I don’t follow MKBHD logic about the idea of a Pixel Fold being incompatible claiming that the Pixel brand is known for being budget conscious, not entering the premium market. I’m like.. hello? Pixel Pro XL is a premium phone.
Agreed…the promise for the video’s title made no sense. He says the ‘idea of a Pixel is it’s a ‘super smart phone’. Well, the P10PF has all the smarts of every other Pixel. It is also hardware with a premium build…displays, battery, qi2 with magnets, durability are arguable better than most/all other foldables. What it doesn’t have—supreme thinness, lightness, and top of the market CPU mean yes, it’s lacking in those areas if that’s important to you.
I don’t do anything especially challenging for my smartphone’s CPUs (feels like gaming is where this deficiency really shows itself) but I can appreciate why this is important for some people. Same goes for thin and light. I’d love a phone as thin and light as the Z Fold 7…if it also had the qi2, durability (IP68) and longer battery life of the P10PF. If having thin and light means I have to forgo those features, then I’ll take a bit thicker and heavier, for the time being. They’re big reasons why I didn’t grab a Z Fold 7 and am waiting for my P10PF.
MKBHD specifically says the hardware isn’t premium in any way, specifically speaking to the size/weight and this is where he’s simply not correct. Not being thin and light doesn’t mean it’s not premium. Pixel 10 Pro XL and iPhone Pro Max phones are certainly not thin and light—are they also not premium?
He also keep referring to it as a $2K foldable…it’s not. It’s $1799, one of, if not, the cheapest in the US market and it comes with $300-$350 deals (gift cards, store credits, etc). Expecting it to give you ‘the absolute max’ with the hardware isn’t exactly fair considering pricing.
I’m obviously a bit biased towards the P10PF as it’s the device I’ve chosen but I’m more-so trying to illustrate the reasons why one would chose it. It’s far from perfect but I don’t think there is the perfect foldable yet. His review just seemed a bit slanted towards his own desires in a foldable.
