Still with that?

People does inform themselves or they write the first things they think?

iTunes Radio is ad supported and it has a paid subscription
Songza is ad supported and it has a paid subscription

What is the ****ing difference?

One has the beloved :apple: logo, the other doesn't!

Looks like google wins this round.

I'm still waiting for the Last.fm acquisition. That'll be a day to celebrate.

Why? Just curious. I love last.fm but don't see what good Apple buying them would do.

I love last.fm too, but feel it's whithering away a bit. An acquisition from a major tech company might help. I'd rather it were Google or Facebook instead of Apple though. Scrobbling needs to remain open and cross platform for last.fm to be any good.

No, God forbid. Last.fm is still decent because it still feels like early 00s enthusiast's music network. I deleted my account 2 years ago where I had like 44k scrobbles only because I didn't have time for it.

They had Radio services way before this trend started anyway.

5 million subs who don't pay anything aren't worth very much. And the beats acquisition was really to bring on board two music industry insiders.

$3B for 2 people? Those 2 people cost 3 BILLION dollars? Apple couldn't have approached each of them and offered each $500M to successfully recruit them? $1B each? No other music industry insiders could have been had for $100M or $50M or a fat salary of $XM per year?

I speculate Beats was mostly about profit margins & popularity. Beats sells a lot of headphones at fat profits and Apple bought them to add to the profits. I don't think any "new hire" is likely worth a big chunk of $3B. And music subscription model expertise seems to be readily accessible via many sources (Apple purchased Lala quite a long time ago: http://www.zdnet.com/how-apple-used-its-money-and-muscle-to-kill-an-itunes-competitor-7000010029/ and did what with that streaming music expertise?)

The 5M are yielding ad revenues- a model that seems to work well for Google. They know how to make a lot of money on ad-supported services.

And where this gets to eventually is the potential for Google to offer a streaming subscription service for free* vs. Apple offering Beats subscription service for some monthly fee. Which one will likely have/grow the most subscribers? Rhetorical: I already know the collective answer from here- only Apple can do this right, so it will be Apple growing the most subscribers with a paid service vs. free*.

He also likes to hit women a lot. Especially hitting their heads on walls. How do YOU do?

Women? Really? One charge of violence against ONE woman has now turned into women???

I am no fan of Dre, but let's keep things truthful.

the headline is pure click bait.

When is a headline not click bait?

...what is the purpose of a headline?
...what is the purpose of writing an article?
...what is the purpose of running a website?
...why are we on the web?
...what is the sound of one tree clapping in a forest with no one around to hear it?

As I said above, Google only introduced their music service because it was rumored that Apple was planning to introduce their own.

When are people going to get off this bus? All I ever hear in Apple forums is "the only reason company x came out with x is because they thought Apple may come out something similar". It's getting overly ridiculous already and gives the impressions of a forum full of preschoolers. I feel like I'm watching my 4 yr old playing with his friends.

Sadly, you have your head buried in the sand and it bothers you that folks are stating the obvious. Google copies. Samsung copies. Apple copies. It would be nice if you got off the bus and quit whining.

The whole point of a message board is for folks to come together and share thoughts. They (the people you are whining about) are using the platform correctly.

Songza has some decent playlists but doesn't have an on-demand service like Beats or Google Music does.

Streaming on Songza is great because whatever the programmers did, it doesn't eat up the battery like GM does...

You know I never understand this kind of elitism when it comes to consumer electronic products. So these reviewers say good things about this product, but you're so quick to point out that they're not "audiophiles" hence their opinions are somehow not worth the same as those of "audiophiles". Everyone has a different taste in music and surely how it sounds. Who are these "publications that specialize in A/V vs mobile or a potpourri of things" to say that how people listen to music is wrong, discounting other factors such as build quality, brand, design, etc.? It's kinda ironic that had the world filled with this kinda of attitude Apple would have not been successful and that would have been a shame.
Most people don't care about quality. They only care about looks. Those who do care about quality will find appropriate reviews for their needs.

Not sure why that bothers you so much. You have reverse elitism.

It's like playing a game where they show you a picture and they ask you to say the first thing that comes to your mind...

Not to mention the article highlights the fact that it is ad based and there's no mention of subscription for zongsa... So what will be the first thing to cross your mind...

Also I like your selective quoting and ignoring my second question... :)

Beats: $3B for 250K subscribers, poorly rated (but high margin) headphones and 2 leaders
Songza: $15M for 5M subscribers, no headphones and non-famous talent

Beats 250K are paying subscribers while Songza's 5M are free (ad supported). Looking forward, does the subscription for sale trump the free* subscription?

Hmmm

You forgot the hardware part of the Beats business which is what makes up most of the value ;)

Wow, how very Samsung of them...knee jerk and copy. I think Apple was thinking about Beats for a looong time.
