I have one. And it's not bad. But it's not the iPhone I wish I'd gotten.

Lots of headline 'features', and they do exist, they just perform like crap. When "multitasking" the phone is unbelievably slow and battery life is about 4 - 6 hours and flash - forget it. It simply doesn't work, makes the phone into a nice pocket warmer though. Browser crashes, video is choppy (when it plays at all) and - horror of horrors - you can't use farmville on it!

It is my observation that everything you said applies to iPhone (except for multitasking) ;)

Here's what I don't get...

I was at the keynote when Steve Jobs announced the original iPhone. He specifically said (paraphrasing here) "We patented the heck out of this thing and we will vigorously defend those patents".

With 6-12 months, every phone maker had an iPhone lookalike and now they appear to be getting bolder and bolder. If Apple's legal team doesn't have grounds to sue them, what the heck did they patent?!? And if they DO have grounds, but don't sue for political/business relationship reasons then what the heck is the purpose of patenting?

If the nexus one worked on at&ts 3g network i would actually consider getting one now.

my iphones getting pretty boring. i need something new and different.

I believe it is working with ATT 3G, but no discount/subsidy. Otherwise, I would certainly give it a try. One thing for sure Steve Jobs thinks it is a thread to iPhone, may he is right for once.

In the vast majority of corporate environments, no one can customize anything.

Your kidding me?! Well pretty much every office I work in to has desktops with custom wallpaper, including mine

Not the window themes maybe but certainly the desktops.

And surely we dont want our shiny iphones to be bound by the same constraints as our stuffy corporate environments.

Someone goes into a store...sees the iphone and a andriod phone. Owner goes, I hate to break it to you, but the iphone doesn't have 3rd party multitasking, no way to change the default theme and you can't save email attachments that's not a photo.

the customer would be like "okay um? ...and that whats multitasking? What's a theme? and like attachments for what? hey, bill what's the phone cindy has again. Bill says "the iphone". okay, then i'll take that.

---------------------------------------------------------------

just remember, you are part of the whiners group and that group makes up 10% of total iphone sales. 10%~~!! RULE NUMBER ONE: Never follow the fanatics advice. This is the NFL's rule, and why they are the most profitable sport. Most people don't care if they can't do multitasking. What's next? you go and give them multitasking support, only to see the battery completely drained and the customer pissed off. You can't win. WHY CAN"T YOU GUYS SEE THAT!!!!!!!????????????????

Apple isn't making a phone for you 10%, its making a phone for the 90% of the people who just like the iphone for what it is. Because most DONT CARE ABOUT COPY AND PASTE!!!! ONLY YOU 10%. Most people DONT CARE ABOUT MULTITASK!!!!! Only you 10%. Most people Dont care about STUPID THEMES!!!!!!. Only you 10%

and if i'm apple, I say F*** you 10% and same goes to google. They can do whatever you want with the google phone, it won't satisfy everyone.

You stubborn morons, if you guys are complaining so much...THEN DONT BUY THE DAMN PHONE. It's that simple. Nobody is putting a damn gun to your stupid head. Buy a nexus or buy a iphone. But don't start complaining about one over another. Because most people aren't and most people are happy with whatever phone they get.

So for all you whiners that make up 10% of the revenue (seriously, you do...you are cookie crumbs) . How about you make like a tree...........AND GET THE F*** OUT OF HERE. (f*** leaves)

Wow, you really told us off. Always nice when an "intelligent" adult must resort to 4-letter words and random insults to make a point.

P.S As is, I dont think custom backgrounds look that great on the iphone, work much better on Android. Too many icons on iphone UI it just looks cluttered with a colourful background most the time.
Plus the background actually "moves" a bit, the icons and wallpaper both shift when you swipe left to right, as opposed to just a static background (on even the iPad). Apple needs to freshen up the UI, for me at least.

Interesting. I haven't used any Android devices extensively but the zoom and pan is surprisingly choppy and it's really odd the way the pinch zooming doesn't track with the fingers the way the iPhone implementation does. I guess you could make arguments for one approach over the other, but it looks a lot less polished than Apple's.

I would say that just from taking a look outside, that customisation and having things how YOU like them, does matter to people. Maybe not tech features like multitasking beyond ipod and the net... but choosing what colours you like having around you most people can manage and prefer I think. You obviously dont judging by all the LOUD NOISES BLEHGHGH!!!!!!

The current Nexus One doesn't support AT&T's 3G band but one may be on the way.

Thanks for the link. I personally like Google GPS feature, may be this is what gets Jobs worried. Unfortunately, there is no map company up for grabs. Also, in contrast with iPhone offerings you do not need to pay fee every year to update maps which I find very irritating, especially when you have 3-4 GPS units. This alone makes these phones priceless for me.
If Nexus supports tethering like any other ATT 3G phone/smart phone. There will be no stopping me.

No, just imitating Dammit Cubs and his childish rant against me.

PDAnet may interest you. I've not used it myself so I can't say how well it works! It has a 4 star+ rating in the Android Market.

You just have to speak salesman lingo :)

He also said, "It works like magic. You don't need a stylus. It's far more accurate than any touch display that's ever been shipped. It ignores unintended touches, it's super-smart."

Which roughly translates to "To a non-engineer, it's magic. You can't use a normal stylus. It's more accurate than anything we've shipped before. The software watches for movement after you touch, so it'll scroll instead of registering a click."

So when he said, ""We filed for over 200 patents for all the inventions in iPhone, and we intend to protect them.", then perhaps his "we" included patent applications from every chip maker and radio technology they used.

No more ridiculous comments by apple worshippers...

Looks like the trolls have went to sleep...

I guess your all for stopping innovation.

The fact that there are a multitude of phones using some sort of touch and gestures demonstrates that all the whiners about how "patents stifle innovation" were (and are) full of it. It was never true and never will be. Just the opposite.

No, just imitating Dammit Cubs and his childish rant against me.

it may be a childish rant but its better than reading a broken record for the past 3 years of the stupid complaints people have.

When it comes down to it. It's true. Of all iphone sales, you whiners make up 10% and as far as apple is concerned, they have proven that their OS meets the satisfaction as you can see from the iphone sales.

Only reason, Andriod is getting momentum is only by volume. Since Android is an OS and can be made my multiple companies across multiple carriers.

But seriously, stop whining about the stupid multitask, themes and whatever you want to throw at it. Understandable if some of you changed devices because of this reason (do i think its stupid for you spend 500 dollars for a change you rarely will use, yes) but thats your money and as a consumer you are technically "right". But for majority of people here, if you don't like your iphone (assuming thats what you have), then stop complaining about it and move to a different phone. This isn't rocket science, if I don't like something, I don't stand around reading and commenting on every message board...thinking change will happen because you rant about on some boards. Do something about it?

As a consumer, if this is a big issue, you should see a decline in sales for the iphone in which Apple is forced to change their business model to best fit the needs of the consumer. In this case, they aren't. They feel that those changes you ask for (excluding the whole themes thing which should be easily done) takes away from the user experience and even if it is your experience to decide. For 90% of the users, they don't know the different. For most users, they don't know how to optimize their batteries and do techniques to fully use their device. Instead, most consumers will just complain about something thats very logical to explain. It doesn't matter to them. So imagine if Apple were to create a device that does background tasks and thus it drains the battery completely. It doesn't matter if Google was able to do it right. If you feel that way. Change phones!! If you don't like something, you don't continue to keep using it. You change it. More importantly, for a consumer that goes on message boards and knows exactly what he/she is getting it. Shame on you, you knew all along what you were getting yourself into.

So as I said. 90% of iphone users don't really care. All they care about is dropped calls and ATT's perception of bad network (this is completely dependent on area, even if majority is plagued). So you will always be in the minority so if you aren't happy...whats the slogan again...CHANGE Phones.

Okay so you changed phones. You are not happy with iPhones. ...It brings up another question? Why are you looking up a topic on MACRUMORS!!! (HENCE MAC) about a topic related to google...complaining about the iphone's limited characteristics. Why are you on these boards from the start?

Oh right, you're just like me. The internet is full of douches (including myself) all you really care about is voicing your opinion to an audience that doesn't really care. For that matter, everything i'm writing here is a waste of my time, energy and its not like you really care. But I'll act like the 50 million stupid internet bloggers who feel like just having a keyboard and reply button makes you feel like you can complain about everything life has to throw your way.

If thats the case i'll just continue my childish rant with.

Lets keep it going:

But teh flash! It suxxorz and crashes on the slow, buggy nexus poo.(even tho it isn't out yet)

iPhone did it in 2007! (
Except for mms, copy and paste, app store, tethering and so on.... :D

I Have a macbook pro, and I had a 3GS... Like some people.. they dont worship everything apple makes! So its ok for people to be on macrumors because its not called iphonerumors.

And like I said earlier you rant and rave about iphone sales... but its a spec of dust on the dirty window of the cell phone world... iphone is that 10% smartphone around the world!

Only in the USA does marketing trump features and usablity.. which is sad but true... Apple will make you believe anything they want... doesnt mean its true!

People just love to bash Apple.
....
NOW, if Apple would have added pinch-to-zoom to the iPhone and a Google phone had it in 2007, then all hell would have broke loose. Apple would have been bashed for being "late to the party," etc.

You forgot that folks would bash Google mantra "do no evil" as being crap for requesting Apple not to provide a quality user experience for their customers.

Glad the SEC/DoJ are on the ball again not promoting market restrictive collusion between companies.

As much as Apple perhaps doesn't want to admit it, they are a large company now. With lots of other large tech companies they are going to bein coop-petition. One some products/services they are going to compete and on others they are going to cooperate on. It is part of being an adult, large tech company.

For example they design their own CPUs now and buy them from Intel. The Microsoft thing is rather obvious... even to Apple. HP makes printers that need to work well with Mac and laptops that compete against them. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
