Went to T-Mobile today to switch over from AT&T and get a Pixel 10 Pro but they are sold out and I couldn't even order one. Well a 256gb phone that is. So I ordered a moonstone 10 Pro from Google. Can't wait to get it and set it up.

It’s here… but…
Have a slight problem already. Porcelain isn’t the old porcelain of white back and silver rails. It’s now a creamy back with a gold / champagne trim. Not what I expected or wanted.

If I’d have known that I’d have just gone for Jade but the gold edges put me off.

The colours this year are so bad man.

What are your first impressions? Are the buds noise cancelling good?

I haven’t tried the buds yet.
It took ages to set the phone up but once it was done and I was using it I just wasn’t feeling it? 😦.

Not sure what’s happening to me but I just seem to prefer using an iPhone at the moment. The reason I decided to pick this up was just down to that amazing offer. £725 (using my already accrued store credit on other purchases) for the 10 Pro plus Buds is insanely good.

But I just like my iPhone more. I have had some niggles with the 17 Pro more than my 16 Pro I was using before upgrading. Things like losing signal and the phone not connecting to mobile network when out and about and some hiccups here and there. But I love the design and the pixel just feels a bit cheaper to me. Hard to explain.
Like the speaker sounded quite bad just for notifications going off. A bit echoey / tinny? Not sure.

Either way, I do still love android and pixels but I think I’m pretty much an iPhone guy at the minute.

I can totally relate to that, I’m an iPhone guy too. I do love the look of the Pixel and the ecosystem seems great, although i don’t think any ecosystem will beat Apples. It doesn’t mean i don’t enjoy seeing other devices, i have a S24 Ultra as my Android device to tinker about with.

To me Apple seem to be different over the last few years, i can’t put my finger on what it is tho. I’ve stuck with my iPhone 15 Pro Max, yet in previous years i was upgrading every year.

The Pixel seems to be as close to an iPhone as you can get, but with Android. I could be wrong as I’ve not used a Pixel for a long period of time.

The iPhone is really good this year. I find myself more drawn to it as well. Still prefer the camera on the Pixel though.

Yeah I haven’t even bothered comparing the camera but I have also always preferred pixel camera to iPhone. Every time. I’m sure it would be the same here.

I think android is lacking a bit of polish that iPhone has kind of caught up on.
Like the icons. Some in stock form just look bad. I know you can change them but I am a stock guy. Having icons that are tiny with a big white circle around them just looks bad.

In addition, the themed icons are still not system wide on android. I think that may be an app own issue but could be wrong. At least with iPhone if you choose glass icons they are ALL glass. Even my widgets match it like my car one etc.
it just shouldn’t be happening on android IMO. It’s these little things that add up.
Also, the widgets themselves needs more options. We’ve had the same clock and weather widgets since like pixel 6. Give us something else to choose from for crying out loud. Same with battery widget. Been the same one for years.

I think the biggest issue I have is that it’s stale to me now. Not generally, as newbies to pixel could pick it up and love it. But I think it’s felt the same same now since pixel 6 for me with just incremental software improvements. But there are still glaring issues like the lack of removing the at a glance. Please for the love of god no one say use an alternative launcher. I do not want to and I shouldn’t have to change the whole launcher to gain a basic function.

Just some work to do with it I think and I also think I’ve maybe spent too long on a pixel that the iPhone with its much better customability now versus previous years of the same old stuff is very welcome.

I completely get this feeling. I’ve switched over to my Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Pixel Watch 4 for this year/product cycle and while i’m finding it a better overall experience than my attempts in the past to switch over to Android, it still lacks the top to bottom polish and still feels like extra work to get things to function with near the seamlessness you find living in Apple’s world.

I’m committed to sticking it out because 1) I feel like Apple is disappointing me in so many areas and I’m trying to speak a bit with my wallet, 2) the ‘AI’ software experience and adjacent features are much better on Pixels (Gemini), and 3) I love the folding phone experience and can’t go back to a simple candybar style smartphone.

I’m trying to compile a more comprehensive review of my experiences with the P10PF and Pixel Watch 4 and will try to share after putting a few weeks of time in with both.

I already can’t wait to read. 🙂

Yeah it’s an odd feeling as someone who has always loved and preferred Pixels. I think, though, they are phones that live with you a bit better in the long haul. So when you start to see the benefits of things like Now Playing, the much better AI and assistant integration, call screening etc it all equates to a positive user experience.
That’s not taking into fact things like a markedly better keyboard, a cursor you can literally select to go ANYWHERE on a wall of text you have typed which is impossible on iPhone, better haptics etc.

But I’m still left a bit cold… the more I’ve used the pixel the more I’m enjoying it and I’ve said in the past I could happily live with either an android or an iPhone. But I just prefer my AirPods 2 over any android headphones so far (didn’t try the buds pro 2 as don’t want to open if likely going to be returned), the integration with Apple Music (Dolby atmos), the generally much more polished widgets and customisation experience and stellar battery life and build quality.
It’s almost like which one has more importance.

Anyway, here’s some pics of the P10 pro. And weirdly, in this kitchen light the gold accents are hardly noticeable.

I agree with the at a glance widget but I also want to get rid of the search bar in the homescreen.
I could do it with an alternative launcher but I like my phone to be minimal without anything unnecessary.

I disable lots of the Google apps as well as I never use them.

Yeah see the Google search bar is like my most used thing when on android. Not a day goes by where I don't Google something. 😁

Got to say, the Pixel OS looks very polished.

I got my wife and son a 17 Pro Max and a 17 Pro Friday and they are pretty nice. When I get my Pixel if I'm not super pleased with it I will consider an iPhone.

Yeah I read similar. Hoping so.
Agreed…the inconsistency is irritating. Micosoft is especially guilty as you’ve pointed out. I have 3 of their apps on my home screens and they’re 3 of the 4 that don’t adhere to the theming applied. Drives me nuts.

My other biggest gripe is autofill across the OS. It is so inconsistent and buggy. I can go to the same app or website on different occasions and sometimes it offers my 1Password suggestions, other times no dice. Hell, there are plenty of times where I go back to the username or password field on the same page and the autofill options that were once there initially just disappear. Autofill filling name, phone numbers, addresses never works. There are plenty of times where I had to go into Chrome or OS autofill settings and just toggle my preferred option on and off to get the behavior to correct itself yet it never persists. And having the option to use multiple autofill sources simultaneously on iOS is so useful. If it wasn’t for the ability to just have 1Password open in multi-window on my Fold to manually pull my password, I might’ve called it day already.

Same goes for the autofill of codes received via messages for 2FA. On iOS they just automatically fill in 999/1000 times–they’re even pulled out of my email client when that’s how they’re received. On Android, I have to hit the little copy option in my messages notification if it shows at all.

And before anyone comments that it’s just a glitch on this devices—-it’s been the same on the last 3 folds I’ve used which have all been set up fresh.

Those are my biggest gripes, but I’m coping. 😜
