Looks nice! I like that it looks like it could be used without a case from the get-go. I don't know why but I also like the way the screen kinda pops out in the front. Nice to see the ram bump - should help with the future proofing.

I’m thinking about getting this or the 4a and trying one of the de-googled android roms like CalyxOS or GrapheneOS, and see how hard it is to get by on either open source apps, or at least ones that don’t require google play services to run

$699 is still too much for this. $599 would have really made this a hot seller like the Original Nexus phones. I suppose that’s what the 4a and 5a are doing, though. To me the 5A is the best deal. Same processor and 5G just with 2less gb of ram and no gorilla glass? Pretty sure it’s still water resistant just doesn’t carry the same level of it as 5.

now that chrome cast is looking nice for $50. Waiting for Black Friday when it goes on sale for $30-35.

Now that's a competitive price.

$699 - aluminum, 6" OLED, 90Hz, 128GB, sub-6GHz and mmWave

Maybe but the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G seems to be an even better deal (for those who don't mind Samsung), launched at same price but already discounts to $600 in some places.

Also for those using two sims at the same time it drops from 5G to 4G (DSDS mode), whereas the Samsung can use two sims simultaneously and 5G (DSDA mode).

The pandemic is there for everyone but apparently only Apple’s supply chain was affected to the extent of postponing their smartphone release. Coming from the biggest and richest tech company in the world I can only qualify this situation as ridiculous! Amateurish even...
Apple ships something like 40 million to 70 million iPhones each quarter, Google only shipped 2 million Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XLs in 6 months. Entirely different scale.

Amateurish would be to disregard the completely different scale of iPhone production.
