I must admit, Google is really onto something here! That phone is so amazing and unique.. and innovative! Give them the phone of the year award! This is really a design accomplishment!

.....

......

-falls over from exerting too much sarcasm-

I feel like the same people who have been busy designing "crossovers" have decided to get in to designing phones. If this is the Google Pixel 3, it looks like a silver Prius at Trader Joe's on a tuesday afternoon, before it goes to the yoga studio of course.

It appears to have no redeeming qualities. There's a notch, but still a large screen bezel. There's no headphone jack, but the phone is huge (and it has a bezel). The camera looks to be a run of the mill model with nothing special. It has a regular fingerprint sensor on the back, nothing new there. Everything they're doing with that phone has been done to death already. What's the point? Does it come in colors other than beige?

I get making a generic phone. This phone is offensively generic.

Love it or hate it, Apple again set the design motif for smartphones. Samsung may be the only flagship maker who hasn’t copied the notch.

I bet Samsung has internal, engineering devices with notches ready to go. For now they can milk the marketing on not having a notch but with this crazy phone market they could also be negatively perceived as being behind by not having one.

I’m amazed at how many manufacturers are copying the notch yet they still have a large bezel / chin on the bottom of the phone. Totally misses the point of it all.

The reason for the notch is one of necessity when designing a display that reaches all four corners of the device and having nowhere to house sensors & camera.

You're right. Huwaei, I believe had released a notchless phone, with a chin. The chin housed the camera and speakers. It was a tad silly when I saw the phone. The chin could easily have been the, well, forehead, but the "upright" position as determined the camera made the section with the front camera a chin.

It looks like a massive Phone, but if I wasn’t with the iPhone, honestly I would choose the Pixel three as my alternative. I think it Offers a lot and it looks like a solid phone, assuming they resolved the issues with the LG displays this year.

While I don't necessarily find the notch distracting, I still do not like it. I wish Apple allowed users to choose to make the background around the notch black and permanently display signal strength, time, and battery level.

I would much rather have a 16:9 area for app display with the top around the notch dedicated to device status and the bottom dedicated to contextual buttons.

I am sure someone already sells notch stickers. ;)

Pixel phones are never the prettiest girls in the party, but this one is particularly ugly.

That being said, they are great phones.

Google used to make Nexus/Pixel devices as a reference design for other manufactures to follow. Now, they're using Apple as their reference design...

Samsung didn’t follow suit. The Pixel is Google’s. Your comment will be perfect when Samsung releases a phone with a notch. So far they haven’t.

I can see how you understood that wrong , that was meant for Samsung because now they can’t follow suit and if they do it will be a back fire on them.

Reason why I think mocking your competitors to sell your phones is not a good tactic when you can’t sell your phone based on it’s own strengths. It also limits future choice.

Wow, this is .. wow. They got the geometry of it all wrong. This really proves how carefully Apple designs every aspect of their products; the dimensions and curvature of the notch on the X are smooth and modern and make it flow into the geometry of the device. I remember reading that they went down to the level of scrutinizing the exact angle and slope of each of the curves and slants involved. Here you can see the polar opposite from Google. Just a giant rounded-rectangle cutaway with no regard to aesthetics. 'Chop out about this much, that'll do'.

Ugh...thats one ugly ass phone. That chin...thats a Jay Lenno Chin...I get the notch. I dont like it but i get why its there...physics...cant have a camera with a screen infront of it... but that chin just kills it imho!

Why would Samsung follow suit? The Galaxy S9 has a higher screen-to-body ratio than iPhone X.

Where’s all them notch haters now? Can we mock the Android fan base for being late to the party.

Yup and definitely worse than the X and I'm pretty impartial to either iphone or Android. Technically I still prefer android as a operating system but grouped notifications in ios 12 pretty much play catch up. Home screen and siri still need a lot of work though. Auto arranging icons top left is a forever annoyance for me. Maybe even more so than a notch. ;)

Android on the hardware side seems kinda sad now. Guess I have a good reason to hold on to my X for a while.
