I was excited about the astrophotography mode, thinking they temporarily flip the the AA (anti-alias or low pass) filter off the sensor. But NooOOo...it's just fancy long exposure with AI hanky-panky.😒

Misleading ad claiming the iPhone is old. The original iPhone is old, the iPhone 14 is the 13th generation iPhone. Ugh.😩
I got some great pictures of the Northern Lights near Fairbanks Alaska with my 13pm.

I’m still hoping for a big 20th generation update to iOS that addresses all the technical debt. iOS was revolutionary in 2007. But now they are stuck with some of those design decisions. Like for example how Logic Pro for iPad requires the app to remain open in the foreground for an export to complete.

In 2007 it made sense to kill everything that wasn’t visible on screen. In 2023 it’s starting to feel very limited. In 2007 when you couldn’t add any new apps and the iPhone was 3.5” tall, maybe it made sense to force all icons to align to the top left. In 2023 it’s frustrating and ridiculous.

I don’t use Android because Google has no leadership and I don’t trust them at all. Every day I expect to wake up and see another Google service killed or fundamentally altered (latest is Google Domains.)

But man they did actually nail a lot of the actual smartphone functionality that Apple is still ignoring in favor of…karaoke? More stickers? Contact cards with bigger pictures?

I don’t know how effective taking a page off Samsung’s Playbook is gonna be but I guess it’s a step up from having your entire marketing campaign’s message be “did you know Google makes a phone?”

It's always funny to see them make their competitors look as bad as possible. Remember those illustrations of PCs when Apple compared its laptops to the windows competition? Hilarious
macOS still does this…

I thought they were well done. Nothing about them to convince me to switch to Android, mind you - I'm not in the new phone arms race because my phone does everything I need it to do, well.

I wish this would light a fire under Apple's a$$ because the truth is they have been getting a little stagnant and resting on their laurels.... But historically stuff like this doesn't really affect them and they just continue to march to the beat of their own drum.... The only thing that would rattle them and cause them to act would be a drop in sales.... and quite frankly these ads while mildly entertaining are not going to achieve that...Pixel should try to go after samsung so they can poach some customers there.... Much tougher task to convert an iphone user.

*edit* it's also possible that for the past few years they've been focusing their efforts and their best engineers on the vision pro... So now that it's finished iphone may get a little kick in the pants... tbd...

These are awesome. Not any bad jabs, just good fun poking, tongue in cheek shade, and the plateau one….didn’t expect to get so emotional lmao Google certainly wins advertising this round!

Umm so you do want an Android phone then. ;) I guess it comes down to what your prioritize.
I want iOS more than all of those combined. I figured that was implied.

But you know what I’d like more? An iPhone will any or all of those things.

Maybe the iphone should tell the Pixel “Ah remember when your creator commited treachery and betrayed the trust of my creator when he sat on our board of directors and stole our trade secrets to give you a head start in life?"

Ads that specifically target a competitor are always cringe and give off an insecure vibe, even when Apple did it.
This is mostly true, but it worked out really well for Apple... "the I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" ad campaign really swung the Mac-PC market share wildly, and increased the popularity of Macs with young folks, and college students.

"Quick, someone get a Lightning charger!" 🤣 Too funny!

Seriously though, Apple needs to ditch Lighting in all products and move to USB-C. Also, the iOS keyboard is trash compared to Gboard.

And Google needs to work on their custom chip dev because nothing beats Apple Silicon. Also, where is the Google version of AirDrop?

It’s interesting how Google is trying to present themselves as a “new” phone maker
Not to mention that the hardware is only part of the experience. The Android OS is nearly as old as iOS (possibly older, since it was acquired by Google).

Phones are a commodity item. They all do the same thing and it's just a matter of preference.

I haven't watched these ads, but the concept is about as innovative as Tesla mocking Ford simply because the Model T came out in the 1920s.
