the version of greenpoison they released uses the same exploit as limera1n, so if limera1n gets patched, so will this version of greenpoison. so at least they didn't blow an exploit on recognition.
I understand that, what I don't understand is why they bothered releasing what is essentially the exact same thing, except packaged differently, and from the looks of it so far, worse. I'm all for saving exploits and ensuring that the community can enjoy jailbreaks in the future, what I don't get is why CDT seems to be engaging in what appears to be the same type of behavior that geohot was accused of - seeking attention.
Just my opinion, but if I had to guess as to how things went down, it went like this: Geohot told CDT about limera1n and asked them to hold off on their release. Was his timing bad? Yeah, undoubtedly. He should have told them a week ago, before they ever announced an ETA. CDT swallowed their pride and delayed the ETA in favor of saving a good exploit, and then after limera1n was out and working perfectly, they got butthurt decided they wanted a piece of the pie as well, and said, "Hey, don't forget we're still here, look at our wonderful tool! No it's not SHAtter, it's geohot's exploit, just packaged differently! Give us attention too!" and released the current GP, which IMO has no reason to exist.
Either way, I don't care. I'm all for diversity. If limera1n was still plagued with bugs, I would applaud CDT for taking the initiative and fixing the situation. But the general consensus seems to be that limera1n RC is rock solid, whereas GP has problems. And GP still doesn't have a mac version, so until they do, there's really no benefit to using their tool.
Just my $0.02
EDIT: I may be wrong about this if there's some other way that GP differs from LR. But AFAIK they use the same userland exploit to untether the JB, so if one gets patched, so does the other.
