Give them some style. Make them round kind of like this (obviously it will have to be bulkier):
steampunk-round-goggles-silver-goggles-showcase-456800_800x.jpg

Also good because the round goggle look implies to people that you can see them. Keep EyeSight but make it fun with pixel eyes instead of trying to go for realism.
Move processing to the back of the head to even out weight.
Would be nice to be able to quickly flip up/down the lenses.

Plenty of people buy "standard phones." According to Counterpoint research (MR article link below), the top selling iPhone in 2023 was the "standard" (non-Pro) iPhone 14.

As far as the price of early iPhones without contract requirements, the starting price of a 16GB iPhone 4 was $649 which is around $940 in today's dollars. The larger, more capable iPhone 16 with eight times the storage (128GB) is only $829.

Nobody buys the non-pro phones at launch. The pros usually get all the attention and preorders after they’re announced and sell more for a few months after, but year round I’m betting that’s where the non-pros shine.

Content, content, content

Gottta get mainstream gamers onboard as well as tons more video content through partnerships

Controllers are needed for gaming also (optional ones, but fully first party supported)

There is so much hard work to do here and none of it is about a slightly different physical headset with a lower price

Apple should consider how popular 2k Macs are in the mass market and then factor in how many of those sales they would've made if the OS was hobbled and the buyer had to wear the mac on their face.

Flopping like a fat kid on a diving board again i'm afraid.

Gaming is an obvious use-case but Apple doesn’t get gaming or courting devs so they’re gonna leave all that cash on the table

It's product suicide to not target the one specific niche that has shown itself to be somewhat successful in the VR space

Apple hubris is their largest liability
And gamers are a spendy bunch to boot! Well, outside the freaks that go to great lengths to use decade old video cards that is. I spent roughly the equivalent of a high-end Mac Pro for my current, dream system, I want the best. Many such cases. That’s not including my 49” G9 odyssey ultra widescreen.

This is gonna bomb so hard. Cheaper means around $500 to be competitive.

Anyone wiling to spend $2000 can afford to spend $3500. There is no tangible difference.

Apple is getting more and more out of touch.

Another necessary feature apple needs to add is the ability to share content between multiple VPs simultaneously so people / families with more than one can share "experiences" on them together. This would eliminate the isolation factor when using a single VP.

Yep.

What problem does this solve for anybody? Even $500 might be too much to get any real traction.

the max price should be 1500 anything above that they better not release or they will suffer a more worst sale than the current model

The eyesight thing could be replaced by a simple light. It’s the most head-scratching and cringe part of AVP. I hate that I can’t turn it off. I bet it’s expensive with that over-engineered lenticular glass and outward facing screens. Who though that was a good idea?

Which is still smaller than the 120 inch screen playing cyberpunk at max settings on a 4080 with GeForce now on the Vision Pro. 😀

You can play Xbox, PlayStation or PC games locally or streamed right now on the Vision Pro and it works perfectly. Why buy expensive ports of games from other systems when you can play the games you own?

It might sell well, but ONLY if they can get the content providers, mainstream apps (Youtube, Netflix) and unlock the potential for use watching sports.

I think it could be good.... but it desperately needs content deals to be made.... along with modest improvements to the ergonomics (e.g. lighter, less bulky).
I’m watching friends right now in Vision Pro as I reply to this message. The lack of native apps hasn’t been an issue since their party ones filled the gap a week after launch.

I don’t care for streaming my games, I am curious if/how you are playing PS games natively on the AVP with a high refresh rate though. At the end of the day a big 120” screen that doesn’t have the 240hz refresh rate of my QD oled is a non-starter for me but I’m glad some folks are making it work. maybe I should take one of our AVPs home from the office and try some stuff out if it will play games natively. I didn’t think it could.

This is where we differ- lack of apps has absolutely kept our fleet of AVP collecting dust outside of dev time

Two grand for a dumbed down blocky graphics version of the Apple Goggles. What a total con they are nowadays. I miss the days of Apple Computer Inc. It was so much more respectable and honest.
But but!! Shareholder value!!1!!

Blocky? You clearly haven’t tried it. It’s not exactly Mad Dog McCree on the SegaCD

Sure it all comes down to what you priorities. My buddy has a set up like you and loves high refresh rates but playing at 1440p to me cuts my eyeballs. I can’t do it. I’d rather a good 4K OLED.

Games consoles can stream locally to AVP with 0.33ms lag time. It’s barely one frame. Looking at my TV playing Xbox and the screen it’s streaming to in AVP at 90fps (FSR) there’s no contest.
