Sweet, and just like the floppy disc days! "Check this video out. Hmm, I know it's on one of these SD cards somewhere...here it is, no, wait, that's the 2GB card, I think it's on the black 4GB card. Or is it on the blue 4GB card? Frak. And I can't believe my kid lost my 8GB card with my GPS map data on it..."

With 32GB card you have a much memory in one piece as iPhone has but you still can have more. So your point is totally invalid. Good try though.

OK, you are too emotional to think straight. If your music/video collection exceeds 64GB just buy five 16GB SD cards. You can do it now, you do not need to wait for next iPhone. ANd you will be able to use these cards with your next phone as well (but not with iPhone).

Yup carrying around 5 SD cards is real practical..

Your endless anti-Apple trolling grows wearisome. You do realize you're on a website about Apple stuff?

Time to update the Ignore list.

You do realize I am writing about Apple stuff? I am not counting on you reading my posts though. You seem to be a lost cause ;)

Why, you've had sucky cams in your lifetime.

You're right, what is all that ? It looks like the top bar in OS X in my Macbook. Such a confusing mess.

Well it shoots full 30 fps SD 480p video, h264. And you're got to admit Apple knows video. You can watch videos (shot in broad daylight given) from an iphone on my HD screen no problem. Looks pretty decent upscaled. However the 720p crap from my 12mp sony is just crap. And so is most of the consumer miniDV. Ane the iPhone video certainly looks better than most of the mpeg video cameras recording right to mini DVD or files.

I accidentally said DVCam earlier. It's the same format as miniDV for the most part, but you'd find it in pro grade cameras that are going to have better glass and larger multiple ccds. Of course it's not better than DVCam.

And for the convenience, I really have no reason to pull out a miniDV camcorder to get some video of my son doing something. Besides, by the time I find it and realize I don't have tape or that the battery is dead, my son would have quit doing whatever cute thing he's doing. I've captured some great video with the iPhone 3Gs.

Oh, and the top bar in my macbook looks a lot better than that. Nicely spaced out. Not all jammed together. Once again, I think they're trying to do too much. It looks like you'll be able to click on those little icons, so maybe that's why there are so many and they're so large. But that's just not good small interface design.

Whoa, has anyone noticed that this handset has active noise cancellation built-in? Not only will I not drop calls, but my voice search and calls I do make will be crystal clear! That is pretty nice.

I like that HTC hears us and responds! Biggest G1 complaint is no 3.5mm headphone jack. They mention that this phone no longer requires extra adapters, they listened!

You don't speak with your experience. You are imagine.

I went to the Apple page for the latest Mac Pro. This is what Apple said. It does not say anything about 8 GB DIMM. IOW, you are putting words into Apple's mouth. This is a bad habit.

Again, in case you're an analphabetic : I never mentionned Macs, nor Apple or any of its affiliates.

You are putting words into my mouth. This is a bad habit.

Except those top bar icons like you mentioned have been around on phones for about... oh... as long as phones have had UIs. Battery indicators, signal indicators, Data connectivity, carrier name, time, Missed called icons, New SMS icons, etc.. etc.. Even the iPhone has such a top bar.

And I'm trying too hard... right...

Here is an in-depth review of iPhone camera. To quote: The iPhone Video camera is clunky and not particularly high quality. There are many small video cameras and even other phones (think Nokia) with superior quality.

The review does praise iPhone camera for ease of use.

Nexus does have video camera. Here is what Wikipedia says:

Camera 5.0 megapixel with video (720 x 480 px at 20 fps or higher), geotagging, LED flash and auto focus

I am not going to get into discussion about the quality of iPhone video vs DVCams. Your point here does not sound reasonable though. iPhone's lens is just too small to compete there and anybody who knws a little about photo/video would have problems believing you (I do not have first-hand experience with iPhone though).

The look and feel of the interface is a matter of preference. The important difference here is that Nexus home screen is customizable and iPhone's one is not.

Cool. I'm surprised they don't advertise it. Maybe it sucks like my point and shoot.

I've been a freelance video editor for the last 12 years and working day in and day out in video production since 1993. Shooting, editing, producing. 17 years of nonlinear video editing. But that should mean nothing. We all see enough tv to know what looks like crap. My wife's Sony miniDV camera. Crap. Yes it's old, but the color is never right. It's washed out. Looks like hell if it's dark. Doesn't have enough saturation except in bright sunlight. My JVC miniDV is just a cheap piece of junk, but looks better. However it's nothing special. I like the iphone progressive shooting and the convenience. Sure, the lens isn't anything special, but it seems to do the job. Plus the ability to select focus with a finger is pretty cool. Just curious, does the nexus do that? I love that. Why doesn't my Rebel digital SLR do that? Why don't the $5000 slrs do that? Why doesn't my $200 point and shoot do that? Then nexus might, but I didn't see any mention. Probably does.

Are you a betting man?

Looks great. I can foresee a pincer movement by the Open Handset Alliance that could cause some serious trouble for Apple and the iPhone. It will be fun to watch how this develops.

Reed Rothchild, Are you a betting man?

Please share with us why you think Google's original Android partners will have any interest in joining this "pincer movement" you foresee.

If you partner with a group of people, you bring to the table a set of skills or offerings. In the case of Google it was Android OS. In return, Google got access to users' data. That's what Google does. The phone manufacturers made and sold the phones, and in return got an OS - something they have always failed to achieve.

If you're Google, what you don't then do is suddenly do is change the terms of the deal and decide to become a manufacturer - effectively diluting, if not actually destroying the market for the products being offered by your partners. It's just plain bad manners imo.

So, your allusion to military tactics is as inappropriate as it is poorly thought out.

Here is a review of Nexus where the guy tested video camera. He says: Video on the Nexus One shoots at 27FPS, and again I don’t feel it truly matches up with the iPhone for the same reasons as stated above with the camera.

When did Google become a manufacturer ? I see HTC branding on the Nexus One...

Google is simply setting up a page where it will directly promote and sell Android devices. Nexus One is the first such device. They have said that Droid will be sold through http://www.google.com/phone/ eventually too and many other from other handset manufacturer (presently, Android is in use by Sony Ericsson, Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, Dell, Acer...).

Haha! Are you asking why your Canon DSLR doesn't focus at the touch of a finger? Have you tried using the shutter button? Why doesn't iPhone shoot in RAW and have a massive CMOS sensor?

It'll be nice to use a camera on a phone that has a light to help autofocus, then uses a flash. Give me a break, the camera on most cell phones are a joke. Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Nokia have done pretty well in this department. Unless I can snap a photo in low light with iPhone, I don't want to hear another sad story about how amazing it is. The cult is unbearable at times.

And digital camera reviews says this "In terms of its performance testing it did quite well. It had good color accuracy and resolution, though while it had very good distortion, the sharpness was low. The noise was above what you'll usually see in a camera, but wasn't too bad. The video performance was respectable for an SD camera, especially the excellent color accuracy."

It does say that it's generally a little soft. Which I prefer to sharp hard edge compression artifacts I see on other video.

The point re: focus is that iPhone picks the focus point by where you touch the screen. Much easier than using camera scroll wheels or joysticks.

Well, it was a little tongue in cheek of course. But I was just driving the Apple innovation. I'll bet you will see touch screens on those cameras. The real reason it's not on a slr is because you can't see your image on the screen until after you've taken it. Hell, for years they've been trying to manipulate focus zones in different ways. It'll tell you in AF mode where it has focused with a little light. Or it tries to read your eye and determine where you want it to focus. Why not have touch focus for portrait or landscape photography. Why not have built in touch light metering, etc? Touch a part of the lcd and it gives you feedback about distance, exposure, etc. Of course you'd have to have an slr with lcd visual feedback. I think those have started to show up, although I don't know how they do it.

They have started to stick HD video on them too. But it's no replacement for an HD camera. Funny how I might carry around my iPhone for portability and if I'll need video recording, and leave my Rebel XT at home. I used to have a nice Canon XL1 that stayed at home quite a bit because my Hi8 was simply smaller and more portable for vacation/family videography.
