Ah, Their WordLens purchase has been refined further, that is certainly exciting if you use it.Google Lens and standalone VR.
Google and Microsoft are trying to use iOS to get all users into their eco-system: apps, cloud, assistants.
I wonder how this will pan out... one winner, or the choice of the 3 big-gun-eco-systems for more than a decade:
– Apple
– Microsoft
These 3 love-HATE eachother.
I have no doubt Google Assistant is better than Siri. But how is this useful at all on iOS? Who is going to open an app just to use the assistant?
....not caring about services? *mark wahlberg squinty meme*I see the mobile device as the food tray while the services are the food and desserts. Google has been smart to focus on having the best cross-platform services while Microsoft recently caught on with post-Ballmer era. Apple will eventually pay the price for not caring about services or cross-platform.
Apple need to drag their web based services into 2017, and make them robust, and play nicely with other ecosystems.
Google need to stick at something for more than 5 mins, and support what they do have properly for 'normal' users
..MS look the best for me right now, have migrated my cloud services to O365 and been impressed so far but as usual YMMV.
*patiently awaits the lazy tech "journalists" to point to a revamped Siri at WWDC as somehow a "response" to Alexa/Assistant as if these things can be overhauled in the span of two weeks*I'm sorry but Google's assistant is better than Siri. Apple seriously needs to step up. Here's looking at you WWDC.
....which is why Apple has been developing their AI offerings for years. They just didn't shout from the rooftops about it. They're also focused on doing it in a way that is strictly on device instead of collecting people's data. Obviously with that privacy concern in place Apple will never likely match Google, but personally I'll take the tradeoff seeing as I don't use assistants all that much anyway.Google is so far ahead of Apple in Ai its not even funny and Apple can't catch up unless Google makes a major error. Every day their AI will get smarter and learn new skills because of all the data they collect. Google has always been an ai company, search was just a means to an end. I recently switched to IOS and none of these announcements make me want to switch back but Apple may start to see their fortunes change as AI becomes a normal part of every day life.
What AI? We dont have AI..Its pre canned responses to search queries that are already on the internet..Google is so far ahead of Apple in Ai its not even funny and Apple can't catch up unless Google makes a major error. For anyone that wants to try it out: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-google-assistant-get-help-anytime-anywhere/id1220976145?mt=8
It will start Siri and talk to it with a voice that Siri understand...I have no doubt Google Assistant is better than Siri. But how is this useful at all on iOS? Who is going to open an app just to use the assistant?
There is going to be a war on AI which Apple couldn't afford to lose.
Just tried it. It actually has a lot of user options and it's fairly responsive. I was impressed for the difference questions I asked and its accuracy.
But can it set a timer for 5 minutes?
better than Siri in every way!I think it's working just fine!
I genuinely don't see the point of Google Home. Is it too hard to use your phone or computer for that sort of thing?
