Google just DESTROYED Apple’s keynote—before it even happened. Aw, poor Apple. You sad face? LUL

Take note, Cupertino: this is what innovation looks like. Not that APFS crap. Not that Swift crap. Not that Metal 2 crap. Not RAM management crap. Not 3D Touch crap. Not FaceID crap. Not Siri Shortcuts crap. Not AR crap. Not iWatch EKG crap. Not custom silicon crap.

Thank god we have Google to innovate for us. Thank god.

nah, play on words should make sense, otherwise it's just stupid)
Wooosh
Hear that sound?

It's the joke going over your head.

Other people got it.

Shade has two meanings, an internationally recognized one and an Urban one.

However there is something stupid here, but it ain't my joke.
My apologies in advance if the joke was too subtle for you.

Is this suppose to be a joke?

But if it noticeably doesn't work as well as an iPhone, that customer is not going to be happy.

I don't think the target consumer is going to be an iPhone user.

The consumer here is at the low end or perhaps looking to replace a broken or older Android device with a brand new one for a reasonable price. Having the best camera on the market today in a phone at $399 is going to appeal to many.

It's really dumb to have to point a device at my face to use it. I have a device with FaceID, but will never turn FaceID on again. I went back to the stone ages instead and use a passcode. That way I don't have to move my device or move my face to use the device. So much for leading technology.

So... you’re pointing your phone away from your face when you use it? Do you only use your phone when it’s lying on its back on a table or something?

I use FaceID regularly and don't seem to have all these imaginary issues people talk about.

Voice controlled assistants are useful? Must be why Google released the Nest Hub and Amazon has the Echo Show. Because nobody needs to see content on their screen - voice is all you need. /s

I think people's heads here would explode if they did. Google is implementing several things from iOS that will lock down Android even more. I can't wait until the next obligatory "Android can do this" comment someone will inevitably make so I can let them know that Google removed that ability and you can no longer actually do that.

You caught that too. Ironic isn’t it.
That’s .

Did you catch the poster comparing the cheap pixels to the xr. Smh.

Does anyone actually believe google will be able to actually sell the cheaper pixels to consumers.

Don’t think anyone noticed that every time google releases a cheap version of its smartphone they kill the series; nexus, moto, now pixel.

Google: Flutter, Fushia (yet to be released)
MSFT: WSL Linux Kernel OSS, Teminal App

Apple better deliver on Marzipan. They may be so far behind when Satya & Sundar start delivering their long-game plays that it just wont matter anymore.

Why do people continue to say Pixel has best camera? It isn’t even in top 10.

Apple delivered marzipan last year.
If they can compete they will, if they can’t...

A few stores are offering a free $100 gift card with the pixel 3a. Not a bad price.

Hmm...For that price, this will probably tempt me to try a Pixel. Watch out for others like me, Apple!
You're not exactly getting a flagship phone at half the price, but lower prices for slightly lower specs are always a nice change.

Google just destroyed Apple with Google AR maps, this is truly helpful and one of the most useful applications of AR I've ever seen, I've actually thought about this in the past.

I don't understand how Tim Cook supposedly sees AR as the future and misses something like this?

Add this to the long list of things Apple is visionless these days.

I do like that augmented reality stuff in google maps. Especially for walking directions!

I think it really makes a case that the best form factor for consuming AR is a pair of glasses. I can’t imagine having to hold a smartphone up for any extended period of time. Makes more sense on a headset which sports an expanded field of view and will always reside on my face.

So that’s a no then because you haven’t linked to any of these postings..

Should I type out a complete mathematical theorem just to claim 2+2=4? Did you not understand my reasoning about the 670 using A75 cores, which are well documented for performance?

Certain things are obvious. Don't worry, I'll make sure to remind you of my claims when the first Pixel 3a reviews come out. But I'll give you advance warning so you can buy some lotion to soothe the upcoming burn.

Edited: Just did a search and seems there are new results available.

https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/search?utf8=✓&q=pixel+3a

More tests have shown up on Geekbench with today's date. And lo & behold, they all test the same.

Oh look, updated my search again and here's an actual review WITH benchmarks:

https://www.digitaltrends.com/cell-phone-reviews/google-pixel-3a-review/

Yup, the A10 in the iPhone 7 is significantly faster all around than the Snapdragon 670.

Yes and no, I'd argue Apple has made the worst AR demos, where they show people playing games holding iPads in front of them, that's just horrible UX exactly because of what you say. But Google Maps AR is a better example, because:

1. If you are walking, you don't have to constantly look at the phone, just the crucial points where it's telling you to turn or do something.
2. If you are driving, you likely have your phone mounted on the car like a GPS, so that's a great use case.

Like the original iPhone that did not offer 3G, nor MMS? Standard features at the time. How about the iPod that did not have WiFi like the Zune? Apple has always been about integration, not about being best in any one category.

That said, I think Apple knows they need to improve in A.I., hence their replacing the team’s leadership and elevating their new A.I. person to their executive team. Siri shortcuts added a lot of functionality that was missing for me. I hope to see more new features in iOS 13. (I would like to have multi-user support on HomePod and better context awareness in general - those are probably my biggest requests for Siri right now.)

Siri shortcuts seems like one of the most anti-intuitive things to come out of Cupertino in ages. My original wording was poor - I should have stated the most advanced in usability. Apple used to be so simple and everything just worked... it seems like lately it’s a constant fight to get things to work properly.

Won’t turn by turn instructions cover both your scenarios?

I think Apple has a different vision for AR, where they envision it bringing people together (eg: several people huddled together enjoying a common AR game or experience). I also suspect Apple will likely do something like AR map directions as well; it’s just a matter of time.

And don’t forget that these services will likely also be made available on iOS, so users still win either way.
