That's a very clever design , I'm kinda tempted i won't lie

The "ugly" bezels are the price you pay for a well engineered product , unlike the z fold that's way too narrow and tall

And its not like the notch is particularly graceful either lol

Weight is a bit much for me though haha, but that size ...it's perfect

I get the allure: two devices (phone/tablet) in one.
I like my iPhone 14 Pro.
I like my iPad mini 6.
I don't want both, and they're bulk, in one device.
Zero interest in a foldable handheld.*

* that is, until Apple offers one.**
** $@!%
Not sure if this is self-mockery ?

You say you don't want both in one device due to the bulk, but you'd still buy it if apple makes one ?

I've had the Z Fold 3 and now the Z Fold 4 and I've loved both of them. I prefer the Pixel Fold's design with the wider and shorter cover screen than the ZF4 and I also prefer vanilla Android (Pixel 7 is my backup) so I will be ordering the Pixel Fold on launch day. I just hope the Pixel Fold has a feature similar to Samsung DeX. Between that and the Z Fold 5's apparent lackluster upgrades, I'm excited to try the Pixel Fold out. I'm not a fan of the main screen's bezels but I will get over it I'm sure. Worst case scenario, I don't like it and return it. I have a feeling I will end up keeping it though. To all of the Foldable haters out there, just wait until Apple releases one, if they ever do. A large percentage of you are going to change your tune immediately. Trust me, I had reservations as well, until I bought one. I owned every iPhone from the 4 to the 12 Pro Max, and I haven't regretted this decision one bit. Having a cell phone and mini tablet in one is amazing! Android has been more stable than iOS was in my use case. iOS has gone downhill drastically over the past 3 years.

Saw a Galaxy Fold for the first time IRL the other day. Literally could not believe anyone could use the thing with that massive crease down the center of the screen.
I have just moved from a 13 pro to a zfold 4, a price glitch on a 'like new' zfold (£599) helped the decision to buy. Using it for a few days has made me decide to move everything over and ditch my iphone.

I do not really notice the crease, our brains are remarkable at just ignoring things in our vision. Such as our nose, yeah its there if you want to see it.

As someone else pointed out earlier they hate it until Apple do it. When apple do a foldable I will be very interested in their 3rd version.

I paíd more than that for my 14PM in my country.
After 12 years of using mostly iphones, I think that will be next device… Apple innovation is pathetic. Who uses the 48MP camera to take RAW photos by now?. Useless sensor due to the useless decision in Apple that the 48MP can’t take non-raw photos!

I've been using the fold 3 since launch careless and I love it. You don't notice the crease overtime just like the notch on the iPhone and if you use it like a normal person looking straight at it you can hardly see it. It's only if you're looking at it at an angle when it sticks out.

Not for me. Bad aspect ratio.

That will hold true for me personally if Apple releases a foldable too.

I just want a 16 mini…

These images don't show the crease down the middle of the folding screen. False advertising?
It's like with those burger commercials/ads vs reality 🤣

Everyone who says they hate this style of phone will be an early adopter once Apple releases one.
When Apple released one, they will have the crease issue resolved. Right now people are basically paying beta testers, paying what over 1700 for a prototype makes little sense to me.

For me, "too narrow and tall" turned out to be an unexpected feature. Finally, after years of too wide phones and ever increasing screen sizes, I can securely and comfortably hold the Fold 4 and use it one-handed when the screen is closed.

Hate these phones with a passion! They are bulky, cumbersome and a waste of engineering hours. This is not the next best thing in mobile development but companies trying to force something on people like slightly curved screens from Samsung that sucked!! Hope Apple never goes this route.

Couldn’t agree more. I don’t get the hype/interest in foldable phones. I get the bigger screen when you unfold the phone, but if I need a bigger screen, I’ll use my iPad. But that’s just me. 🤷‍♂️

Bring back the flip phone! Oh, wait? You mean people aren't clamoring for that?
When trying to be funny backfires because segfaultdotorg isn't aware that interest for flip/dumb phones is up :p

The Pixel Fold will be introduced at Google I/O on May 10, and Google plans to market it as a device with the "most durable hinge" on a foldable smartphone, a claim that should prove particularly apropos given recent reports emerging of hinge problems across Samsung's foldable Z phone line. The device is expected to be priced from around $1,700, which is in line with Samsung's pricing.

With the Pixel Fold becoming available in June, Google will beat Apple to the foldable smartphone market. There are rumors that Apple has been experimenting with foldable iPhones, but the company could actually introduce the technology in the iPad first.
Who is this for if it’s $1700? Also there aren’t any foldable iPhone rumors, just some posters that think foldable phones are a trend that Apple hasn’t been interested in. There lies the problems between what Alphabet vs Apple wants you to use. Apple sells several products optimized for the way you use it, whereas Alphabet is just pushing their latest Android all in one. If foldable phones were so much the future why aren’t they selling for half that? :D

Same here. When I get AW with 7 days of AOD and foldable iPhone I will go back to Apple.

You could apply this same logic to a crack or a line of dead pixels in the middle of your screen—you don't notice it after a while!—but that doesn't mean it's a good experience. Actually those examples are probably better, since you can't physically feel them on the screen, unlike the crease.

I'll probably hate it until Apple does it for one simple reason—Apple won't do it until the tech is there, i.e. until they can make a folding screen that actually closes fully, without a crease, and that doesn't slowly detach within a year.

I had the Fold 1 & 2. After you use it a few times, the crease tends to be unnoticeable. It’s also really not that heavy at all and had so many practical uses. I was able to do all my work and everything on it, no problem. I moved to Apple at my husbands request (he’s a major Apple fan), but the fold was actually so much better than any iPhone I have had. (Yes, I will be switching on my next upgrade) I tried Apple and just don’t like it in comparison to the folds.

We can hate on foldable phones all we want, but only because there isn't one within our ecosystem that we can have. You probably don't want Apple's first gen on it either. But once the tech matures enough, this is ultimately the answer to the small phone/big phone dilemma.

I would guess Apple isn't doing this until they can get weight and folded dimensions to a highly marketable standard (e.g. "the thinnest expanding phone"). I would also speculate folding is not the priority - creases and gaps when folded are typically un-Apple design elements. I'd imagine they'll be all in on a scroll.
