How is Google copying Apple? Google has been far ahead of Apple in regards to music streaming services.

Playlist curation is something that Songza excels at and seems to be the main reason why Google bought them. The idea is to improve the playlist feature of Play Music and also the rumored YouTube music service.

Spotify purchased Echo Nest, another company with good playlist curation technology, before Apple bought Beats. If anything, both Apple and Google are setting up their own services to stay competitive with Spotify.

How is Google copying Apple? Google has been far ahead of Apple in regards to music streaming services.

The logic is: if a company introduces something new before Apple, it is only because they are trying to be first at doing something Apple is rumored to be working on; if they introduce something after Apple has made it, then they are just copying Apple and following in their footsteps. The entire strategy and operation of every single tech company in the world revolves around what Apple does or is rumored to be doing.

You know I never understand this kind of elitism when it comes to consumer electronic products. So these reviewers say good things about this product, but you're so quick to point out that they're not "audiophiles" hence their opinions are somehow not worth the same as those of "audiophiles". Everyone has a different taste in music and surely how it sounds. Who are these "publications that specialize in A/V vs mobile or a potpourri of things" to say that how people listen to music is wrong, discounting other factors such as build quality, brand, design, etc.? It's kinda ironic that had the world filled with this kinda of attitude Apple would have not been successful and that would have been a shame.

Wait, what?

so this is the Google strategy? do the same as Apple and not let them work on a new category? i/o was very disappointing Flat GUI design in an overall (iOS7) a new way of secure open sharing for developers (iOS8) a brand new car interface (Carplay) and so on… now a music company?? too?? This is going to be interesting. Cat and Mouse strategy 2015

Google had music streaming before iRadio. No clue where you got the impression Google started one to mirror Apple. Besides, they're both behind the times in this category.

As I said above, Google only introduced their music service because it was rumored that Apple was planning to introduce their own.

You're right. The only real difficulty was getting ATT to agree to do this, rather than choosing one of the other 100 million apps that are available. How is it that no one else was able to strike this deal, given that it is so easy to do so?.

I think that ATT has proven to be more liberal and forthcoming when it comes to partnerships in hopes of gaining new marketshare.

Iphone
iPad
Beats
Fire Phone/Amazon

Where others have said no, ATT has said yes. Seems to of been working for them.

Do people really believe this crap?

This forum is starting to compete with Appleinsider

That's perfect alignment for the purchasers.

Apple | Beats | monthly subscription
Google | Songza | free, ad-supported

And still repeating the same wrong things.

By the way, I didn't knew that Apple discontinued the free ad-supported iTunes Radio. Can you link to that?

Yeah, Google copied third party keyboards, widgets, notification center, control center. They are unscrupulous.

:p:rolleyes:

I am using an Android device, can you tell me where can i find the control center please? They are mashed in the notification center some of them.

Well... I really like Songza... and I use Google's music player over iTunes Match... so I'm happy about this.

Usually, you just pull the top menu bar down, some phones will allow this to be swiped sideways for more controls.

If you have a later galaxy device, you can do a two finger pull down for extra items.

Yeah, have the galaxy S5!
Much better prefer the dedicated CC that iOS have. Didn't know about 2 fingers pull down thing. Seems handy. Btw, have not found away to have them on lock screen, is it possible?

Me too ;)

Yep, single and dual finger pull downs work fine while the screen is locked .

You can also dismiss notifications while in the lock screen too.

Much better prefer the dedicated CC that iOS have.

Maybe try this?

Poorly rated headphones? How about you check out the reviews for their latest products first before you speak so publicly and decisively?

Ironically, I checked out the whole line of beats headphones today at one of those fancy displays at an electronics store.

Hadn't really listened to them before. I wasn't expecting to be blown away, but I was expecting them to be as bad as they were, to be honest. In fact, they were so bad I called a salesman over to ask if the display was broken.

Build quality on some of them was nice, but can't imagine wearing phones that heavy for any length of time - even if they sounded awesome, which they didn't.

...I have 20years or so of audio engineering experience, but am not a reviewer.

I guess if someone needs a review to tell them what sounds bad or good, maybe these headphones will be ok for them. But for the rest of us with ears, I don't think they will find themselves in any recording or playback studio anytime soon.

...my 2cents

This makes Beats a great purchase. The user base was not the deal but the brand. Everyone knows Beats and what they do....this company Google has purchased is leaving the majority going who?

The experience and talent they have gotten in this deal has worked well for Apple too. Dre is talented and has expertise of use.

How thick are some people on this site? Google bought Song a because of how well they curate playlists. It is a feature that lacks a bit in Google Play Music, which is a paid service that relies on zero ads. Songza also has a premium option with no ads.

Apple bought Beats for brand recognition, cool factor among youths, and a profitable headphone business. Google bought Songza specifically to integrate their playlist curation. Two very different purchases.

It looks like they are also following in their footsteps with horrible dayglo gradients.

And the winner is:

Wait three years and see what happens, its what you do with these companies after you buy them that matters. The industry is littered with poor acquisitions that amounted to nothing.......

Both companies are worth what they're worth.

15 mil for songza which is basically what google could make in a day but can't be bothered to build the users or is afraid it would flop (google+). no idea on profitability if any but zero profits coming from users.

3 Bil for Beats, a highly profitable billion dollar profit company that happens to have some music industry clout, two very high profile guys and reputations. The company will pay itself off in 3 years regardless of any streaming service or not.

Apple certainly paid a lot but I know which investment I would pick!

Ad supported... Why am I not surprised google bought them...?

Also 5 million free subscribers eh...? Can we get the number of ACTIVE users(of a frequency of atleast once in two days for atleast 30 minutes a session) in the last 1 month...?

Beats: $3B for 250K subscribers, poorly rated (but high margin) headphones and 2 leaders
Songza: $15M for 5M subscribers, no headphones and non-famous talent

Beats 250K are paying subscribers while Songza's 5M are free (ad supported). Looking forward, does the subscription for sale trump the free* subscription?

Hmmm

5 million subs who don't pay anything aren't worth very much. And the beats acquisition was really to bring on board two music industry insiders.

Ad supported... Why am I not surprised google bought them...?

Still with that?

People does inform themselves or they write the first things they think?

iTunes Radio is ad supported and it has a paid subscription
Songza is ad supported and it has a paid subscription

What is the ****ing difference?
