I jailbroke my iPhone 4 with the RC version of limera1n. Greenpois0n had not been released when I jailbroke 4.1. I had zero problems. It was an extremely easy jailbreak. Almost as easy as jailbreakme.com. The only disadvantage is the Windows only jailbreak - at least for now. Limera1n does not install Cydia by default. Click the limera1n icon and the option to install Cydia is there. I have not tried installing greenpois0n, but I would imagine that it automatically installs Cydia. As previously pointed out, they both use the same exploit and will suffer the same fate with the next update. Installing Cydia and the apps that can be found on Cydia is the major reason for jailbreaking (fun of doing it is a close second). limera1n and greenpois0n both accomplish this goal.

Hey guys,
I've got a 3GS updated to 4.1. I've tried MULTIPLE times to jb with both greenpois0n and limera1n using Windows XP running on VMWare, however, even though they say that the jb is complete/done, I never get the icon on the screen. I've tried turning it off, doing a hard reset, etc. I heard through the grapevine that 4.1 installed from a Mac can't be jb yet by either but I find this hard to believe, considering the number of people who have jb their phones. Any advice on how to overcome this?

I would do it on a true windows machine, either on a friends comp or through bootcamp. That should minimize any problems. Also ensure that the latest iTunes is installed

Getting mixed messages from some people about whether or not jailbreaking voids your warranty. Does it actually though? I mean as long as you reset the iphone before brining it into the store it should be fine, right? Or does apple have some magical way of seeing if you ever jailbroke your iPhone...
No they don't. At least not at an apple store. I don't know the process if you mail it in.
If you restore it before you let them have it, they can't tell it was hacked.
I had mine replaced 'cause it was bricked but not restored. They didn't go any further than that fact it wouldn't restore and wouldn't enter DFU.
I doubt they give two ***** anyway. If the phone is dead or obviously ****ed up and isn't apparently hacked or obviously damaged, what can they do?
I am trying to open the exe file and it crashes every time. Has this happened to anyone? I am using windows 7.

Apps kept disappearing, MyWi and My3G were giving me trial licenses even though I had previously bought them (Edit: figured out how to fix that), small nuisances that I assume might be the jb apps issues with 4.1 over the jailbreak itself.
all in all psychology I feel better havin it come from dev later
I got it to work with Parallels 6. It didn't work at first, then I rebooted the VM and it worked fine. Maybe you should try that.
i have a 3gs on 4.0.1, jailbroken and unlocked using ultrasn0w..
i read somewhere that if i upgrade to 4.1 and jailbreak using greenpois0n, i will loose the ability to unlock the phone..

So I did restore using TinyUmbrella ..

I tried the same thing with the same result. I think its because as the phone reboots etc during the jailbreak Windows re-detects it and - at least in VM Fusion - you need to click to reconnect it to the virtual machine.
I did it with a native boot of Windows (Bootcamp) and it worked fine.

I updatedto 4.1 firmware last night after preserving by baseband via TinyUmbrella. That went without a hitch. I DL'd Greenpois0n, and went through the JB process.
Everything seemed to go fine - only my phone is not JB'd now... I went through the process twice via the Greenpois0n software (put the phone in DFU mode - successfully, I think - waited for GP to do it's thinkg. The phnoe restarted, the end), and nothing.
Anyone have this issue or see something I might be missing. I'm un-jailbroken for about six hours now, and I'm not digging it, lol.

mee 2. I guess they just made the front page that way 'in preparation.' Look forward to the Mac version by the weekend--would really rather not mess with Parallels or Bootcamp.
If you have access to a Windows PC use it, you only need it for 2 minutes and can then go back to your Mac. I borrowed my son's, worked well enough.
Feel free to update your OS to 4.1 thru Apple iTunes then JB with Greenpois0n or Limera1n. I hear that you don't care about unlocking...but you should be aware that the resale value of iPhones is generally greater if you maintain the baseband. If you update thru iTunes you will update to the latest baseband.
You can maintain your current baseband and update to OS 4.1 thru Tiny Umbrella. There is a lot of info in these forum about how to do this.
Windows 7 DLL Error with Greenpois0n exe
I'm on Windows 7 and everytime I try to open up the Greenpois0n EXE file it appears to open up a command window, then the program window and then an error message says that the program cannot open because of some error with the DLL below. Anyone else run into this issue? My Windows is fully patched and the latest iTunes 10 is installed. Thanks!

Resale value is already pretty much nill because the proximity sensor was killed in a water dunk incident. Doesn't really bother me, but I imagine I won't get much for it a year from now when my contract is up. I figure they will probably have the current baseband unlocked by the time I would be trading in anyways.
