Do you guys have any fan discounts? When i restored and activated it said changing your plan to this $20.00 iphone plan will cancel any discounts and promotions you may have. Will i lose my discount or it just says that because it's a iphone that was unsubsidized. Thanks

I don't have any discounts but if it does cancel yours, you can always get them added back on afterwards.

after the $20 unlimited data activation can i stick the sim in my 3gs immediately or should i wait a couple of minutes for the system to update? Thanks

Great find for those who want to get unlimited data now.

I guess AT&T can't put a stop to this as long as iPhone 2Gs are floating around ?

Its been almost 10 hours now and att still have not switch me to the $30.00 unlimited plan. However when I log in to my account online I see the $30.00 unlimited option now. Should I keep waiting and let att automatically switch me from the $20.00 plan to the $30.00 unlimited data plan or select it now from the online account? Thanks

I would wait till around noon or so and give them the chance. When I did this, they changed my data plan over to the $30 one within two hours. I did this two different times and both times, it was within two hours.

If they don't switch it over, you can keep using the data plan that you have now and save $10. They may not switch it over for months. If you want to switch it over, you can do it online.

So let me see if I'm understanding this correctly:

I'm new to AT&T as of last Thursday, and I signed up for 2GB plan when I got my iPhone 4. I stream ESPN Radio all day at work, so clearly 2GB will not be enough for me. So I can buy a 2G iPhone off eBay and two sim cards, activate it, and then select the unlimited plan for the 2G. Then I can reactivate my iPhone 4 and get upgraded to the $30 unlimited data plan, all while keeping my same phone number.

Is this correct?

100% correct.

not sure

I don't think this is correct. Just having the 2g phone does NOT imply access to an unlimited legacy plan unless that plan is CURRENTLY active on an unlimited plan. AT&T has said that if people LEAVE AT&T and come back, they will not have access to their legacy unlimited data plan. I would imagine that a 2g phone on ebay is NOT going to be active or have an active plan on it, and therefore won't give one the grandfathering into an unlimited 30$ a month data plan.

This is going to be just like with sprint and other carriers - I imagine where people are SELLING the transfer of their unlimited accounts as opposed to simply canceling them.

I'm new to the whole AT&T sim card thing. The iPhones use microsim cards right? Where can I buy two of them? Can I activate it from home using iTunes?

You don't need to buy them. You can go to AT&T and ask them for a regular sim to activate an original iPhone or you can say you want to activate a GoPhone.

As for the Micro sim for the iPhone 4, tell them you need to activate an iPad. These two stories will insure you get free sims.

Don't misunderstand. This is not buying an activated phone on eBay. Reread the thread and you will hopefully understand what is happening here.

This works. I have done it with two of my iPhone plans. Went from 2GB back to unlimited data by doing what I have described here.

I have a quick question. When changing over to the iphone 2g, are you creating a whole new contract for the 4g? and when changing it back will the contract for the iphone 4g change to the one you chose to activate the 2g?

I can confirm that you do not start a new contract over again when doing this. Your end date will remain the same.

i have a question ...

i am using iphone 4 with 2GB data on it , if I buy a brand new sim card and active it (transferring my iphone 4 phone number) with old iPhone 2g thur itunes i will get unlimited data.. that i understand

It's all been answered several times in this thread. Go back and do some reading.

i have read the thread , and thats the reason i am asking this question because some one mention they can 'reactivate' their iPhone 4 , i am just simply asking if i need a new micro sim or not to reactivate iphone 4

Can I simply borrow a friends iphone 2g and follow the steps here and they can just put their old sim back and everything will work for them?

I guess the question is, will anything happen to their current sim if I get my own as described here and do the steps? Does it deactivate their sim?

Thanks

Has anyone just tried updating the IMEI online and seeing if it'll work that way? If it does, you wouldn't need to deactivate your SIM.

EDIT:

does not work

worked for me! Borrowed a friend's backup 2G. Called them activated it on a blank sim. The guy added me on the $20 Unlim data + 200 messages, then I cut the SIM and threw it into my 4. A couple minutes later, it sent me a text saying it was ineligible. AT&T bumped me up to the unlimited plan for $30 and I dropped messaging, so I'm all set now :)

Thanks OP :D

Went to two AT&T stores today and they wouldn't give me the sim cards without the device. I said that I had an iPhone 2G and an iPad that I wanted to activate.

I should start leasing my 2g phone for $25 to whoever wants to in Chicago :D

You're not kidding! I wonder how long this will work though. Seems like they would close this loophole pretty quickly but maybe it's not that easy.

It's been 72 hours and my plan is still showing the $20.00 unlimited plan even though I put the sim in my iPhone 3gs and iPhone 4. I wonder if i should upgrade it now to the $30.00 unlimited in the online account tool or take a risk keeping the $20.00 plan and not being able to upgrade to the unlimited if they close the loophole. What do you guys think?
