Is the phone as fast with Niagara as with the stock launcher? I'm kinda lazy so I don't really want to set up another launcher but Niagara looks so good.

So I've got a problem. The screen is staying dim. The screenshots are after I restarted it just now in my living room. Seems like it's been doing this all day and possibly yesterday evening.
I've rebooted it twice but it's still staying dim. Any of you had this issue?

No issues here but tick off the adaptive brightness and reboot, wait a little bit on reboot adjust brightness and then turn on again, it's supposed to learn from your habits when you slide the bar when it's on

I still seep a Pixel 5 (not a typo!) as a backup and travel phone. Physical SIM cards are still the way if you go to some Eastern European countries. Plus I love the P5's size, weight, and screen size. Add one of those original P5 cases and you get the best feeling phone I've ever used.

I've been toying with the idea of upgrading to the Pixel 9a or the 10 but the Pixel 5 is still working great. I keep hesitating, put the upgrade on the back burner, and then change my mind.

I keep my phones in stock condition. No third party launchers for me. That's the beauty of Pixels - as close to vanilla Android as you can get.

So Google sent me a 40% off coupon for being a Premium subscriber, which I used to order a 10 Pro Fold and... WOW. As somebody who hasn't used Android for the better part of the past decade or so, I'm VERY impressed.

If this is what we have to look forward to with Apple's foldable next year, I'd say we're in for quite a treat. And yes, I know the Z Fold 7 is thinner and lighter, with a better main camera, but I prefer the Pixel's overall design, MagSafe support, full IP68 water & dust resistance, bigger battery, better speakers, as well as slightly wider outer display without being TOO wide (as the iPhone Fold renders make it seem it may be).

Interested to know more? What’s the weight like in the pocket?

It's actually lighter, and less bulky, than my 17 Pro Max with pretty much any case on it. It's genuinely a bit MIND-BOGGLING how we now have several foldables that have weights and dimensions very similar to standard candy bar phones that don't have the ability to open up into a mini tablet.

The OS is also buttery smooth, and I actually like using Gemini vs Apple Intelligence (which I've primarily kept disabled, as it just hasn't personally provided me with much value in its current iteration). I think I may also enjoy stock Android more than iOS, but the jury's still out on that as app parity is notably lacking.

Cameras are way better on the 17 Pro Max, obviously, but the ones on the 10PF are more than usable in most lighting scenarios.

Battery life is also MUCH better than I anticipated. And on par with the smaller Pro in my anecdotal experience, which I am more than happy about.

I've only had it for a few days though, so I still need to get more familiar with and truly LIVE with it. But based on initial impressions, especially at the $1079 price point I got it at with that 40% coupon, I am more than pleased with my purchase. And beyond excited to be living that foldable life, at least part time anyway.

My screen dimming issue has been resolved thanks to the suggestions above.
Also tried Niagara launcher and I'm not feeling it. I haven't deleted it and I'll probably play with it some more but so far I'm not sold.

Awesome that you for the dimming resolved and at least you have it a try though I would check more of its features if you do mess with it some more

I will try it some more to make sure I can or can't get what I want out of it. I think to truly use it I'm going to have to streamline some things which is the point I think.

Anyone use the Pixel Watch 4? if so how good is the battery life? and how is it with Fitbit compared to Apple's fitness offering? I'm just contemplating getting the Pixel Watch 4 and seeing how it works with the fitness aspect. My Apple Watch Ultra (1st gen) is good but the battery life is now degrading.

@Ludatyk just recently got a PW4 which he pairs with Fold 6 so maybe can add some insight

I have one (45mm). But I don't exercise, so not the best judge of that. Just using it for notifications, checking the weather, checking the time (weird, right?)... Stuff like that. I check my steps and heart rate occasionally, but fitness is not my goal. I just wanted something so I can leave my phone in my pocket more often. I respond to texts and delete emails. I don't sleep with it, so I pop it on the charger at night. But after 14+ hours wearing it, it is never below 90%, so I am probably killing the battery by charging it all the time.

I have a PW3 and I use it for outdoor walks. Seems to work ok. I know it's not a 4, but the generational gap isn't THAT huge. It works well for me. I seem to charge it fairly frequently though, so there's that. Hopefully the 4 fixes that.

I have the pw4 having used apple watch ultras and Garmin forerunners. For fitness Garmin wins hands down. The Fitbit app seems a bit meh tbh. Like the hourly activity of 250 steps when I could just don't to kitchen and back up and downstairs which you can't adjust seems odd to me.

Battery wise I sleep with it, I charge it when I shower before bed and again in the morning whilst I'm lying in bed deciding on when to get up 😂. It hasn't dipped below 70% yet. It's not a week long battery like my forerunner. It does smart watch stuff well.

The 2 big cons for me are

Garmin does the health stuff better than Fitbit imo and the heart rate transmission (I use zwift indoor cycling) seems not to react for the first 5 minutes of an exercise ie resting heart rate whilst virtually climbing a steep hill... This makes me question it's reliability and accuracy. I need to do more research I think

I switched to a PW4 for a few months along side my Pixel 10PF.

TL;DR - Doesn’t match up with the Apple Watch, regular series or Ultra.

It’s really nice smartwatch—the best I’ve used on the Android side (tried a Samsung GWU last year most recently). Battery life is really good and it charges really fast with the new charger. The screen is nice and bright as well.

Here’s where is ultimately fell down for me:
1) Apps. Won’t beat this dead horse but the app ecosystem just doesn’t compare. Many apps I use on Apple don’t have functional parity on Wear OS. And even some of Google’s own native apps have limitations on the watch (Messages and Tasks initially come to mind)

2) Performance. It just simply lags compared to Watch OS. Can’t tell you how many times it first, either takes multiple touches to launch and app or action or it just takes seconds for the transition after a tap.

3) Fitbit doesn’t match up to Apple Fitness and Apple Health. I was optimistic for the upcoming health assistant/guide, whatever Google was calling it but just couldn’t wait to see. Apple’s health guide feature is crap but the Fitness/Workout/Health apps and ecosystem are much better on iPhone/Apple Watch.

4) Complications are much better on Apple Watch. The choices are just so limited on Wear OS.

5) Not sure how to explain but I find quickly accessing apps and info much easier on the Apple Watch. For example, if I’m playing music or a podcast, running a workout, and have navigation going, everything is easier to quickly access on the Apple Watch. The watch just automatically surfaces this info with fewer touches or button presses. I didn’t realize ow much I like and rely on the widgets that scroll up from the bottom on the AW until I didn’t have them available.

I was wearing both an AW and PW for a few weeks and while looking a bit silly, it was really helpful highlight the pros and cons of each. So it’s probably quite obvious from this that I’ve put the PW away and switched back full time to the AW. Unfortunately it also meant moving my main number back into my iPhone.

Many don’t need more than basics from their smartwatch and I think the PW does that fairly well. I’m a bit of a heavy users and once you push past these basics, it just doesn’t keep up with the Apple Watch. I’m going to hold onto it for now to see how Wear OS changes over the year but a lot would need to change to get me to switch back at the moment.

Battery life is crazy gooooood on the Pixel Watch 4.... doesn't take long to charge, a quick charge can get you to 100%.

And I'm not really doing any lengthy fitness activity with my watch... I'm active when it comes to doing yard work, have a garden that I maintain. I'm big on moving and keeping myself active in an effort to complete my daily steps.... I sleep with the watch. So, I get a run down on how well I sleep as soon as I wake up... which is pretty cool.

And @tbayrgs lays out all it's negatives compared to Apple Watch... but there are some positives when it comes to wearing the Pixel Watch. You get the best assistant on a smartwatch... crazy amount of 3rd party watch faces available to you.

There's something traditional I like about having a circular smart watch... can't really put into words, but I like that. Haven't ran into performance issues... no lag for me.
