I have the same problem(s) with my 2017 / 10.5 iPad Pro. I didn't see the problems until about 3 months ago. They seem to be getting more frequent and frustrating.

I have the same issue with my 2nd generation 12.9” iPad Pro - it comes and goes but sometimes it is very bad and typing on the onscreen keyboard misses many keystrokes and taps don’t register in games - hard restore didn’t fix - it comes back - some days I don’t want to use my iPad it is so bad

It seems to me, from my experience and from what i read online, that the 2017 iPad Pro are the most severely affected, with the problem coming more frequently and with more disruptive impacts on normal use than in the other models.

I was having big issues with my iPad Pro 12,9“, too.
I turned out the culprit is the „Zoom“ feature. Even though I kept the zoom level all the way zoomed out, I had the accessibility feature enabled. It interfered a lot with my Apple Pencil strokes and it hindered Procreate from recognizing any 3-finger gestures.
Since I turned it off, my iPad works without a flaw.
Either way, Apple should re-work the Zoom feature, as the above mentioned issues should not be happening under any circumstance.

Tweaking iPad software settings never helped me. I spent maybe 80 (very frustrating hours) tweaking various iPad software settings but stuttering always comes back immediately or next day.

Seems you’re right! I also see more and more iPad 2018 users with the problems recently.

Yeah - I have zoom off and have also tried tweaking all kinds of settings to no avail (iPad Pro 12.9 2cd gen) . For a while I was convinced that it was grime and smudges affecting the screen since it is obviously more sensitive then my previous iPads - but that did not seem to have any impact either

I find it does seem to be particular areas of the screen that are affected - when I have the problem with the keyboard i can get it to work by fliping the screen 90 degrees to change the keyboard location - am assuming that it works because the keys are at different spots on the screen.

I do find it frustrating that Apple does not at least acknowledge the issue - but on the other hand I do use the iPad Pro a lot and it is a really an amazing device - awesome sound, fantastic screen, and amazing performance - I could never go back to a mini or regular iPad

I noticed that Macrumors put this Article on the Buyer's Guide - that is cool and hopefully apple will take notice. Thanks !

All that being said I don't regret purchasing the iPad pro 12.9 - worth every $$ and I am sure apple will eventually sort it out

Unfortunately, I am also observing this stuttering problem on my iPad Pro 12.9 (newest model). It used to work fine for about 2 months, then the problems started suddenly.

☹️

My second generation 12.9 will often stop responding to touch all together and after many many attempts and using the home button to close and than reopen it starts responding again. I also get frequent problems with the keyboard. I have been super frustrated with this and it’s actually made me start using my iPad less because it’s so disruptive when it happens. I have been thinking of maybe not using my iPad as my main internet device anymore and switching to a Lenovo laptop. Especially if the newer iPads have the same issue.

Lenovo makes very nice laptops, you can't really go wrong getting one of their ThinkPads - I love the keyboards and the prices are reasonable if you choose a low- to mid-spec'd model. However as far as internet devices, may I suggest a 2017 MacBook? Mine feels as light as my 12.9" iPad Pro, but on my lap, with its great trackpad, it is simply the best (IMO) for internet and mainstream productivity uses. And they are popping up on sale from time to time with LARGE discounts. They are underrated!

I have a 2017 12.9” iPad Pro. This has been happening to me since 12.1. 12.2 update did not fix it. I have done a complete wipe and restore as new device. I’ve also tried every ‘fix’ that I’ve read online. It still does it randomly. Sometimes every few minutes, sometimes it will go a whole day working flawlessly. Praying that it’s a software bug.

Knock on wood- I’m not seeing this on my iPad Pro 9.7 2016 model which is running iOS 12.1.1.

Same here. 2016 iPad Pro 9.7 never has had this issue. My 2017 12.9 however does (original and replacement unit). Both running latest iOS.

My 10.5’ IPad IPro has the same problem. Sometimes in Safari the IPad doesn’t register my finger. To fix this i need to reload the page again. It’s very annoying, not a huge problem but should not happen anyway.

I thought about that or the new MacBook Air but the piece of crap butterfly keyboard is a complete turnoff. I’ve heard even the surface keyboard is better and it’s thinner

Exactly the same for me. 9.7 pro has been flawless and the 2nd gen 12.9 has the issue where it sometimes doesn’t respond to input.

Would be good if Apple acknowledged the issue and did something about it, but I can’t see Apple wanting to do a hardware fix if problem is as widespread as it seems.

Very surprised the 2018 models seem to have same issue.

My intention was to buy the next gem of iPad this year or next, but will be watching closely to see if similar issues are reported before pulling the trigger on a new iPad.

So you stopped buying apple products because of all this right?
i did. And with me over 30 other people who ask for advice on computer things. To creative suite guys i recommend powerful "modular" windows desktops (lol). Those wo rely on mac software (eg FC, Motion...) i recommend a Hackintosh with powerful "modular" desktop. Guess what the friends of these 30+ people will do when they see a 2000k DIY Mac outperform apples 5K machines, while being fully, easily and cheaply upgradable and repairable.

I admire you for sticking to your guns and not buying from a company that doesn’t do right by you. Too often we see people who clearly just want to trash apple products all day long and aren’t happy with them, but stay with them anyway so their complaints are falling on deaf ears anyway. If more people stopped financially supporting companies that don’t do right by them, it would encourage a hell of a lot more change and innovation than complaining.

Curious: what did you end up replacing all your apple products with?

I have been have the touchscreen issue with the new 12.9" 3rd generation iPad Pro 1 TB model. It was working perfectly for the first few months for me with the Apple pencil and the touch screen response. Then I started noticing it was being non-responsive to the Apple pencil very frequently and it was so aggravating that I brought it to Apple and they gave me a new Apple pencil. The new Apple pencil has been working very well, but then I noticed the then started to be non responsive to scrolling, finger swipes, tapping apps, etc. Sometimes it is non responsive for up to about 10 seconds, then will work perfectly for a while. It seems very intermittent. It is very aggravating. The touch screen responsiveness improved right after the last iOS 12.2 update but now seems to be slowly returning. It is not as bad as it was - but I am thinking of getting a replacement it it keeps occurring. I am not sure if it is a software or hardware issue. It has occurred after fresh reboots with no apps running.

I’ve not had any trouble with mine for a little over a week now. I’ve been using it the same way in the same place and everything is working properly. It does start to act up on occasion and I have a little bottle of anti-static spray That you spritz on the front of your shirt in your hand and the problem goes away. I believe the issue is static electricity. From what I’ve read of users with problems, most are using them in their lap. When you’re arms and the iPad are touching the same cloth is where I notice the problem, I believe our fingers are becoming static neutral. If you don’t want to get and use static spray, next time it happens hold the iPad up in the air with one hand take the other hand and lightly rub around the metal perimeter of the iPad with the other hand. And then start to use it again and see if that works.

I must ask though, why is it that the issue just appeared now if it is simple static? I’ve used all generations and never run across this until recently. Unless it is also a software issue that has decreased sensitivity so that static interference can appear of course. Either way, hope the problem is identified and fixed soon as this is quite annoying.

You can not change your IT infrastructure like your underwear.
It costs a lot of money (hardware, training, implementation). Many have a business relying on it and learned to work with Macs for decades. It can be a hard switch when your productivity suffers.
Also ecosystem lock-in is not a myth, that is why you will se a lot of complaining before people leave.

Started with replacing iMac desktop with a DIY PC in 2016. (AMD Ryzen 7)
Used it as dual boot hackintosh first but then switched to ubuntu and stayed there.
I am very happy with it. And it is very modular :D

Will replace my private iPhone with some cheap 150€ android i do not care about brand. Bought my mom one a year ago for this price and am amazed how well it works.

MBP2011 still runs fine, since i upgraded HD and RAM and swapped the DVD Drive for second SSD.
Don't now yet what i will replace it with, but will run on Linux/Windows. Heard think pads are nice and have working keyboards... company mbp2016 15" will be same, will run it until its dead and replace with some Linux machine.

Unless of course apple makes a 180degree turn and surprises us all with good hardware again and stop their leftists hypocritical SJW and globalist politics, propaganda and censorship. But i highly doubt...
