Cheaper hardware....its poly carbonate, lower res screen, not the highend processor.

Sure, we all want the best. Sometimes we even NEED the best. But do we NEED the best phone hardware? Alternatively, would 'less than the best' - with a commensurate price reduction - be 'good enough'?

Honest question. I am a huge fan of the night mode on these phones/cameras and am thinking about purchasing one of these to use as a camera when I would like to leave my (i)Phone behind. Is there anything on the market that can compare to the features of the camera on the Pixel phones that are not phones in this price range (~$400)?

Google gets all this innovation and we get....dark mode.
Yep, that will be the biggest applause for iOS 13 at WWDC...and ouch! That price hike Apple.

I use to say Apple should step it up to compete but now I think Apple are too far behind to step it up.

Maybe you should head on over to the Pixel then. Sounds like that's more your style. I think they even have a "rumors" page if you need to vent. All jokes aside, you really should do that since Apple will only announce Dark mode and you need more innovation.

This is great news for phones in general, appears to be a solid phone, I loved my Nexus back in the day. I feel comfortable that by the time my Xs is ready to be changed the market will be a different place. $1k+ for a phone is just not where it's going to be, Apple will need to come down a fair bit to keep people with them.

I just think that if we had something like an universal translator like they have in Star Trek we would probably be a little less afraid of each other. The unknown is one of the things fueling fear and hate.
Hate starts in your own native language.
No need to worry about elsewhere until that is resolved.

I think it’s funny that when comparing cameras they didn’t bother to compare it to the Xs but decided to go with a phone that’s nearly 2 years old

I am sure you know marketing as well I, assuming that is not much but enough to know it probably doesn't stand up against the camera on the Xs, but for the price, that it stands up against the X is still something.

alot of mad Iphone XR in this thread........ Hopefully this year upgrade you guys could get a 1080P display....Its almost 2020......

Nah if we’re VERY VERY VERY lucky Apple will put an OLED at 1080P or what ever funny resolution they come up with in it actually in 2020...

Gotta say that white 3A is damn tempting... but have to stay with iPhone, sigh.. like my Apple Watch too much.

I would not be surprised if those shots were taken prior to the xs being released, if it is indeed the same camera as the pixel.

Oh I think it will happily stand up against the XS actually, the Pixel 3 does and it’s the exact same camera!
When it stands up enough for you to buy one, that would really be saying something.
Otherwise all this Pixel envy is just noise.

Sorry but it’s a joke when people complain enough about apple and what they are doing....if they aren’t doing it for you then try android.

That’s what i did and tried to go all in with Samsung ecosystem but lasted a month when i realised it isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be and thinking it’s better on the other side when it really isn’t.

Buy what you enjoy and if apple isn’t something you enjoy anymore then move on...

The iPhone 7 would be significantly faster than a Pixel with the 670 Snapdragon. While the multi-core results for the 670 are close to the A10 in the iPhone 7, the single core score is only about 50% as fast. So the majority of tasks you do the iPhone 7 will be significantly faster. In the best-case scenario with a highly optimized App that can utilize all cores at once, the 670 could ALMOST catch up to the A10.

The XR isn't a fair comparison as it would absolutely mop the floor with the Pixel. It's also a lot more money.

Cool, got any proof of all this yet? Or is it, as I suspect, currently just your personal opinion...
I’d suggest you wait for tests to backup those claims, and side by side comparisons, before making them.

Google Assistant gets rapid fire requests while Siri gets you the ability to manually program each request yourself. WTF are they thinking. They’ve become a joke in both HomeKit and Voice Assistant AI. Tim Cook needs to change direction rapidly.

Exactly. "Hey Siri, Hey Siri, Hey Siri" gets annoying and old after a while... I already have to talk to my kids like that to get their attention! AI is the future, and Apple is being left behind. The only reason they have customer loyalty from our house at this point is because of privacy and because of how sticky their ecosystem is. It used to be because their products were the most advanced...

Did you even watch it? It makes Apple look like an ancient old company,
not years, but decades behind. It's truly embarrassing.
"Nothing really interesting"? A crazy statement...

I watched a live blog, yes. Nothing interesting. Unless you're so enamored with Google that anything they release is the second coming of Christ.

Siri works well for me and many people I know that actually use it daily. They problems Google solves are not real world use cases.

So, because you don't see a real world use case for some of these features means they shouldn't exist and aren't important?

Part of what makes innovation interesting and exciting is coming up with and seeing new features that we didn't know we needed or wanted until we got them.

I would buy one, but I’ll lose the function of my Apple Watch etc so no I won’t thanks. In my mind my old Nexus 5 was way better then the iPhone was at the time. And the bargain price had a lot to do with that, these new handsets are returning to that mindset, with a better screen then my XR and a camera capable of matching, and some would say, besting the XS and XR!
Salty? Hell yes I am! For less then half the price of an XR..

I haven’t even mentioned Siri, I don’t use it as it’s so useless unless it’s to identify a music track.

The features and convenience that a Nexus device offered was on another level to iOS. But Apple’s iOS is easier to use more or less and the hardware is nice, however... iOS crashes more still I find, and the You Tube app refreshes for a past time...

Yeah, swipe-to-go-back is truly innovative. THANK YOU GOOGLE OVERLORDS
