I just got my black/chrome and I must agree, this does not feel like metal at all! Maybe metal coating? I dont know but it feels light and cheap. Overall I'm not happy with this $60 case. It looks good, but doesn't feel "premium" at all to me. I'd pay maybe $30 for this tops.

I'm definitely going to return this one.

You have no idea what you're talking about. The latch is not metal.

No need to be rude to GhostMac24. The site isn't that clear:

"Luxurious finish on metal latching mechanism that locks the case firmly around the phone"

But further down on the site they say:

"Beveled edges and metallic accents".

For what it's worth, I got mine, and I'm satisfied. Black/matte. The latch does feel like metal; it even feels cold.

There are a few drawbacks, but I don't think they're dealbreakers: The screws part of the hinge sticks out a little, so the case actually rests on the hinge at the top rather than the plastic. This creates a very slight rock and it's possible the stress will be uneven over the long term. Your ear also rubs against the hinge.

Overall, do feel it's of higher quality than silicon cases or the like. Perhaps black/matte is the way to go, or perhaps the wear-and-tear will show after more use.

OK, upon closer examination and using a stronger magnet...I do get a reaction from the magnet....but it is a weak reaction. I know stainless steel and alumnim don't react at all, this latch is neither. I honestly don't know. I hope it is not metal coated plastic because I don't trust plastic as the latch materal in the long run.

I hope it's much fuss over nothing, because I do love this case and I want it to last for a long time!... :apple:

You should update your original post stating the problems a lot of people are encountering with the case. I mean, a 20+ page thread with nothing but "oh's" and "ah's" for the first 15 or so pages can be a bit deceiving for someone who doesn't dig through and read. It would probably make Graft take into consideration these issues a bit more as well, as they likely know this thread exists.

Very good point. Done.

They call it, "zinc alloy latch".

Don't know exactly what that is, but it sounds a lot better than "shinny plastic".....;)

It sure does. I asked my father (not an expert but it is another opinion) and he also thought it felt like plastic.

I already emailed Graft about returning this case. Sucks about the shipping but oh well.

I never said it was but thanks for showing us how tough you are. Classless post.

Thank you for your kind words. As you state, that is where my confusion comes from and as I stated in my original post "I assumed" it was metal based on their web description. I'd like to hear what Graft has to say about it. It sure does sounds like on their website that the latch system is metal.

now i'm kind of anxious for mine to arrive, and not in a good way. the chipping issue is concerning, and though their customer service seems alright from my limited correspondences, i'm not sure how good they will be at remedying this for those that already purchased one :\

I really liked my white/matte finish leverage case but the sctaching part was the deal breaker for me. I also didn't see the case/bumper staying nice that long. it seems like the white matter finish wouldn't last too long.

I'm someone who babies everything to a tee. I just didn't see this product holding up that long....

The latches are not plastic, I can't stress that enough. Clearly there are people who need to go back to school.

Also, I've been using mine a lot now and haven't seen any of the coating rubbing off. I do try to be careful not to do things that will get the coating scratched. Please excuse the iPhone quality. I wouldn't go with the white bumper if you don't want it to look bad after a while like any white matte rubber coating.

that's somewhat comforting. i generally don't keep anything else in my pocket along with my phone (keys, coins, etc.), so hopefully i have the same experience

is there enough clearance from the cutout for the vibrate switch and volume buttons for the 4S?

Yes it fits the iPhone 4S.

Thanks for your demeaning post! Metal or not, this feels like one cheap metal. I'm afraid to bend it because it might break.

Got my case, and I love love love it. Put some tape down, snapped it into place. Very slim and feels great. No bubbling of screen protectors. Fits with a protector on the back. Love that the ports are cut perfectly. Very little bezel, but still a lay on the table design. Worth it to me right now since it protects my $300 investment. I'll keep an eye out for peeling and what not, and if I find anything, I'll notify graft concepts. But for now, this case is going to be my day to day case!

And for those wondering...feels like metal to me. Has the metal "clink" sound when I tap on it.

Graft should be sorry that they didn't use Tungsten steel.

Well, when you hear the word metal you certainly expect it not to feel like plastic. Sure technically it might be metal, heck, if you coat metal with enough gold it's also considered gold, so who am I to complain.

there are infinite variations of metals with different looks, feels, cost, weight, density, etc., so as long as it's not made from some flimsy, malleable metal, then all i care about is that it (a)does its job and (b) looks good.

I've been watching this thread closely, since I had one of these on order for my white 4S. I loved the look and feel of it. However, mine broke.

The latch is certainly made of metal. However, it is fairly brittle. I had my case for just a handful of hours before mine broke at the hinge that holds the top part of the latch (which looks to be the weakest point of the latch).

I had opened and closed the latch dozens of times over the previous few hours (just to admire it). The last time, it felt like it caught on something while I was closing it--like there was extra resistance. I squeezed a bit harder to snap it down..... and the pictures speak for themselves. I don't know if it made a difference or not, but I have a BestSkinsEver skin on the aluminum frame (to protect against any dirt or sand that could get caught underneath a bumper style case)

I emailed Graft about a refund last night (with the pictures). I have yet to hear from them.

Yeah! Pointing out that someone is wrong means I'm trying to be tough? That makes a lot of sense! Next time I'll try to be classy like you.

Go back and re-read your post. Telling someone that have no idea what they are talking about is not appropriate.

And then go back and re-read my post where I never stated it was or wasn't metal. I am curious what it is since it appears to be plastic and fragile.

And now after reading the condescending post of mister gadget mac stressing how they are metal contradicting your assertion that is is not metal, it sounds like the two of you might be a dichotomy made for some entertaining discourse.

It looks like tayball89 has confirmed what was assumed....it is metal but a very cheap and fragile metal.

As I said, I like the case and will keep it as I think it looks great. I just won't be opening and closing it frequently. I don't see a reason to take it off anyway.

Those pictures of the broken metal sure make my decision to return this seem like it was the correct choice.
