I’m really considering exchanging my Graphite black for a natural titanium model now. Just want something that may be slightly more durable than the aluminium

I’m betting it dlc too. It makes no sense to use pvd and have it match the case perfectly. Also if Apple went to pvd to avoid scratching then clearly they would have caught this in testing. Doesn’t make sense. Has to be a typo.

Agreed.

Look at the text for graphite, gold, and space black (via Google cache)

An additional diamond-like carbon (DLC) layer gives the space black stainless steel its distinctive finish.

An additional physical vapor deposition (PVD) layer gives the graphite stainless steel its distinctive finish.

It's just not clear which way they went - and given the color match between band and watch it seems less likely its PVD than it being DLC.

Each year it seems there are various issues with specs / descriptions. Initially there was no mention of sapphire vs ion-x crystals this year, then a couple days ago the specs page was updated.

The 7000 series aluminum is actually extremely durable, maybe even in some respects over the natural Ti, but, the difference with the 7000 series aluminum, you can’t remove damage, where as with the natural Ti, you can remove minor imperfections with ‘at home methods‘.

You may have better luck exchanging for something else rather then showing them the scratches. Problem is you will be waiting a long time for a Ti model and it will scratch even worse then the graphite. The black TI will be the same as the dlc. What ever you get avoid the Milanese loop. I am really happy with the Graphite and the black sports band with the same color DLC pin. Just like with the black Ti DLC pin, I took a butter knife to it and it appeared to scratch the DLC pin but the marks wiped right off with my shirt.

Yup, I guess I’m panicking with the graphite black. I love the colour though AND I’ve had a black leather loop arrive anyway, as the Milanese loop is going no where near it again

Reading this I’m considering to cancel my graphite order....

I’d say wait and look at it in person. It’s a beautiful colour I hoping my genius appointment will give me an exchange and it’s either going to be the same or the natural titanium. People say the DLC does give it a bit of protection, and it’s hard to believe that considering the damn Milanese loop may have scratched mine on first contact. But I also have a leather loop so I’ll be ok going forward with another graphite black.

I second this. Try it first just not with a dlc band. Those things will damage any dlc watch unless you want to take the time and care to store with properly. Never set the watch down as the braclet will scratch the ceramic back too if moved too much. A single watch roll would solve the problem but who wants to carry that everywhere.

If you are in your first 14 days (of course you are, as series 6 was launched one week ago) you can get an exchange without going through the genius. Just go to the store an get it swapped. I did several several times with some iPhone colors

The thing is that I had series 4 silver with Milanese loop, series 5 SB with black Milanese and never had any scratch. My concern is that the DLC in the graphite maybe is not well applied or maybe is just some devices (we all now that first units can have some issues)

Your lucky a lot of people have scratched those models with the Milanese. Maybe your more careful and know how to store it.

I’m thinking the same as I read now a lot of posts I different sites. I’m nearly canceling my graphite and ordering a silver. At least in silver I was able to remove the scratches easily

There’s no ‘luck’ involved with the Milanese loop. If you’re cautious, it’s not a problem. But I don’t see Apple Watch users generally taking the watch off slowly, laying it down in a very organized manner, not when it takes one time to be complacent and then it scratches it. For others, they can make it work. It’s just the risk you take.

I'm getting the graphite with Milanese ( only way to get it before Nov ) but I'm also getting a sport band and after reading this thread won't attach the Milanese at all..

I cancelled the graphite but now thinking I should have kept it on order .....

I’m actually the opposite. I preferred graphite, but now I’m thinking I might order the the natural Ti. I really like the graphite stainless, I think it’s sharp looking, but it resembles too much of the regular stainless to my liking, and obviously it’s completely different from the space black.

I have it as well. I would say that light factors into how it looks more so than any other Apple Watch. Sometimes it looks pitch black, sometimes it looks like plain SS. It's one of the reasons I am really into this finish, it's very dynamic.

But what about the scratches? Any issue?

It really doesn’t.

It really does. Another member already worded it perfectly, lighting conditions are everything, it depends how you’re looking at it, from what angle and if it’s indoor ambient lighting or natural sunlight. Perception can be very much subjective.

But what about the scratches? Any issue?

It Includes the DLC coating, so that very is much helpful in protection. The biggest caution that you will read across these threads in this forum, is with the Milanese loop band can be a problem with scratches.
