There is never and will never be a 100% guarantee with jailbreaking. If you need that kind of security, then I would suggest not attempting it. There's always a small chance that your iPhone might freak out and require a restore (usually nothing more dire then that), in which case you just make sure you've backed up your data on your computer.
If you're okay with just a high probability of success, then go ahead and try it.
Just as a note of curiosity, why on earth would you do something that you have "no idea what that means"? For all you know, you could have installed something malicious on your laptop. It's just pure stupidity to blindly follow advice you see on the internet. Take 30 seconds to understand things before you do them, it'll save you a lot of hassle your life.
If I already have my iphone 4 jailbreaked via the pdf exploit, do I need to do a restore before jailbreaking via greenpois0n? Or can I leave my iphone 4 the way it is (jb via pdf exploit) and proceed with the new jailbreak (greenpois0n)?
so my best bet is to sync with itunes in about 2 hours or so to backup my phone, and then off a friends windows comp attempt to JB it? That process wont wipe my phone of anything (assuming it works properly)? If so thats great! Basically I just want a way to always have a backup of my phone as it sits now on my comp in case I ever need it in the future
I can't remember, using any of the two jailbreak tools. You still have to backup and restore before and after jailbreaking so you get all your "legit" items back.

someone posted somewhere that the comp your jailbreaking from (be it a friends school comp or w/e) needs to have iTunes 10 installed and running??
That's correct as the Limera1n and Greenpois0n exploit needs some of iTunes 10's drivers to work (it must be the most recent version!).
That's just what I've read in the main limera1n thread. I'm on a Mac with no access to Windows so I haven't had the chance to use either tool.

I'd hate to have to restore and lose all my stuff and have to put everything back on once im at home - I'm at work at the moment >_<
**** it. I'm going to install iTunes 10 on my Windows machine and try the exploit. I sync with a Mac so I will report my results.
haha i was kidding slightly, im not an idiot and obviously i researched what I was doing, I just am not too knowledgable on the subject. I understand that I saved my 4.1 SHSH blobs in case something went wrong, because once Apple releases 4.2 they stop signing 4.1 blobs correct? So this way I have a backup to restore too if ever needed. Its just a good thing to have. I just wasn't sure as too how much this helps me, as Ive heard tinyumbrella sends it to cydia who obviously doesn't have my information as I've never jailbroken my phone. But thanks for the heads up on blindly following things haha
I did and none of them work. It appears as though the web server hosting chronic-dev.org is having issues today.
I just tried, and at first it didn't work, then I turned iTunes on, and it worked. Seems limera1n needs iTunes to be running for it to work. Oh, and greenpois0n did work, too.
Well... first attempt was a no go. I got stuck in restore mode and greenpois0n wouldnt complete the JB. It kept saying it failed. I got a white screen flash on the iPhone but it went straight to restore mode. From here I restored it from my Mac and it looks like its back on 4.1. I may try again later if I can get some more direction on what went wrong.
What was the point of releasing greenpois0n?

My IP4 was jailbroken with Jailbreakme.com ver 4.0.
1) I backed up and updated to 4.1
2) GP
3) wallllllaaaaa.... didn't lose anything except the folders I had everything in.
not sure why the need for everything to be spelled out...it was pretty painless...lets hope it stays stable...

I can't seem to find my post anywhere - so I am reposting this.
From what I can understand after reading the thread - it seems I am able to JB it on a Windows machine, and then resync with my Mac after? I primarily use my Mac to sync my music/video/ etc.
Am I able to continue to syncing with my Mac after - even though I JB'd with a PC?

Not sure about the newest Jb, but on previous versions it worked fine. I have a Touch 2G JB'd on xp that uses mac to sync no issues.
Also, that's what I'll be doing tonight after work, seeing as we don't have a mac version yet!
It was mostly done already, so that's a big reason I'm sure. There will be a Mac version soon, which is another reason.
I don't understand this either. I thought CDT was waiting to release GP when Limera1n got patched, with the new exploit that they've been working on. What's the point of releasing 2 identical exploits? From the looks of it, it's having just as many or more problems than limera1n. I will stick with my LR JB, really don't see any need to try GP.
Yes. I restored using my Mac, plugged my iPhone 4 into my PC to JB with Limera1n, then back into my Mac to sync.
