While I don't necessarily find the notch distracting, I still do not like it. I wish Apple allowed users to choose to make the background around the notch black and permanently display signal strength, time, and battery level.

I would much rather have a 16:9 area for app display with the top around the notch dedicated to device status and the bottom dedicated to contextual buttons.

I liked my LG V10 for understanding that. They had a second display that was inline with the front facing sensors and it could be used to extend the normal display by dedicating all the notifications to the second display up above. It was brilliant.

What an ugly phone. I thought the iPhone X was not that pretty when it was released, but man, it's a beauty. Especially compared to this phone...

Notch and ....Is that a dongle!?! No 3.5mm what are they going to hate on iPhones now for?

Has anyone seen how Android 9/9 betas have handled the notch on an Android phone?

Would love to know how the UI elements and apps handle the notch on Android side vs iOS and its apps on the iPhone X.

Last fall: "I hain't a-buyin' me none o' them thar iPhones with that ugly notch. I'm buyin' me a Android."
This fall: "Hey, look at that thar innovative notch on them Android phones. It's bigger'n Apple's. I'm a-buyin' me a Android." :):):)

"TouchID + the Hardware Home Button" is a FAR SUPERIOR combo product attribute than the newer Alternative !

The iPhone 8+ could go down in History as the last really good iPhone (esp in RED).

Time will tell.

These notches are kinda like the 80's Mullet haircut; May be popular for a period of time, but will eventually go down in history as an awfull design solution.

Notch + chin makes no sense. The lack of the chin on the iPhone X justifies the notch. It's amazing how desperate even the biggest companies are to copy Apple.

The chin is there for the second front face stereo speaker. I'd take that over the downfiring secondary speaker iPhones have... that's as stupid as putting a charging port on the bottom of a mouse.

The chin is there because the manufacturing needed to bend the OLED is expensive. Google simply can't make that sort of investment and still be profitable, if this sells at all. Adding an entire chin to a phone just to move a speaker 1-2 mm when most people probably lay their phone flat during listening would be even dumber than the charging port you mention.

Where’s all them notch haters now? Can we mock the Android fan base for being late to the party.

We're still here and that phone looks even worse than the iPhone as not only does it have a notch but it has a huge chin too!

I’m pretty sure Apple weren’t the first to include a notch on their phone but given the amount of people who seemingly dislike it you’d think the competition wouldn’t follow Apple’s designs and incorporate it into their own; instead try and mock Apple (like Samsung)?

If this is the real deal it’ll be interesting to see the comments come October...

Wow, that thing is ugly, you can't have a notch and a chin. It's either one or the other. This is epic fail IMO. Even the Pixel 2XL looks better than this scrambled pie

I was sarcastic. Those curves on S9 serve no substantial purpose apart from distorting content.

While I have never had that issue myself with the 8/9 series (the S6 and S7 Edge were absolutely god awful with distortion), the curved display does take a little adjustment when handling the phone naked due to touching the screen accidentally.

I hope Google are trolling us with fake pictures because that's the ugly, although smarter, twin sister of iPhone X.

Still surprises me how these companies get away with just copying each others designs!

Even worse, this still has a chin

Why would Samsung follow suit? The Galaxy S9 has a higher screen-to-body ratio than iPhone X.

This claim cracks me up. It's not even all usable display and it sacrifices the structure of the phone.
