9a vs 10a did I miss anything?

Key Differences to Consider
Charging Speed: The Pixel 10a offers a major boost in charging, supporting 45W wired charging, nearly doubling the 23W speed of the Pixel 9a.

Durability: The Pixel 10a is marketed as the "most durable" A-series yet, upgrading its screen protection to Gorilla Glass 7i from the aging Gorilla Glass 3 found on the Pixel 9a.

Software: Shipping with Android 16, the Pixel 10a starts its 7-year update cycle a full year later than the 9a, offering longer long-term support.

Key Display Enhancements
Peak Brightness: The Pixel 10a reaches 3,000 nits, making it the brightest screen ever in the Google A-series. This allows for better visibility when using the phone under harsh afternoon sun.

Real-World Performance: While the "peak" numbers are for small areas of the screen (like a bright spot in a video), the HDR brightness (the level the whole screen can maintain during HDR content) has also jumped from 1,800 to 2,000 nits on the Pixel 10a.

Has anyone noticed that their battery estimate is way off? It's lasted me since 7am this morning and I doubt it will burn through the final half of the battery in the next 5 hours...

Yes I noticed that too. On my Pixel 9a I have watched the battery drain from 100% to 78% with about 15-20 minutes screen time and somehow it tells me that my screen time is over an hour since the last charge. That's pretty useless to me or as you peeps across the pond like to say, "not fit for purpose".

There's no battery drain, but based on current usage is expect it to last until mid morning... Well later than that as I am off to bed now.

Do you think the 10a is really the best midrange device in the market?

iPhone 16e and 17e would be great if they only had 120hz and brighter screens. Just for that, the 10a is ahead in my book, but the chip is worst than most midrange device with Qualcomm or Mediatek chips.

Also, those bezels around the screen are huge.

If you add up the 120Hz refresh rate, 7 years of support, solid battery life, excellent camera, Google launcher, then yeah, it's hard not to say it's the best in the group, especially if you can get it at launch with a discount. On top of that, there's the $100 store credit.

I went back and changed my order. I decided on the 10a Fog, Pixel Buds 2a Fog and 10a case, Fog. Out the door with tax $448. I took the free buds instead of store credit and they had another promo, $10 off the case if you buy the phone. That's a pretty stout deal.

Forget the above. I got an even sweeter deal. Google gave me $305 trade in for my iPhone 13. So out the door with everything listed, 10a, Buds 2a, 10a case $122. 😵

It's a good phone. At that price point, I might consider the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE too, which is $449 on sale right now.
That's a bigger phone at 6.7". My problems with Samsung are: They are slower than Google with their OS updates, though much, much than in the past. I seriously dislike their double apps i.e. Samsung and Google and what I consider bloatware such as Microsoft apps I don't want. That said, they make good hardware, it's just the other trade offs I dislike.

That's a good phone to recommend as well. My friend has the s21 FE and has been running with it with updates and everything smoothly. Samsung does a much better job nowadays. And of course you can't go wrong with that new Pixel

It's a good thing I tried several phone trade in options because Google phones paid out for less than my iPhone 13. Since Apple decided they would discourage its users to stay on anything but iOS 26 because an iOS 18 user will not get anymore updates. The only path is iOS 26 if the phone is on the list for the latest iOS.

So I begrudgingly updated my iPhone 13 and there was a performance hit although not as bad as with the initial release. I'm not an iPhone person but prefer Android so it was an easy choice to use it as a trade towards the 10a.

Ended up ordering a 10a for my mum.
Had a £50 discount code, £150 trade in for her 6a, and I had £199 in store credit from my 10 Pro purchase last year.
Also picked up the Pixel Buds 2a for the £64 pre-order bundle offer. Comes to £164 in total.

I've kinda been looking into the Pixel a bit, one thing Android seems to have over Apple is more features for less of a Price. I am curious how group chats work with the Google Pixel, when you switch from Apple to Android, if it preserves your presence in already existent group chats.
