I found it funny, not because it was true. I can’t find humor in the chip name? Besides, I thought my patent comment made it pretty clear that it was humorous. Chill.

Google Pixel has a much more useful camera for real life situations. iPhone is hit or miss, but does better videos all day. If I wasn't stuck deep in the Apple ecosystem, I would get a Pixel phone solely for the camera. We have friends and relatives with Pixels and when we go to events, we all share the pics. They steal our videos, we steal their photos for the most part.

We went for a night time sensory show in the woods with lights and sounds. We did not get 1 usable picture and had to keep disabling night mode. Kids don't hold still long enough. Literally out of 50-75 pictures between two iPhones, not one useable picture of people. Our Pixel carrying friends had almost no bad pictures. It's a huge difference.

They both can play movies, run maps, get e-mail, surf the web, and listen to music. Only one can take excellent pictures all of the time.

You failed to mention which _version_ of the phones they were. Were they all the latest models?

I think the custom SoC is mostly marketing BS to make it sound like they have their own processor, just like Apple. The number of phones they sell wouldn’t justify anything more than tweaking someone else’s job.
Also that helps them justifying the camera software features’ exclusivity: before it looked like they just kept them for themselves for no reason, now it will look like there’s hardware reason. Just like Apple did not to give some features to older iPhones owners.
Let’s be clear, I think the phone and especially the camera will be great but the custom SoC is probably mostly marketing.

This proves my suspicion. For some bizarre reason there are a multitude of Non Apple fans who cheer Google and slam Apple on an Apple fan site. I really don’t get the dynamic unless they are being paid to be here. Real Apple fans would never camp out on Android sites and definitely wouldn’t be signing up to comment. It makes no sense, because we prefer to use our limited time to learn about Apple.
That’s true of every apple site. It’s filled with Android fanboys bashing apple while falling all over themselves for any Android feature or phone. Meanwhile you see few if any apple users on android sites.

it makes me wonder if apple products are so great we don’t feel the need or energy to care about Android.

The Pixels are a couple years old, the iPhones are an 11 Pro and 12 Pro.
Seems odd as I would say top flagship iPhones have has better cameras than pixel for a few years now. That may change this year but I would say point and shoot iPhones have some of the most dependable cameras.

As someone who is a fan of tech in general and hangs out on sites and forums dedicated to Apple, Google/Android, Sony, Microsoft, and others, my experience is that there are lost fanboys bashing other products just about everywhere and Apple fanboys are no exception.

Hilarious how so many people call this ugly, while they’ve been dealing with a NOTCH for years

I don’t care how the back of my phone looks I buy a case for it anyway. Now there is no hiding that monstrosity on top of the iPhone. I have to see it everyday

I think it’s hilarious how many are praising this design (especially over at The Verge) when if Apple released a phone that looked like this everyone would be calling it fugly.

I have been a member here for a long time now. I wish I were getting paid to slam Apple.

Google today previewed its next-generation Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which are set to launch later this year. These are Google's new flagship smartphones, with a redesign that includes a rear camera bar and tons of other new technologies.

Google's Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be the first smartphones using Google's custom-designed Tensor SoC that was created specifically for the Pixel phones.

Google says that the Tensor chip is designed to process AI and ML models directly on the Pixel 6 phones, which will bring improvements to camera technology, speech recognition, and more. With the Tensor chip, Google says that voice commands, translation, captioning, and dictation will be much improved.

The Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch full-screen display with a 90Hz refresh rate, while the 6.7-inch Pixel 6 Pro has a 6.7-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Both phones are larger than the 2020 Pixel 5, which was a 6-inch smartphone, and have an in-display fingerprint sensor and a Titan M2 security chip.

Each of the new smartphones is available in three color combos with a rear camera bar setup. The Pixel 6 Pro is equipped with wide, ultra wide, and telephoto camera lenses, and the telephoto lens has 4x optical zoom capabilities. The Pixel 6 lacks the telephoto lens, but both phones have an updated sensor that lets in 150 percent more light.

A Material You user interface will provide what Google says is a "fluid" experience for the colors, camera, and form factor of the new device.

Several sites, including Gizmodo, The Verge, and Business Insider were able to either test out the Pixel 6 or speak with Google executives about its capabilities, so those reviews are worth checking out for those who want to know more about Google's upcoming smartphones. The Verge has suggested that this is Google's first true attempt at a "competitive flagship phone."

Google has not yet provided a release date for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, but these new smartphones will directly compete with Apple's upcoming iPhone 13 lineup featuring the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Pricing is not yet available, but the Pixel 5 that came out last year cost $699, so Pixel 6 pricing could start at a similar level.

Google is evil! Please do not support this atrocious enterprise anymore than is absolutely necessary!

Well, the iPad Pros are bigger than the other (contemporary) iPad models, right?

I agree that Apple markets the Pro devices as better, though. 👍
Right, but they didn't name them "Pro" because of the size difference.

Great idea to make your own chip! And using industrial design for a phone also sounds smart.
But it does look a bit weird with that huge camera bump on the back...

Good to see Google get back into the flagship game after the joke that was the Pixel 5. Love that ridiculous camera bump.

Do not expect this to start at $699, though.

Good point. I hadn’t thought of that.
My 6P back in the day had a similar visor design. The soft case I had was super-thin and covered the visor except some cutouts for the cameras, flash, etc.

Although, I do think a case that lets the visor poke through would look rad. It would only need to have reinforced rails along the visor edges to do the job, so I don't think it's that crazy of an idea.

Some of us love both!
