I like at a glance also. Having the option to remove it is a good thing for those who dislike it but I'm keeping it.

I've limited AAG in settings to just the calendar, it's fine. So, all I have on the main screen (besides the moon phase widget) is the bottom row of apps and search box. Might still toggle AAG off when that becomes available, we'll see.

I'm using a weather widget that seems to be more accurate than Pixel weather on my second screen, and with the gmail widget and app folders (I like the 5 row) it's working OK for me so far...

The last couple of Android releases aren't very exciting, aren't they?

I mean, yeah, the platform is very mature, and miles ahead of iOS IMO, but I miss the days where there were a bunch of nice new features useful in day to day, or maybe refining even more the UI, adding more personalization options, making notifications better, you name it.

I know it's just beta 1, but what's has been the best new Android feature of the last couple of releases? Desktop mode? 90/10 multiwindow? Can't think of much more.

Well, Google did introduced Material Design 3 and they are expanding Gemini AI.

Beta 1 is always boring. Just developer stuff like codecs and such. Nothing even a power user would notice. Should start taking shape around April. That said, Google usually saves the best stuff for themselves in a separate update, so 17.0 might still be pretty boring because they need to just get it done and out the door for Samsung's Z Fold 8 lineup this summer.

Is anyone using Desktop mode on the 10? Am typing in it now on the 8 Pro, and overall it is working quite fine. I was compressing a 4K video project while working within Firefox and watching video on the phone screen at the same time.

I am honestly quite tempted for the "True Pro" feature of being able to take my work to a larger screen and do actual multi-tasking when traveling for work.

Being able to travel with a work laptop, work phone + Personal phone (only) is tempting to me. Currently I travel with 2 phones, 1 laptop and usually my iPad Pro to have both work and personal computing is a bit much.

Fun trick at Courtyard hotels, roll the mini table under the desk to a spot in front of the TV, use the TV as an external monitor on an iPad, or android phone for a decent desktop experience on the go.

Has anyone had the noise canceling on their pixel buds pro 2 fail? Mine did and after an hour and a half google are replacing em. I'm grateful that they are replacing em, but the senior staff really made life difficult for the rep I was web chatting with.

Tomorrow should be the day the 10a gets official. Hopefully some more surprises than what's been leaked.

I haven't had any issues with mine thankfully but I don't wear mine very often.

Google is touting a 30 hr battery life for the 10a on a single charge. I seriously doubt that but we shall see.
I assume that claim is for their Extreme Battery Saver mode. Works good if you are in a pinch, but not how anyone would want to use their phone regularly.

Battery Saver:
  • Apps refresh their content, like email or news, only when you open the app
  • Location services stop when your screen is off
  • Apps don’t run in the background
  • Your phone doesn't listen for 'Hey Google' and can't continue a conversation
  • Dark theme turns on, wallpaper dims
  • Notifications delayed
  • 4G prioritized over 5G
Extreme Battery Saver also adds the following:
  • Most apps pause, paused apps won’t send notifications
  • CPU slows
  • Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning turn off
  • Screen timeout drops to 30 seconds
  • Hotspot/tethering stops
  • Left-most home screen is paused

Agreed, it goes to show how numbers can be misleading as I will refrain from saying they are lying. To put battery life in perspective, if I leave my Pixel 9a on idle it will drain around 8-9% in about 12 hours.

My OnePlus 15r after 24 hours on idle will be at the same percentage prior to those 24 hrs.
