Google's Answer to the Apple Watch Leaks in a Closer Look Ahead of Official Reveal

While I love the design, the amount of bezel (obvious in some of the watch face pics) is so large - it really looks like a lab prototype with a non optimized display design or a bit of a toy.
As other round smart watches don't have nearly this big a problem, it does not reflect well on Google with the design. Rumors are the SOC will be several gens back (compared to Sammy's watches) with a tweak or two which won't be great either. Good luck to Google on this...they really need a 2nd gen with a big reduction in that bezel size and a modern SOC if rumors on that pan out.

Why do Android manufacturers keep trying to make round smartwatches? You’d think they’d have learnt by now from the Apple Watch.
Do a quick scan of this comment section and see how many people are asking Apple for a round watch. I was surprised that it’s a not insignificant amount.
So they also use a crown, and the GUI to pair it is identical to the one used in iOS. Copycats, It's copied here and there with tiny changes to make it look 'original'.
It's ugly and looks fragile. That display is loudly asking to get scratched.

Meh. Expect Google to abandon it in a few years. It would be lucky for these to be updated as well beyond a year or two. Google's track record on WearOS is not great. I'm predicting this will be killed in 3 years with the excuse of "low sales."
Not sure about the bezels - will need to see it in person before judging. It's possible they can integrate it well and it's a non-issue.
I personally think that analog watch faces on a rectangle apple watch look a bit silly, so the Pixel would (in my mind) do that better. The rest of the UI makes more sense on a rectangle screen.
But overall, I really like the look of this watch. Kind of reminds me of one of these...(and I need a watch face like this ASAP).

In classic Google fashion they will release them this fall, and abandon it entirely by April.
LOL. Pixel phones are getting "better"? The Tensor chip is mediocre in terms of performance per watt, even compared to Snapdragon 865/870. Bugs aplenty as well.

Round wristwatches were that way because they were easier to manufacture and the minute hand determined the diameter.
But the way we get info today is rectilinear. A round display because it can’t display full height and width without cutting off corners is forced to compress images to fit them within a square circumscribed by a circle.
It’s not ideal. There’s a reason tvs and smartphones aren’t round. Nobody outside the silent service likes looking at a little round screen.

Adding another fast food joint or resto on a corner is not necessarily bad for the two already on other corners. It brings in more traffic. It makes the intersection an “entertainment” or “dining” district. Hungry customers go there instead if to the lonely joint with nothing next door.
Competition is always good but the competition has to actually be competitive (or it’s just another dead google initiative walking).
Samsung had a presentation that had images of the iPhone and notes of what to copy exactly on it, then they did. I’d say this isn’t the same thing.
The OCR function thought the text was Chinese. The actual Japanese text is:

The OCR substituted the two Japanese letters in the sentence with the closest Chinese characters it could find, resulting in nonsense.

The Fitbit Versa 2, sells for $149 and the battery lasts for almost a week between charges. I think THIS is the best Apple watch competitor because it offers big difference from Apple. (cost and battery) while the other only try and match apple in price and features and don't make themselves different.
If you have a product that is the same price and feature set as Apple, I will buy the Apple product. It has to be different to attract customers. Fitbit offers vastly different battery life and price.

How old is the Apple Watch soc? They ship the same one, year after year.
