Google should just rip gmail, Gmaps, google search, and youtube from apple iphone/ipad... that will teach them a lesson!

Apple has more to lose in the pissing match than google or HTC does!

That won't teach anyone anything. Google loses. Apple loses, but only temporarily. Dollars-to-donuts Apple easily has a "Plan B" for this possible scenario. If you think Google can hurt Apple like this in any way, shape, or form, Apple's deep pool of talent and their $40 billion spare cash says differently. The only way anyone can hurt Apple is to actually block the physical sale of Apple devices in Apple's major markets.

Google apps and software on Apple devices hardly drives the sales of Apple devices. The design, UI, OS, fit and finish of Apple's devices drive their sales. And of course, the App Store and all the developers that make it what it has become today (as in, huge.)

If the unlikely scenario occurs that Google pulls their toys from the iPhone, there are an ocean of developers and big name industry players who would kill each other just to develop whatever is necessary for Apple devices, if Apple doesn't do anything in-house. And chances are, their solutions will probably be more elegant. Google pulling out would actually be *good* for developers and would attract even more talent to Apple and the App Store.

Google doesn't have nearly as much leverage with Apple as people would like to think. Much of what Apple does is largely based around their own self-sufficiency, backed up by an ocean of ready-and-willing developers. Of course, there's Placebase, which we already know about.

Take the iPad. All Apple needs to do is get the UI, touch-capabilities, and the design right. That's it. The App Store is already there for leverage. The developers are already there for leverage. The publishers are already there for leverage. All the iPad has to be is an incredibly "cool" device. Which it is. Just make the coolest gadget on the block. Done. The rest takes care of itself.

You've proven my point if you read that whole paragraph and think steve jobs was talking about stealing from competitors as opposed to other areas of culture and the arts.

You had a point...?

No I believe that the interpretation of it can be as you described but I THINK that his 'stealing' point was a blanket one.

if you read iCon you will see he hasn't has 1 single original idea in his life, just buys others.....brilliantly..

lol, you have no clue.

well heeled choose iPhone..??

nope the people that choose iPhone..

1/ want to be seen as cool.
2/ want fart apps
3/ Don't care about audio quality

people who want a serious phone or business tool always buy something else.
Spoken like a true fool. There is nothing wrong with the iPhone or the platform.

I'm just parroting demographic statistics. These are what the industry and analysts have provided. You are, of course, free to not like them.

And this is why google is paying Apple billions of dollars to stay on the iPhone as a search engine? Ok

Where do people grab these number from?!! Billions... ahahah do some research and then compare that to the "other" mobile and desktop OS'es..

Iphone and safari is insignificant in the grand scheme of things

I don't think objective nob-biased statements and *LTD* go together like oil and water.

yes, never let the actual facts get in the way of a good story.

On another note, seeing as google's apps were some of the better early on apps, and that they dominate the PC world, i think they will be alright. Plus with RIM, Android and Symbian out there as alternative OS's i think google could sustain a complete embargo of apple's media phone aka iphone

The last thing Apple wants to do is get into it with Google. Google will win. At a minimum they should expose Apple's Antitrust behavior, you know the same behavior that Microsoft was beaten on for. Apple's turn now and they are worse. Apple should just fire the whiney bitch lawyers and start producing really great products that stand up against competitors instead of half-assed products that promote Job's crazy fascism and chintz on quality and features to string users along to have to buy the better one next year. It's sad Apple has come to this.

You are allowed to engage in that behavior if you do not have a monopoly.

All of this Google dumping iPhone/Safari talk doesn't do anything to the patent dispute so it's silly discussing it.

Google would be perceived as children if they did that IMO

The iPhone demographic: Richer, younger, better educated than other mobile users

Perhaps not a huge surprise, but a Forrester study (via the Denver Egotist) shows that the average iPhone user is more likely to be from generation Y (DOB 1980 onwards), college / University educated and richer than other smart phone users.

Also, as you’d expect given the user friendliness of the iPhone, they are much more likely to access the Internet via their mobiles.

And - good news for employers. According to Apple Insider, “The research suggests that an employee with an iPhone could be more productive:

“Those who carry Apple’s handheld device are more likely to stay connected to their employer’s network. Workers with an iPhone also usually leave their laptop at work, suggesting the phone essentially replaces the need for a traditional full-form mobile computer.”

Now back to the *actual* discussion . . . .

Well getting rid of all your hypotheticals, Google Service are important to the iphone NOW. Currently there isnt anything else and everything apple is debuting in the near future i.e. the ipad has google services on it... so there is NO indication that apple has a backup plan.. because if it did and it was better than having google services, then why keep them around?! as you said, they love "in house" solutions.. and even their "independant" devs work for them.

I just hope you are not saying that apple would feel the AFFECT... image you owning a iphone and apple puts an update that takes away your gmail app and google maps, and disables google sync...

You dont think there would be backlash?

You are allowed to engage in that behavior if you do not have a monopoly.

Microsoft didn't have a monopoly. Companies were always free to compete. Of course Sun and Oracle were crap competitors but that is their problem. And now Opera, a crap browser, sued so in Europe Microsoft has to offer a browser choice. I want to see the same ballot screen on Macs.

Right, and maybe they will file a separate suit against Google which covers a much bigger or different set of patents.

Or by going after HTC, they are trying to scare other manufacturers from supporting Google.

I don't know. your guess is just as good as mine.

You're speculating with a seasoned Patent Attorney. Good luck with that.

Did any of you actually watch the video?

You've taken that quotation completely out of context. Steve Jobs was talking about inspiration and the ideas Apple can leverage from its own pool of talent it brought together, not about ripping off other people's patents. As if Steve Jobs were even *capable* of saying such a thing. Here it is in full, and it's quite a brilliant quotation:

Ultimately it comes down to taste. It comes down to trying to expose yourself to the best things that humans have done and then try to bring those things in to what you’re doing. I mean Picasso had a saying - he said good artists copy great artists steal. And we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas, and I think part of what made the Macintosh great was that the people working on it were musicians and poets and artists and zoologists and historians who also happened to be the best computer scientists in the world.

If your going to quote someone why don't you actually watch the video and quote what they actually says. He never said, "Ultimately it comes down to taste." You also did not quote correctly the part where he says "We have always been, I've been shameless about stealing great ideas." But he caught himself after he realized he just put his foot in his mouth. Try watching the video again.

Fact is that Apple steals other peoples ideas AND tech, then they don't want to pay for them.

Nokia's GSM case in point. Everyone pays Nokia, why not Apple?

You are entitled to your own opinions, but you are not entitled to your own facts.

Well I understand the richer part, I mean iphone and service is not cheap.

Younger, I understand that part, apples marketing machine made it "cool" to have

Mor Educated, this is a interesting one, but it correlates to the richer part, chances are if you are "richer" you are also educated...

backlash against Google. yes.

They dont own a google phone, they own a Iphone... having backlash against google means nothing...

At the end of the day, user would be missing apps that were once their... and give apples controversal app approval and removal processes, users would assume it was another "apple decision" to remove said apps
