Excited to see what M4 can do when you take the training wheels off.

Looking at the iPad M4 it'll likely have the same core performance but better thermals (hopefully they haven't sacrificed those in a smaller package) which means longer sustained performance.

That'll put the entry level non-Pro about the same as a Intel i9-14900k in single core speed but with half as many P-cores as the 14900k. The whole thing won't consume 125-250 watts either!

I suspect the entire machine will cost only slightly more than an i9-14900k CPU on its own and not blow up after a month either.

Basically, pretty damn fast and a big uplift from an M1/M2.

Always that hard choice whether to continue with the iMac, knowing it’s always gonna be the base of the line even if you max it out.

Or make the jump to a Mac mini and the Studio Display. it’s a really tricky fuzzy gray zone of choice there.

I’ve been sticking with the iMac because I really do like the simplicity of just plopping it down and I’ve got everything I need. But I could be lured by the extra power and performance of the Mac mini and cinema display combo. Also not having to keep getting a new screen every time I wanna upgrade my computer. I’d only need to upgrade the small little hockey puck of the computer for the Mac mini. Assuming the new design is a small hockey puck.

The studio display is rather excellent and not an investment I regret. I've had one next to an M1 iMac on and off this year. I'm currently using my M1 14" MBP as a desktop machine with it. It never gets used as an actual laptop and it's 3 years old now so I will replace it with an M4 mini.

What about the standard iPad? (10th gen) It's from 2022. I want to get one for a kid but I don't want to get one that is that old.

Same here. No regrets with mine, especially when processing photos. It was a little pricey, but well worth it.

I really hope with this update they allow the M4Pros to do the same display trick as the M3 laptops. Ie being able to use the internal display output for an external display when the laptop is closed. Native support for 3 external displays (with lid closed) without needing to go up to the M4 Max would get me to upgrade (eventually). And it is clearly technically possible. Hopefully Apple lets this happen.

So happy to see the iPad mini on the upgrade list!

I bought a MacBook Air M2 and thought about upgrading to M4 hoping to play some games but Apple is so behind that even with 100% GPU increase, it is still slow.

Recently I found you can buy a powerful desktop for less than $1k and use it to stream the games to your Mac, iPhone, Tablet, etc. You just need a good internet or wifi connection. It's great because your laptop will run all the latest games without using a lot of CPU or battery.
You can keep the Windows desktop in one room, install all the games and play it elsewhere. And it doesn't have to be necessarily for games. Computing-intensive apps like CAD or 3D modeling.

The software used is Moonlight Streaming (NVIDIA open source) or Parsec.

If you don't want to buy a desktop, you can get Nvidia GeForce NOW subscription or (if more technical) use AWS or Azure computers and pay by the hour (useful if you don't play much).

Suspect week of 21st? But might be a shorter period for Mac’s than iPhone. Also think it will be before the 28th so they can big up AI which comes on same day allegedly.

Bout time! My money has been ready. My M1 MBP is safe but the mini is day 1.

Me too. Just bought an M3 MacBook Pro last year to replace my 2020 Intel based MacBook Air and I love it so I won’t be getting rid of that anytime soon but I’ve been waiting for an M3 or M4 Mac Mini for what feels like years now. My 2017 27” 5K Intel iMac has served me well over the years but it’s time to go to Apple Silicon for a number of reasons including Apple Intelligence and I love that 27” 5K display so I’ll be picking up an Apple 5K monitor to pair with the M4 Mac Mini with an M4 Pro CPU as soon as I can.

I image that one of those will last 6 or 7 years for me. I don’t do work with video or audio and only do slight photo editing, usually right there on my iPhone, so the Pro class CPU is probably overkill but if you’re going to spend that kind of $$$ why not future proof it for another year or two by going with a M4 Pro versus an M4? I’m a sucker and love the way the 27” 5K iMac looks with it’s all-in-one design but if Apple refuses to put out anything larger than 24” I’m out and it’s better in the long run anyway since with an all-in-one you’re essentially tossing a very, very nice monitor once you’ve outlived the shelf life of the CPU. Had I gone with an SSD over a 2 TB Fusion Drive (of which I only use comfortably less than 1 TB of … I kept telling myself I’d download local copies of all of my purchased movie content in the way I have with my purchased Music content and remove the DRM but streaming to my Apple TV or Apple Vision Pro has worked out perfectly fine for me and I only buy my video content from Apple at the moment) then I could probably get away with another year or two with it since OpenCore Patcher let’s me run Sequoia and I’d imagine that we’ll get at least one more Intel compatible version of MacOS for those who bought an early 2020 Intel Mac when they were released.

I rushed out to grab the early 2020 MacBook Air after Apple Announced the transition to Apple Silicon because it was entirely unclear then whether or not you’d ever be able to run Windows, which I need to do from time to time for work if I don’t have a secure Internet connection to use the corporate VPN and RDP to access my system at the office and if they only gave me 4 years worth of OS support I’d be pissed. 5 isn’t great either but anybody buying a 2020 Mac post the Apple Silicon announcement had to know 5 years was probably the most you were going to get.

My M1 Max MacBook Pro is probably the best Mac I have ever owned...really don't see a reason to upgrade in regards to speed or performance yet. Also, given that it has Mini-LED and Promotion, there isn't much in the display department I am yearning for yet either.

I really want to see if Thunderbolt 5 comes because that, cellular and Face ID are more meaningful upgrades to me than just the M4 generation.
I just bought myself a second 32GB/1TB 16” M1 Max in August to replace my second hand 16GB 14” M1 I bought a couple of years back. Both are awesome laptops with more power than I need. I’ll be keeping this until I upgrade to a secondhand M4 Max in three or four years or so.

Would love a laptop with a cellular option in it. Currently have to tether to my iPhone which has tethered data limited to 30GB per month.

I’m very excited for a new IPad Mini. It’s just the perfect fit for a device on the go and especially working in hospitals as it fits my scrubs and has more utility than just trying to do everything on my phone. I really wish they would consider it more like the pro but smaller as it honestly is a fabulous device
