my 12.9 second gen has had this issue for a long time and none of the recent updates have helped or even mentioned it

It seems to be something to do with the screen sensitivity and will freeze for a few seconds or sometimes 10 or 20 seconds - at random - very frustrating if answering a text or email

Just want to add mine to the list. This has been occurring on my 2018 12.9 LTE since day one. Typing with the onscreen keyboard and it will randomly miss displaying the letters I know I have typed.

Have taken my iPad Pro 12.9 3rd Gen to the Apple Store because mine would stop registering scrolling, so I assumed the touchscreen is busted. They said diagnostics are fine, but can’t test the touchscreen as they only do that for iPhones.
Suggested I reset and set up as new, if issue persists I can just walk in and swap it for a new one.

If this really is just software, I hope they fix it since I absolutely don’t want to have to start setting up my apps and icons from scratch. Besides, if it’s software then it can just as well any replacement iPad Pro they give me.

Apps I’ve noticed this in: Apollo, Twitter, Apple News, Safari and keyboards in chat apps were acting weird. Have updated to iOS 12.2 recently and began to notice this in the GMail app when half the right screen was unresponsive.

I've noticed this since the 12.2 update on my 2018 12.9.

As an example when I go into Safari and click on an icon in the favorites pane it has sometimes not registered until I quit and restart Safari.

Also true tone is different and more blue but that is another issue.

It feels like a cacheing issue on an old Windows installation. Computer scratching around in the cached stuff on the slow hard disk, not doing immediately, what I want it to do. Sometimes forgetting a keystroke. Not a real issue, kind of annoying, but not really something serious to me.

I haven't had this issue with my 11 inch Pro. I have been pretty fortunate to only have some dust in my iPhone 4 camera back in the day. Nothing else though.

I’ve had unresponsive scrolling on multiple occasions on a 1TB 12,9 iPad Pro. The volumes buttons are also not clicky and sometimes feel as if they stick. I am not in a rush with these issues since iPad is perfectly usable so far (changing volumes from iOS) and the warranty period is still pretty long.

It will go for repairs sooner or later anyway though, just as my 13” 2018 MacBook Pro (2nd time being repaired right now). Guess I am a bit unlucky with recent Apple purchases or maybe, just maybe - there are lot of hardware issues in recent Apple products.

Unless you have evidence or the exact number impacted or at least SOME data, these threads just perpetuate the nonsense people echo on this forum.

"Quality has declined."
"Yet more issues."
"Apple shipping flawd products."
"Hardware issue."
"Where is quality control?"

A couple of threads doesn't speak for the 45M iPads Apple shipped last year alone.

I’m glad my iPad Pro isn’t effected. It’s such an amazing tool combined with my MacBook Pro; revising and commenting technical drawings.

But I have noticed a similar problem with my iPhone XS. Sometimes when I unlock and immediately start swiping to the next screen, the screen displays my swipe as a keyboard swipe; showing the different letters that I “touch”, as if there is a keyboard. It’s only there for a second and then I can swipe normally again. Does anyone else have this problem?

"Some iPad Pro owners"

This is a chronic and wide spread problem with the gen 1 and 2 12.9" iPad Pro. Not so noticeable in a work environment. Very noticeable if you are a gamer. Hundreds of posts on this site's message boards, and the only reliable solution has been to get a different iPad. Apple does not acknowledge the problem.

When Tim Cook started naming all the Apple products into PRO without PRO features or just neglecting the pro users. He exactly know what the meaning of PRO on those products it means PROBLEMS. The pro naming scheme is for the price hike.

My iPad 12.9” had this problem, until I bent it back’n’forth a couple of times, then clamshelled it closed and shook it violently for a few seconds.

Now it works just fine.

(Please! No one try this based on my suggestion. You need real skill for this kinda thing.)

Apple can't seem to do anything right anymore. Then when they are confronted about it, they offer a generic public statement and move on to the next thing. They can't even make quality products at this point. As I've often said in recent months...a shell of their former selves. I wish someone would just dethrone this POS company already. It's not on the level it should be for the premiums they charge over their active competition, they need to be taught a lesson, once and for all.
So you stopped buying apple products because of all this right?

Anyone knows if this happens from day one after the purchase? I ask because I just bought one and I want to know if I should be aware... Paying attention. Otherwise, if this happens after some time, I have no way to tell if mine is going to fail.

Thanks

It seems quite a few...
I’ve had this issue with my new 12.9”. I find that unplugging it and plugging it back in usually resolves it - I assumed it was some sort of ground loop issue interfering with the capacitive sensing. Every once in awhile i need to reboot to resolve, though.
people have had pretty good luck getting...

replacements for the issues...

you guys have been having. Might want to take yours in for an eval and possible replacement.

Both mine 2018 12.9" Pro and my wife's 11" have the same issue. Several times a day the iPad's are not responding to inputs for 5 to 8 seconds. Reboot seems to fix it for an hour or so.
