A circular screen is almost always form over function. I predict another Google fail here.
Round is a good design for a digital watch if it is only a watch. The challenge is once you get past the face and try to use it to display information you wind up with a lot of empty space or really odd looking ones. In addition, given the size limitations for a round face watch’s diameter, text has to be really small or you only see snippets and must scroll forever.I actually like the design a lot.
I wonder if a round watch would look bigger on the wrist than a rectangular one.
That would be poor human factor design, IMHO. Either it is very small area, making it hard to use, or so big you accidentally tap it. They could build it into the side off the casing, or as a bezel, but that would mean every time you touched the case, even accidentally, it would react; or you have a largish bezel around the face.I wish Apple would make a round watch. And instead of a crown, give us a jog wheel like the original iPod used. That's be fantastic.
I clipped this from a catalog years ago. Butt ugly.It looks like Luigi Colani got up from his grave just to do one final bad "design" with more curves than sense.

Maybe I am weird but I wouldn't be embarrassed to have an Apple Watch on in a wedding photo.Something you wouldn't be embarrassed to wear in a wedding photo.
So much happier with the Ultra.
FYI, if you have a M1 Mac or iOS device and don't know Japanese, you can translate that text by just highlighting it.
睡眠状態中心拍数乞追跡 = "Sleep state central beat begging"
Hey now...13 year old me would have killed for a system like that
Yep, didn’t see those images in the article. That is quite awful.![]()
Those are bezels
I love the design. If Apple had both the round and square form factor, I might go for the round design even though its less practical. Just for some competition I hope it's a good watch. It's a nice watch for Android users, but I wonder how it will fare sales-wise. Google Pixel products historically don't really sell a lot outside niche fans/users.
That’s also just part of the natural problem of round displays. Round works well for things like progress meters or watch hands, but so many things are better suited by rectangles because it’s easier to pack rectangles into other rectangles than it is to pack them into circles. It’s the same reason we don’t use triangular displays! That is an incredible amount of bezel...can you even fit a 140 character SMS on the screen? I know that UI is likely spaced out like that so that it is touch friendly, but you can literally see just one item at a time...
Ain’t no Ultra! It looks nice but looks too fragile to me. Definitely not a rugged edition.
I actually don't mind the design of this, but anyone who invests any time or money into any product from this company other than an Android phone or Google search is a fool. They will have a completely different wearables department 2 years from now with an all new team and OS and this device will no longer be supported.
Yes, I am one of those people who would actually consider purchasing an Apple Watch, if there were a round model. All I want is the time, Health integration, and other more background functionality. I don’t need a display for a lot of text. My presbyopic eyes can’t read most of that without replacing my reading glasses with higher-diopter glasses.
The pebble like shape is nice, but the screen choice is not.
I agree the Apple Watch design feels a bit stale, but it's so functional I can't see Apple deviating form the square-ish design.
What if you were the groom?Maybe I am weird but I wouldn't be embarrassed to have an Apple Watch on in a wedding photo.
