Bezels are thick but i think the design is decent and it's great that google has finally produced a watch of their own. with a tablet next year their ecosystem is certainly growing.

Barf. Meh. I do Like Gear watches. I fail to see what this has to offer over competition, other than more .gov tracking mining through google.

It looks like Luigi Colani got up from his grave just to do one final bad "design" with more curves than sense.

Colani was good!

The television looks nice!
Look at other TVs from that time…they were ugly.

Please do not disregard:
The truck was designed to be aero dynamic and therefore consumed 20-30% less fuel.
And look at the aero dynamic of today's trucks: still like a brick.

What a shockingly terrible design, lol. Seriously, how is this in any way competitive? Right. It's not. It will just be super cheap because you are the product.

Wow, let's just take everything from the Apple Watch and just make it round. No attempt to even try make it different
It is a smartwatch, some things come with that standard. I wouldn't say they copied the Apple Watch. Apple didn't invent the smart watch.

round is optimal, if you have a movement with wheels and analogue hands - and despite that rectangular watches have been around for long (look at the Jaeger leCoultre Reverso, the Tag Heuer Monaco, the Patek Philippe Gondolo, etc. etc.).

Now for a digital display that is a completely different situation - and I would say rounded rectangle comes quite natural there ...

So much happier with the Ultra.

FYI, if you have a M1 Mac or iOS device and don't know Japanese, you can translate that text by just highlighting it.

睡眠状態中心拍数乞追跡 = "Sleep state central beat begging"
yes indeed the Japanese looks strange - the phrase you quote doesn't have any Kana, it really looks like Chinese.
Probably just generated some random characters ...

Round watches are so 20th century. Smart watches should be square and never, ever have a simple watch face on them. They’re far too powerful for something as mundane as watch hands - put data and information on the face. It’s a smart watch, after all.

Round is a good design for a digital watch if it is only a watch. The challenge is once you get past the face and try to use it to display information you wind up with a lot of empty space or really odd looking ones. In addition, given the size limitations for a round face watch’s diameter, text has to be really small or you only see snippets and must scroll forever.

That would be poor human factor design, IMHO. Either it is very small area, making it hard to use, or so big you accidentally tap it. They could build it into the side off the casing, or as a bezel, but that would mean every time you touched the case, even accidentally, it would react; or you have a largish bezel around the face.
In addition, rather than being able to do things by feel such as push a button you’d need to look at the watch to ensure you get the desired response.

Like my Fenix is only a watch.

And there are some great looking square watches, too. I kinda wish Apple would do a bit more with square face design, even if it cannibalizes sales of the Apple Watch Hermes (which does a good job of offering stylish square faces).

Options are good for watch faces. I have watch hands on mine sometimes when I want the look. Still has complications with data around it

It's a marketing maneuver/dynamic. This will kick Apple watch up a step in gotta have ism game. That's good and bad for Apple - post is it's going to be a whole lotta more watches out there.
Apple might notice this by revision 3. There is no chance at all that Apple will pay this any attention at all. It’s not going to impact Apple Watch sales in the slightest. I’d love to see the impact that Samsung’s watches have on Apple, I doubt those give Apple much concern. This, won’t even be on the radar at the moment.

Maybe I am weird but I wouldn't be embarrassed to have an Apple Watch on in a wedding photo.
Yeah--I'm not sure why that would be embarrassing either. I've worn mine to weddings, funerals, and everything in between. I always buy the black model, so I can dress it up with my black metal link bracelet if I need to. I usually change it to a dressier mono-color face too.

I can only speak for my region of the world (the Chicago suburbs), but I feel like the Apple Watch is ubiquitous now. I know it has a lot of market yet to capture, but where I live they're everywhere. I see some Samsung models here and there, and I still see some Fitbit hangers-on as well. I have one acquaintance who's a mechanical watch collector who will not be seen in public with an Apple Watch on, even though he loves his iPhone. I don't know anyone else other than him who would be snobby about having any of these products on at a wedding.
