Wow, this is .. wow. They got the geometry of it all wrong. This really proves how carefully Apple designs every aspect of their products; the dimensions and curvature of the notch on the X are smooth and modern and make it flow into the geometry of the device. I remember reading that they went down to the level of scrutinizing the exact angle and slope of each of the curves and slants involved. Here you can see the polar opposite from Google. Just a giant rounded-rectangle cutaway with no regard to aesthetics. 'Chop out about this much, that'll do'.

For me I would have preferred if their careful consideration had lead them to use the smaller radius curves at the top of the notch for the bottom of it and corners of the display, ending up with more of an iPhone 5 look.and feel and making the status icons less crowded and awkward.

Notch only really acceptable with no chin personally...
Agreed.

"TouchID + the Hardware Home Button" is a FAR SUPERIOR combo product attribute than the newer Alternative !

The iPhone 8+ could go down in History as the last really good iPhone (esp in RED).

Time will tell.

For those of us who are now used to using the X, picking up those other phones feels antiquated.

Is the radius of the bottom corners really different from the top or is that just an optical illusion?

And does it really put a rectangular control bar over the bottom changing to square bottom corners when the controls are shown?

Can we talk about their "courage" to remove the headphone jack and include a dongle? No other company would ever dare to do that.

Also, rounded corners at the top, but sharp 90 degree corners at the bottom? So many decisions about this phone are terrible. Google needs to hire some designers.

The chin is there because the manufacturing needed to bend the OLED is expensive. Google simply can't make that sort of investment and still be profitable, if this sells at all.

If it sells at all? LOL. Apple made a stupid decision by removing the headphone jack and people still bought it. Don't you worry, it WILL sell, the chin doesn't affect the phone's experience as much as the lack of a headphone jack.

Adding an entire chin to a phone just to move a speaker 1-2 mm when most people probably lay their phone flat during listening would be even dumber than the charging port you mention.

Probably? You can't think of any scenario where someone would hold a phone and wanna have two front firing speakers? I've got a Sony XZ1 Compact that I absolutely love for audio... FOR THAT REASON.

You know who still cares about a headphone jack in 2018? People that are still screaming for floppy drives in their iMac.

I can see the double notch happening next to phones with a chin. Yuck.

Visual appearance of phones seem to be trending to ugly today IMO. As a side note, I saw a naked iPhone 5s or SE today and was reminded of how beautiful that phone was. I then proceeded to remove my iPhone 7 from its case and was quickly put off by the camera wart.

I know how some android fans detest the notch at the top, I wonder how they’re going to feel about having a notch and a CHIN at the bottom!!
They'll just bend over and take it in the rear from Google. That's what Android love is all about. It's true that Android users may have felt the notch was ugly, but they really just hated the iPhone for having a notch and that's an Apple hatred thing. They'll be able to overlook the notch now that it comes from Google. Many Android users will simply believe that Google invented the notched display.

If this was a Nexus branded phone the design would be wicked, because it would also be cracking value!
But this is a Pixel and will no doubt be very expensive, and at that level the design is incredibly poor, Google need to look around at the designs of premium phones because they don’t look like this!

Haha, the Pixel line sold 3.9M phones in 2017. No, they cannot afford it. You realize the Pixel doesn't have a headphone jack either, right? I am not sure what your point is there or why it was brought up.

I use mine every night with my headphones. Of course I don't use an iPhone because of that.

Oh, and I don't miss the Floppy or CD drive at all.

WTF is Google thinking? 3 straight years of stinkers now, I don't get their strategy or the purpose of the pixel lineup.
