For me, "too narrow and tall" turned out to be an unexpected feature. Finally, after years of too wide phones and ever increasing screen sizes, I can securely and comfortably hold the Fold 4 and use it one-handed when the screen is closed.
Hmyeah, one handed, except you can reach the top (nor the last 1/3rd of the screen tbh)

Looks pretty nice, good for Google, maybe they can spice up the Pixel brand, it alls feels a bit cringe lame lately.
Personally I’m not moving or extending to Android no matter how many times it folds, so good old iPhone for me until they make a foldable one or I get FOMO.

happy for those who want and can afford it ...
for me, way too thick when folded and I almost never put my phone in my pocket, using a belt holster

When trying to be funny backfires because segfaultdotorg isn't aware that interest for flip/dumb phones is up :p

Selling 10 instead of 5 is a real revolution.

People don’t even want to buy a unifold Pixel what makes them think bifold will be any different? Such a waste of engineering work.

”by 0.5” thin when folded” 😂 I’d rather carry two 0.25” thick iPhones.

For the past ≈ 5 years Apple has been releasing an iPhone that unfolds: we look at the presentation, thinking, "Uhm, okay", and then they unfold the price.

I am so excited to get this. I've wanted a folding iPhone for many years now. The only other time I left the iPhone was in 2013 for the Galaxy S4 Active because Apple was taking their sweet time with larger screens. No desire to leave iOS but slab phones are dead. Foldables are the future.

The compact outer screen, wide aspect ratio when unfolded, and pure Google experience are amazing features. The high price tag, lack of dust resistance, and ridiculous weight are obvious cons. But if you look at the Huawei Mate X3 you can see that foldables are going to be incredible in the near future. I do believe Apple will offer a foldable in 2 years time.
I dig the look of this too and will be contemplating getting it. I had zero interest in Samsung's Fold because I just don't enjoy Samsung's software, but I dig the Pixel's aesthetics and software, so I could be persuaded. Will all depend on how commensurate the camera performance is with other Pixel devices and what the price ultimately ends up being.

You know, a device that literally lets you have any screen of any size you want in front of you, not just a small one and a slightly less small one.
Interesting. Somehow, your quotes are mis-credited. I wrote the one that was credited to @mjschabow. Anyway...

Like I wrote earlier, I get the allure. I'm just not sure that I am interested in such a device. For me, it will come down to convenience vs. bulk. I'm not looking for bulkier-than-iPhone-14-Pro in my pocket any more than I'm looking forward to the return of cargo pants (which, I'm not and yes, I realize they are returning, somehow - as are pleated pants ffs). 🤪

I'm still not convinced Apple will go the foldable route. Yes, I know foldable are out there, and some rave about them. But most don't. The climate feels primed for the classic Apple to step into a segment adnn remain what it means to have a multi-sized handheld. While fold has proven an obvious line of thinking, I can't help feel Apple will surpass folding in favor of something like scrolling. More like a scroll, less like a book. Maybe a handheld that unrolls can adequately address y bulk and screen crease concerns? No clue. Regardless, it's why I added the footnote in my reply. If anyone can make me consider a foldable handled, it will be Apple. I reserve the right to wait and see what they have to offer - when/if they decide to get in the game. We shall see. 😜

To be fair, my Z Fold 4 is more comfortable in my pocket than my 12 Pro Max ever was, because it isn't nearly as wide. And no, I would never wear skinny jeans so that's not the issue. To each their own though. There's no one size fits all when it comes to cell phones. Rollables will have their day but I think we are at least 3-5 years out from being able to make them water resistant, let alone dust resistant.

This actually looks great but IPX8 just isn't good enough because its not dust proof and the number one enemy of that hinge is your pocket lint.

Samsung's phones might not fold flat when closed but they do have an IP68 rating which to me makes them more valuable.

google Will make a folding phone and a non folding phone. Samsung make a folding and a non folding phone. Their customer have a choice. Apple fans don’t ! They even took away your small phone. If it not your thing spend your money on a gen 1 head set cause that going to make a fold look less of a joke !

Both the Flip and Fold 4 are rated IPX8.

I’ll be interested when someone releases a liquidphone that can morph into any shape or size and then fit comfortably in my pocket.

Introducing the Amoeba account from Apple. We couldn't give you a phone, but we took your idea and decided to give you a bank account that morphs into a credit card, savings, checking, or mortgage account, all with one number.
