I'm wondering what all the people with a 27'' Intel iMac are going to do now that the 2017 model can't be updated to Sonoma. I doubt that most of them would be happy with a 24'' iMac. I guess macMini or Studio and a larger display as it does not look as if there is going to be a new 27'' iMac in the lineup.
I'm in that boat with my 2017 Intel iMac that Sonoma doesn't support. Gonna hang on to it for at least a year or two longer in hopes that Apple will get a new 27" or 32" out in 2024 or 2025. Just can't hang with a 24"...

The iMac yes, but a 14/16 MBP update so soon smells like iPad 3-4 all over again.

My uneducated guess is M2 iMac spec bump and that's it.

Exactly. Apple does same year refreshes when they made a mistake or just rushed something out for a quick buck or why ever they do it but they have done it a few times. I don’t think the MacBook Pros are likely to have this happen to them though. They have done it with the Air before but the MacBooks are solid right now.

Exactly and there's so many people waiting for the new 27", it's been ages and would sell like host cakes. Very strange that the flagship (yes the pro was niche) has been neglected like this.
Gotta say I would be tempted by a 27” regular iMac especially if (not getting my hopes up) it has 120Hz display.

Gurman: making up more BS for clickbait. I bet next he predicts the M4 after the M3. Meanwhile, Apple releases Macs with CPUs that are over a year old (M2).

People here really need reading comprehension classes.

Kuo said no M3 Macs this year... Gurman is also saying no M3 devices.
But new M2 Macs - yes.
While the current, M2 Pro and M2 Max 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models launched in January, he thinks that an "additional update the same year would be unusual, but not inconceivable."

I guess your reading comprehension told you that gurman said apple might launch new macbook pros with a new webcam?

Good opportunity to EOL the 13" MBP and M1 MBA—which should not exist. Frankly, there are plenty of Apple devices which should not exist... but that makes two of 'em.
Um, I think the MBA M1 is selling like hotcakes. We as a uni buy MBA M1 for around $600 and it has plenty of power for most stuff. Apple really needs a low-end, cheap product for the EDU business.
The MBP13 will probably be around a while longer since it got the M2.

Basically the ancient oracle at Delphi was more accurate than these "predictions" this whole year.

It might be one, it might be the other, one thing is for certain, something might actually happen.

In general, I don't know if I am allowed to talk about this as my last apple was the late 2012 Mac Mini and I have no money to buy even a cable for it now.
But I will say what I think either way. :p

If I had money I would definitely want to buy a new Apple computer. Something for video editing, at least 32GB of RAM, 1-2TB of SSD at a min. One thing I would also like is a larger than 24 inch monitor. Yes work can be done on a 24 inches, but I rather have the more relaxing feeling of a larger monitor for that workload. Something like Kramer's input on wider lanes. Hopefully with a different end result.

My point is, if I could buy one now and there was a 27 inch available, I really don't see me picking a 24 over it. IF of course there is no 27 at all, a 24 would do. But...why take 27 when you can take 24? No wait, it's the other way around.

No matter what happens, 27, 24, 32, 69, I do hope Apple actually has more colors than "political correctness silver or affiliated colors" for them. OPTIONAL. Also, if they do go for more colors, keep it lively on both sides of the computer? Not like the current 24" iMacs which are exciting in the back and prawn head like in the front. Keep it the same color on both sides. THE REAR ONE.

As a 2019 27" intel iMac user I feel like the next step will be either a Mac Studio (which is great but kinda overkill for any job that doesn't involve heavy graphics) or a Mac Mini (that is actually a bargain for its power) + double monitor (27 or 32) setup. I'm used to change Mac when they just don't cut it anymore, so I plan on using it for at least another 3-5 years. I still spin up bootcamp for some casual gaming sometimes, but also 8GB video card is on the lower end of what games require nowadays. Bootcamp will be missed, but might not be such the deterrent to finally switching to Apple Silicon.

A 27/32 iMac would be great, but I don't really count on it. Apple releases since the switch to their own Silicon pretty much state "if you want pro setups get pro machines"..

Some of us don't want a seperate display, and especially one that costs as much as an iMac itself.
Since the Studio monitor exists Apple are not going to undercut its price by making a 27" iMac that's cheaper. I think Apple stripped the 27" iMacs down to there bare bones for a good markup but also to offer more flexibility. I got my Studio display cheaper in the refurb section from Apple so that was within budget and it works fine for my needs and paired with a Mac mini M2 Pro 1TB its fast its quite and god forbid something goes wrong I can swap components out like replace the mac mini while its getting fixed or use a different display etc, having separates is I think the better way to go, and I came from a maxed out 2017 27" iMac whose power supply died, and fixing it was cost prohibitive as all the local shops that specialise in Macs said getting the screen off can be a royal pain especially if its been on for years and even with a new PSU there could be logic board issues if it had been on the fritz for a while, also it was not getting Sonoma and it seemed at that point it was time to update to Apple silicon, and I'm glad i did. Gone are the days of getting a 5K screen from Apple at the prices of a base iMac from the intel days sadly.

I waited for a long time (late 2015 27 inch Mac owner here) and finally gave in and got myself a 14 inch MacBook Pro M2Pro, and honestly, it’s an incredible deal. The machine is perfect and it only took me a day to get used to the size. I work in media production, and I was worried the screen would not be enough, but it is more than enough. Plus I‘ve got portability now. I probably won’t be buying an iMac again, considering how Apple doesn’t even let us use it as an external display. It’s now a media consumption device in my house, although it could easily be an external display if Apple weren’t so greedy.

My guess with all this is that the M3 updates for the first Macs (likely MBA, iMac, 13" MBP if it survives) were due around now, but the M3 chip on the new TSMC process has been delayed, pushing the MBA/13" MBP update into the "early 2024" window. Someone at Apple has then decided that the iMac can't wait that long for an update and to push out an M2 bumped product for some reason.

Despite naysayers, I'd be willing to bet users will pay a $200 or $300 premium for nice touchscreens on their Macs. They might not touch them often, but they're likely to buy them. It would be a smart way for Apple to upsell users from the lowest-tier model for each product. "Well, I probably don't need it, but it's only $300 more..."

OTOH, if Apple ever intends to compete with Chromebooks for school district RFPs, a low-end iBook with touchscreen would be sweet.

I really really really don’t want a touchscreen on my laptop. For starters touchscreens reduce display quality. Secondly, why would you ever want to use crude finger input, when you have a precision tool like a mouse or trackpad.

What would make sense to me though is an iPad that ran iOS when as a tablet, but macOS when docked. Can’t see Apple doing that though. The value proposition is just too high.

I have several Windows touch screen laptops and I have not touched the screen once. I only chose the touch screen option was because of the glossy finish which I prefer to a matte screen.

Work bought me a Mac Studio and a Studio Display. At home, I struggle with the 2017 iMac. A MBP might be more appropriate now, but I'll miss that big screen.
A friend of mine has a 2017 iMac, which still runs fine for basic tasks, but it's not up to dealing with CPU/GPU intensive work anymore. I use a 16'' MBP M1 Max in clam shell mode on a Studio Display, which is fast enough for everything I do.

I guess you could also get a 27'' display for the MBP if you need a larger monitor once in a while.

I have been impatiently waiting for an 27-32" iMac Pro with some type of Max/Ultra/XDR/OLED combination since Apple Silicon was imagined. It seems I will continue to wait. But...I still believe! 🙃

Rumour mill is throwing lots of balls this month. So many people said no more stuff this year, then this pops up

Although I like the iMac I have no illusion of it being a device in high demand.
It's not as in demand as the Macbooks of course, but I'm not so sure it's not in high demand. Apple wouldn't have updated it in 2020, nor still be selling it if it wasn't in some kind of demand. I bought my i7 27" iMac just this year from the refurb store. (and upgraded it to 128G of RAM) It can do some things only the most expensive M series Macs can do. (That and still run Windows too. :)

Candidly, although I would have been disappointed, I wouldn’t have been surprised if they had dropped the iMac completely. But evidently they still see a viable market in AIOs that is still worth investing in.
I would be VERY surprised if they dropped it completely, there's still a market for desktops and AIO's. Apple isn't the only one that sells AIO's, all the big players do and they do sell. Makes a great family computer.

My 27" will last quite some time, but I'd consider a 24" iMac if they ever beefed up the processor and allow more RAM. I really like the AIO form factor for desktops. It's also easier to support from afar for relatives...

I have a 24" as a second monitor to my 27" and two 24" at work. Why not? What I don't get is people only using one monitor. Don't they do real work? 😂
I only use 1 monitor 99% of the time. I work quite effectively. :)

You learn lots of keyboard shortcuts for switching apps and moving things around. I don't like moving my head to look at something when an alt-tab will be quicker and no neck movement.
