1, 2019 - 12:00:01 PM: Google halts current design of Pixel 4 and changes it to match the Apple rumor.

Dark mode, removable storage, swype, street view, etc. from the recent keynote.

Personally speaking, as long as we keep getting the good android features on iOS, I'm happy.

Here come all the copying post. AS long as you going to refer to it as copying Huawei Mate 20 and not calling it copying Apple we cool. Also make sure when Apple releases there square camera you all call that copying as well.

Only fair right? Otherwise please just don't post anything to do with copying for all our sanity? Please?

I think most people know Apple copied Huawei's square camera bump. What's strange is how lazy Apple has become.

Google doesn't hide the fact Huawei, HTC, LG, etc. develop their phones, so it's understandable. With Apple, they have their own design team so they really shouldn't be copying.

The new Google 4's supposedly won't have a notch but a line of sensors (forehead like a s9) - rumors are they could be for a sensor to read hand gestures (Google has a chip for this - rumors are this is in it) and / or FaceID like 3d ID security (differentiator from the rest of the Android market). I could see them doing both.

No rear fingerprint reader. I suspect an in-screen reader like the S10 and OnePlus. Nice.

Based on the rumors (which have been very accurate for the last several iterations of the Pixel) my money would go for 3D FaceID (like an iPhone X series) - its got a line of sensors up above top of the display (much more than what they had with the 3XL). But we'll see.

Google is the new Samsung, copy copy copy, and even worse, copying rumors.

Post like this is exactly what make Apple fans look bad as it shows the complete lack of understanding of the industry or any processes. The fact of the matter is Pixel 4 design more or less was near fully locked down a LONG time before the iPhone rumor.
My guess is both more or less are using the same layout because OMG it makes complete sense and pretty clear. How do you get all that in a simple small layout that works well.... Oh a square as it is basically 4 items of roughly the same size requirements.

Totally forgot those other ones. It's hard to be an Apple fan with so many people crying about how it's better how everyone copies them. Let the actual figure it out if they want to sue each other over copying a feature and infringing on patents. Just use the devices you prefer and try to have healthy unbiased discussions on the pros and cons the platforms and devices.

Make the Square camera flush, like LG does with their camera bumps, get rid of that notch in the front, add USB C. Lastly, add Headphone Jack! Then Ill upgrade from my 8plus

Wow. The competition is fierce. I don’t recall a company coming out like this to be the first and undermine the competition. Props, Google. I wonder how Apple responds to this come September’s iPhone event.

Apple’s response will be:

Apple doesn’t care.

I’m not an iSheep. I have owned and enjoyed the last 2 generations of Pixels and will likely trade my 3XL up for yet another. But I do think Apple owns their sphere and is used to the copies and accidental likenesses. They have that iconic logo and that’s all they need to stand out.
