A workaround I've found that always seems to work - when my screen becomes unresponsive (iPhone 6s +) is to turn off the display (button on side). When I press button again, the touchscreen works again.
This article and problem is only addressing the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. You are probably experiencing freezing/crashing and could benefit from a full reset.

I have had this issue (touchscreen not registering touches but no gray bars) but thought it was either a software issue or some form of moisture (since it has been very hot this summer here).

Coming to this forum I might have discovered that my iPhone is developing this issue, but seriously doubt it will be "solved no question asked" by Apple....at least not here in Italy.

Will be calling them today to see if and what they can do about it.

It's ironic that a company so wealthy, yet possessed with greed, chose to skimp on materials. A more robust aluminum housing was ditched in favor of saving some money.

At least they caved in to public pressure after bendgate and gave the 6S series a proper housing. Too bad those with the 6 series got the shaft...
Bendgate was a myth, you had to treat your phone stupidly to bend it. Even the Samsung large screen phones were prone to this issue, if you put a large thin plastic and metal computer in the back pocket of your jeans then nature rewards your smarts, it bends come on!!! Apple redesigned the 6s to protect users from themselves, we have had 6 phones and never bent any of them. This issue is something different and I agree if it is as prolific as they suggest? then Apple should step forward. I am not sure it really is. If you are bending and twisting your phone then likely electronics will fail, after all Apple is not noted for selling tanks.

If bending was not a big enough design flaw. Just before the iPhone 6s launched, all the 6's I've seen on display at the Apple Stores were bent...

If Apple doesn't replace defective devices then we finally have a reason to fire Cook. Just as he did with Forstall.

I have the same issue, have had it on my 6Plus for about 6 months (bought on launch) and I never knew how to describe it other than the touch doesn't work on the entire right side of my screen, glad to see this is getting more attention.

If you're stupid enough to put your $800 ultra-thin computer in your back pocket and sit on it repeatedly then I have no sympathy for you and your broken phone.
For that money, not only should it be resistant to that kind of use, it should give the owner a massage while it's back there.

It's happening with 6S too. One of my friend has a 5 month old 6S and the issue is clearly noticeable. Sometimes the display does not respond to touch even you touch or press repeatedly.

My old iPhone 4s is running and looking like new. And it's 5 years old.

Granted it's been sitting on a shelf for a while, but seriously Apple? You can't even make a phone that last 2 years? And this is on top of Bendgate!

It's safe to say I'm concerned about Apple.
There isn't 100 million of anything on planet earth that could be considered quality. In those volumes they just become fast turnaround products of low quality sweatshops. Sad but true.

I had this exact issue with my iPhone 6+, luckily I had Apple Care and they replaced it, but now I'm worried that the replacement won't last.

Interesting article.

My wife's year-old 6 has the wonky touch screen issue, but no gray bars.

My two two-year old iPhone 6 phones don't have this, but I always carry them stacked together and in pockets where they get no flexing. I am thinking that being stacked reducing the possibility of flexing a great deal. Without being flexed, the solder joint is under much less stress.

I'm not offering any defense of Apple's response. I do agree with a prior posts that points out that there are a finite number of use cases a manufacturer of an carry-everywhere miniature electronic device can test for ahead of shipping.

Won't get aways with this unethical nonsense in Australia. Consumer law forces more than 12months cover from manufacturers for expensive products. Apple just hopes for customer ignorance and most to simply go away.

"For those without a warranty, iFixit suggests taking an affected iPhone 6 or 6 Plus to an electronics repair shop able to replace the chips."

Right...... I'm sure EVERY repair shop has the capability to remove/replace solder ball technology IC's with impeccable reliability. Let alone even have access to the IC's which may or may not be Apple proprietary.

Replace the board. Maybe. Replace the IC's?

Ah.... I'm going to give that a big fat no.

Have you heard repairs shops able to change storage chip and reprogram iPhone to accept the new storage chip?

It involving everything you point out. Good third party retailer can do anything you motioned.

define widespread, in percentage number of defective units over the total sold.
i'm not here to defend apple, i'm just trying to fight over-sensationalist news.

How many iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s out there? Even 1% of failure rate represents million or more iPhone failed.

By your logic, car manufacturers could easily say, only small amount of our customers experiences air bag issue, we have no plan to recall X, Y, Z model.

I have this problem on my 6+ (still under warranty) but since i drop it a couple of times (clearly you can see it on each side of the phone, screen is perfect), i'm not sure if Apple will replace it at an Apple store.

I used to work in an APR, and as procedures go. As long as the screen was intact we could get away with just replacing the device!

because faulty touch screen killed -or could potentially kill- how many people?
car comparison are getting dumber every day, please...

Hey so, how is Apple Music crap? It's pretty much beating every other streaming service in every fashion and Spotify are quaking in Apple's shadow right now.

Also, you realise Apple are sitting on enough money to run a western country for years? They could sell 0 iPhones and the company would still be around for at least another 40-50 years. Apple are not going anywhere any time soon, but they are in a slump.

People who think Apple are going to somehow 'die' or go bankrupt any time soon are frankly delusional.

You do realize that Apple is not debt free anymore m. All these bonds Apple take is liability at Apple's part

I'm soooo sick of the "Gate" term. People Watergate was not a scandal about water. It was a scandal that happened in building named Watergate. So how did adding "gate" onto a catch word become a synonym for scandal? The stupid negative media...and you all jumped on board. Here's an idea go read about the history of Watergate and stop falling for the media soundbites.

I had this problem with my 6+ for couple of weeks. It's been almost impossible to use the phone ever since. Yesterday I dropped my phone by accident to concrete floor and I haven't had any problems since that. DYI repair :D

I work as a Genius in Istanbul.
I can say that all of us are aware of this issue and we are replacing the devices if we can see that problem happening.
(Apple tells us so.)
So if you have issues and you can reproduce the issue go get a Genius Bar appointment and your iPhone will be replaced.
