Exactly and there's so many people waiting for the new 27", it's been ages and would sell like host cakes. Very strange that the flagship (yes the pro was niche) has been neglected like this.
I actually think the 24 inch screen is an excellent form factor, especially for sales people and low level admin staff. 27 inches is too expensive and overkill for their needs, and if they remote in from home on a laptop, a 27 inch screen is too hard to read. Scaling a 24 inch screen to a laptop is more practical.

Methinks these releases will not be about the processors but the displays, time to finish getting their lineup complete with XDR! 24" and 28" XDR iMacs and an XDR Studio Display, here we gooo!

It seems very unlikely that an M2 iMac would happen this late in the game. The iMac would be a nice way to announce the M3. There was a time when the iMac was Apple’s flagship product, and it’s sad to see it neglected. Hoping for a Christmas surprise!

The M2 line of Macs only diluted the brand. They added no value. They had no reason to exist. The sooner they offer true replacements with significant benefits over the M1, he better. the competition has not been sitting still.

An M2 iMac might have made sense a year ago, but it doesn't make sense now. Especially if the rest of the product line is refreshed with M3 in the next six months or so.

Really? All the rumours previously said no new Macs this year now we are doing a complete 180? It starts to make you think Rumour sites are kind of silly.

I will be glad to see new Macs this year, if it happens.

I'm wondering what all the people with a 27'' Intel iMac are going to do now that the 2017 model can't be updated to Sonoma. I doubt that most of them would be happy with a 24'' iMac. I guess macMini or Studio and a larger display as it does not look as if there is going to be a new 27'' iMac in the lineup.
Work bought me a Mac Studio and a Studio Display. At home, I struggle with the 2017 iMac. A MBP might be more appropriate now, but I'll miss that big screen.

Interesting that the Pro/Max MBP orders are delayed. I wonder if they're going to introduce the M3? M3Pro? M3Max? All three?
It will be interesting to see...

"Mac redesigns are apparently likely to occur when Apple begins adding touchscreens to the lineup further in the future."

oh really? Touch screens you say?
Despite naysayers, I'd be willing to bet users will pay a $200 or $300 premium for nice touchscreens on their Macs. They might not touch them often, but they're likely to buy them. It would be a smart way for Apple to upsell users from the lowest-tier model for each product. "Well, I probably don't need it, but it's only $300 more..."

OTOH, if Apple ever intends to compete with Chromebooks for school district RFPs, a low-end iBook with touchscreen would be sweet.

Wait, touchscreen displays on an iMac? But, but…never mind.

Regardless, if they don’t equip this iMac with a M3 chip this year, but still wanted generate interest, maybe drop in a M2 Pro instead of just a M2 chip.

iMac have become a yMac - I don’t need one.
But bring me a sweet 12" M3 MacBook.

And yea, LoveFrom will design the new touchscreen's.
So we'll love to touch them 💕

A $200/$300 premium to stare at fingerprint-covered screens? I’ll pass but you enjoy!

why cant apple just keep everything the same but make a god damn 27 inch version of the iMac, that's all i want. no redesign, no new screen, no nothing, just give me a 27 inch screen with a m chip, sometimes you really wonder wtf those guys are smoking, taking away a perfectly good and popular 27 inch iMac and offers no replacement for years.

Reality check. If it was so popular and profitable they wouldn’t have discontinued it. People have a tendency to view things strictly from their own perspective and assume it’s universal.

Well, it was the last updated intel Mac for some reason, and you can still get them in the refurbished apple store. It and the intel Mac Pro are the only ones they still sell.

Sounds like you can take your own advice on this one...

I think its common knowledge Apple was very hesitant to introduce a 27" AS all-in-one Mac update when they were planning on announced the Studio Mac and Studio 27" Display solution a few months later. All they did at the time was stop selling the 27" intel iMac and say nothing about the future which is typical Apple.

Although I like the iMac I have no illusion of it being a device in high demand. Today the computer market is dominated by laptops and smartphones and it’s been that way for quite some time. Candidly, although I would have been disappointed, I wouldn’t have been surprised if they had dropped the iMac completely. But evidently they still see a viable market in AIOs that is still worth investing in.

Use mine as a TV monitor with fish bowl screen saver for my cat.

Not expecting to see an M3 launch now. The new iMac might end up having M2 itself. M2 iMac should have launched much earlier.

I couldn’t agree more.

Apple really needs to “cull” the Mac line.

(The iPhone line could use a good culling, too… At least ditch the stupid iPhone 13. You gotta take risks! — like Steve Jobs used to. He only had one iPhone line going at a time! Tim Cook plays it too safe. I think he’s a nail-biter. Most buyers aren’t gonna switch to Android because Apple dumped the iPhone 13, ffs! They’ll pony up the extra hundred bucks to get a better iPhone — especially if they don’t KNOW there’s the option of an iPhone 13. And they’ll have a better User Experience with the newer, better phone, and it will reflect better on Apple and the Apple Brand, and a better experience will positively impact Brand Loyalty.)

More often than not, when you simplify a product line, sales go up, not down.

(See books, “The Tyranny of Choice” and “The Paradox of Choice.”)
˙
Tim Cook is a typical MBA. He cannot think outside the box.

Apple sells old phones for premium prices because Cook is all about milking as much money from people as possible. He's not trying to create brand loyalty, but rather milk people who formed their brand loyalty due to the truly innovative products released while Steve Jobs was CEO.
