Hey Tim Apple, the Windows XP's level photos app is retro-cool, but it's 2024 and people want awesome photo editing/search features that Google and Samsung have.

I remember when I used to look forward to Google phones. Back when they started the Nexus line. Dealt with their inconsistency for years, I don't even bother anymore. Only way I would have one of these devices is if it was given to me for free. I would never spend my hard earned money on Google.

As much as folks say Apple has delivered the same device for years (which is absurd). I love the consistency.

when are they goimg to realise the market does not want AI.

Add myself to photos I’m not in? Oh per-lease, have a day off!

"Unfortunately, for PWM-sensitive people like me, Google hasn't taken the hint and improved its PWM rate. The Pixel 9 series utilizes 240Hz PWM dimming across the board, meaning the Pixel now has the slowest PWM rate on any major phone. The lone exception is the Galaxy Z Flip 6. We know that Pixel displays can push this number 20x higher, so we're not sure why Google hasn't made any positive changes yet."
All of these phone-makers should be ashamed of themselves for using PWM and causing negative health consequences for their customers.

They look beautiful! Finally symmetrical bottom bezel on the non-Pro and everything else as far as specs go looks great. 12GB of RAM, 48MP ultrawide camera, 120 Hz display with 7 years of OS updates and even more regular cool feature drops for $799 is great value. I’ve been wanting to try a Pixel and might give this one a shot.

I’d never buy a Pixel because of the software, but let's be honest, in terms of hardware, it’s great and 200€ cheaper than the base iPhone will be.
The beauty of Android is that you can make it your own - just install another launcher and you could even have it look like an iPhone. To be honest, Android software is as good as, or better than, iOS these days. Then the camera is indisputably better than the iPhone. I say that as an iPhone user for many years.

The Pixel Buds, is that a fungus growing out of your ear 🧐

The round Pixel Watch really sucks. My Watch Ultra is head and shoulders above the lame roundness.

Zoom enhance, Magic Editor, & Auto Frame look good.

I would have gotten the Pixel 9 Fold but find default Android so boring and ironically lacking a lot of customization options. I would have bought it over the z
6 Fold if it was running OneUi with Good Look from Samsung.
Android allows you to use alternative launchers - you don't have to use what comes with the phone. Here are just a couple of examples of what one user created using smart launcher:

Omg that video is so so cringe. Almost all the AI stuff they show is insane gimmicks…
Better then Apples keynotes, trying to always pretend they invented something new when in reality a lot of features should have been there for years
Well, yes,
And that's a good thing!
Technology should be a tool, not your reason to exist. Thinking of screwdrivers here, it's important that they work and all but they aren't supposed to be your life validation.

Overpriced... maybe?
That's hard to know, they could get away with both higher and lower prices...
apple is over priced, RAM in their computers as an example. And tech can be fun but productive at the same time

There's more RAM in these phones than Apple's base Pro laptop. C'mon Tim. It's time.
I guess it takes a lot of RAM to generate wildly inaccurate images of the American Founding Fathers haha

8GB is enough for the average consumer. It’s an appliance for most people. Come on!

There's more to Android than just the home screen. For example, I find the Pixel quick settings and notifications to be horribly dull looking.

I really really want that fold phone. It is so nice. I've been bored with the iPhone now for a couple of years.

Is there any evidence that adding more RAM will actually improve performance?

lolwut?

How many tabs do you run while you play your music, type your docs, chat to your friends / coworkers, check your emails, play games, etc., etc.? That's all RAM-based. The more RAM you have, the more things that you can have going on in the background. A lot of professionals are upset because most of the professional apps require anywhere from 1GB to 8GB of RAM. That coupled with a RAM hog like Chrome, and you're already hitting virtual memory (which starts eating your hard drive) and is slower.

Apple is being disingenuous with this entry-level product saying that a professional can use it, and that's the problem.

Either drop the entry-level altogether and make the next tier the entry level or bump the spec up to 16GB like it should be and move everything else from there by 8GB.

Macbook Air M3 base - 12GB
Macbook Pro M3 base - 16GB
Macbook Pro M3 Pro base -24GB
Macbook Pro M3 Max base - 24GB

It now separates itself from the Air and makes more sense from both a consumer point of view and a professional point of view.

RAM is cheappppp nowadays. Hopefully Apple will have this sorted by the M4 hardware, but I highly doubt it. It's only companies like Google / Microsof that will challenge them to change.

An average consumer should not be buying a professional device. That's exactly my point.

Funny you mention this - I was building a new NAS recently and bought 16GB of RAM because it worked out cheaper and more conveniently than 8GB somehow.

Even Gurman knows Apple is in the gutter.

These phones blow the 16 pro out the water in features and looks, who's going to buy an iPhone that does what last years did and the year before, and before... but but but capture button!!!!!!!

I don’t understand why on earth Apple doesn’t release any SERIOUS groundbreaking items anymore. The original iPhone, the original MacBook Air, and so forth. These were true game changers. Now? I have no clue what they’re doing. They always seem to be a day late and a dollar (euro?) short

Google didn't adopt Qi2. Google are Grade-A morons. At this rate the asleep at the wheel car industry will adopt the standard by 2050.
