My opinion might be skewed, but maybe as a tribute to its 25th anniversary, and the product that saved Apple from bankruptcy, that it’s the first product to get the M3. At least that’s what I’m hoping…

That’s an outstanding idea!

I only wonder if the bean counters running Apple now have the vision, the imagination and the creativity to even conceive of such an idea…

But supposedly iPad sales are even further down and yet they don’t seem to offer anything new there…
And my M1MBA and my M1Max Studuo are running just fine, so I would not be in the camp of upgrades… and for anyone still on an Intel Mac, M2 is a huge upgrade…
But, let’s just see what is really going to happen before the end of the month

Re: “But, let’s just see what is really going to happen before the end of the month”

Ultimately, we have so other choice!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It would be better if Apple starts doing updates to higher end products like 14 and 16 MacBook Pros first and then all the other products with M3

Otherwise M3 MacBooks will have higher single core than M2 Max

Apple introduced the M2 MacBook Air in June 2022, but waited until January 2023 to introduce the M2 MacBook Pro. The precedent is there to introduce the more advanced chip in the lower end machines first and waiting over 6 months for the Pro machines. My guess is design and supply chain issues govern new product introduction as much, if not more, than marketing concerns.

Imagine if they finally update the Magic Mouse to USB-C and still put the port on the bottom.

They will probably put it underneath again to guarantee no one mistakes it for a wired mouse or tries to use it as one. That’s why they did it in the first place.

Apple’s been the source of ridicule for doing this; they’ve even had to weather criticisms that they aren’t the great Industrial Design company everyone thinks they are all because of this mouse.

But wires are anathema to Apple. They’re all about wireless. So they might just put a nice new USB-C charging port…right underneath again!

(Seriously, tho. It only needs to be charged, like, once a month for 15 minutes. What’s the biggie?)

The pleasures of a rumor site, constant back and forth, and always presented as news. :)
This way they can claim that they were right no matter what happens. A typical confidence game ploy; have multiple conflicting predictions on the table, after the answer is revealed, you only point to your correct prediction and claim your omnipotence clairvoyance.

Apple is planning a Mac-focused product launch, likely including the announcement of a refreshed 24-inch iMac, for the end of this month, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports.

imac-purple.jpg

In the latest edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman said that Apple is "planning a Mac-centered product launch around the end of this month" that could see the the release of a refreshed 24-inch iMac model, which is long overdue a hardware update. The current model launched in April 2021 and it is the only current-generation Mac left with the M1 chip. Gurman has repeatedly said that Apple's next iMac will skip the M2 and feature the M3 chip instead, but he declined to mention which chip the new machine will feature in this newsletter.

Gurman noted that Apple retail stores are now in short supply of the iMac, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro, and many configurations now will not arrive until mid-November, in what he believes is "a clear sign that something is about to happen" regarding these three machines. He added that Apple has "made headway" on new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros. While the current, M2 Pro and M2 Max 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models launched in January, he thinks that an "additional update the same year would be unusual, but not inconceivable."

Gurman believes that the upcoming Mac announcement will take place on Monday, October 30 or Tuesday, October 31, followed by Apple's earnings call on Thursday, November 2. He does not expect any of the new Macs to feature major changes other than new processors, but mused that there could be minor improvements to their displays.

Gurman also reiterated rumors that next-generation MacBook Air models with M3 chips will not launch until early 2024 and that a larger "pro" version of the iMac with a 32-inch display and a new design is tabled for late 2024 or 2025. Mac redesigns are apparently likely to occur when Apple begins adding touchscreens to the lineup further in the future.

Can't see anything other than an M2 iMac if that

If you plug in the USB-C Apple Magic Keyboard, it becomes a wired keyboard.

I'm wondering what all the people with a 27'' Intel iMac are going to do now that the 2017 model can't be updated to Sonoma. I doubt that most of them would be happy with a 24'' iMac. I guess macMini or Studio and a larger display as it does not look as if there is going to be a new 27'' iMac in the lineup.
I have 2019 iMac and when time comes, I'll probably buy n-1 gen Mac Studio on sale. I wanted to buy M1 Ultra Mac Studio on sale this year (with price lowered by 20% when compared with identical M2 Ultra Mac Studio) but my wife persuaded me I don't need one:p

I want to make the jump to the Mac Silicon but my 2019 27-inch iMac still been rock solid on Ventura (I'll try Sonoma later).

But I'd rather have the same-size screen or a tad bigger. And can't say I liked the pastel colours of the new iMacs. Swap the front and back colours and it's a much better look.

Come on Tim, new 27-inch or 32-inch iMacs just in time for Christmas! I'll hand off the intel Mac to my kids!

Hi end variants should come first... it's normal business practice. Intel knew it. Imagine if the iPhone Pro lagged half a year behind the regular iPhone and was being beaten on single core performance the whole time! Shocking optics

Uhm, didn't Gurman just write that there will be no new Macs in 2023? Way to cover your bases, mate.
That said, I would love to see a 27" M3 Pro or Max in the 24" form-factor. This is a great, super-fun machine and our trainee even prefers it to a better-equipped 27" iMac 5K... it juuuust needs a bigger screen :-D.

I couldn’t agree more.

Apple really needs to “cull” the Mac line.

(The iPhone line could use a good culling, too… At least ditch the stupid iPhone 13. You gotta take risks! — like Steve Jobs used to. He only had one iPhone line going at a time! Tim Cook plays it too safe. I think he’s a nail-biter. Most buyers aren’t gonna switch to Android because Apple dumped the iPhone 13, ffs! They’ll pony up the extra hundred bucks to get a better iPhone — especially if they don’t KNOW there’s the option of an iPhone 13. And they’ll have a better User Experience with the newer, better phone, and it will reflect better on Apple and the Apple Brand, and a better experience will positively impact Brand Loyalty.)

More often than not, when you simplify a product line, sales go up, not down.

(See books, “The Tyranny of Choice” and “The Paradox of Choice.”)

Apple know what they are doing, in the sense that their entire strategy is about the up-sell, but it’s makes for a sloppy lineup. That’s why they have three Apple Pencils, and don’t just coalesce around a single pure magnetic one. Essentially, they’ve no class and don’t give two s**** about streamlining their product lineup for their customers and their long term brand reputation.

They should, because it’s right, but they don’t care. Their entire product portfolio could be cleaned up dramatically. 10th gen iPad should never have existed in its current form, and iPad Air should have been renamed to be that iPad. iPad Pro should have more ports to make it more of a professional device. MBA should have SD Card to give people who use SD Cards the option of a thin and light laptop: teachers, office workers, executives, amateur photographers, and conference attendees. But again, Apple execs have no class so they won’t do the right thing.

Apple draws the line at mice then, I guess.

(and the Magic Trackpad — and the “Magic” Apple Pencil(s)…controllers, it would seem…)

My younger daughter has 21.5 4K 2017 iMac that I purchased used about a year ago. She would get ecstatic if I upgraded her system to 24" iMac, but right now the only thing I plan to upgrade is the slow HDD. Conveniently I didn't realize until a week or two ago, that I had 1 TB SSD from an old computer that has been sitting in a drawer for few years.
You cannot upgrade the internal SSD after delivery on any of the M1, M2 and [probably] M3 Mac. The best you could do is get a case and use the old 1TB SSD as an external drive

Again, I think a lot of the holdouts would be satisfied if there was a significant drop in the price of the ASD - to say $1199 or less.
I wouldn't buy it unless it were less than $700, and maybe not even then. The monitor part just isn't worth that much to me.

I agree with the vast majority of this, but I don't think it's class the execs lack... they just don't seem to give a ****.

A 24" would be big enough for me, but it'll have to have a better screen than the current one and support more RAM/faster processor. I have no desire to get the rumored 32" iMac -- that's too big. Give me a 24" M2/3 Max with at least 64G of RAM, and I probably would update from my 27" :)
Based on the current ARM M chips, you would need an M1/M2 Max to be able to have 64TB of RAM. I find this to be a MAJOR short coming of the current ARM M chip architecture. And the current chin on the 24” iMac is not big enough to hold a board with a chip of that size. Perhaps the M3 will eliminate those difficulties but I would doubt it.

who da heck uses 24 inch monitor these days.....
I daily drive a 16" MacBook Pro creating projects in After Effects and Photoshop with no additional screens. Went from a dual screen desktop setup to just using a 16" MacBook Pro ever since working remotely 3.5 years ago and haven't looked back.
