On what basis do you claim that someone is an idiot?

Whenever Gurman says that some product won't be revealed at an Apple event, he's right.
For instance, many expected the first AS Macs to be revealed right at WWDC. Gurman warned a week ahead of time: no new hardware. He was right. He did the same on at least two other occasions while others predicted some particular products, and he was also right.
His reliability is about 90%.

Gurman is largely fed info from Apple to manage public expectations.

I don't even own an Apple Watch or whatever smartwatch but I do acknowledge the improvements Apple has been able to bring.
<shrugs> Probably depends on your use-case. If you're really into the fitness stuff then I suppose the swim functionality is good? The ECG is presumably useful for a niche group of users. For me though it's neat being able to quickly set and see timers on my wrist and see notifications, but there's still no killer app that makes it the sort of device I'd really miss, like my iPhone or iPad.

That's fine with me. Honestly. Update the iPad Pro with an M1 spec CPU and more keyboard / mouse features, refresh AirPods to Gen 3 and release an M1 iMac. show over, great job everyone.

Oh and new band / phone case colors for spring.

“Nothing particularly innovative or extraordinary" sums up Apple under Tim Cook’s leadership.
The issue isn’t that Apple hasn’t developed or won’t release something particularly innovative or extraordinary, but rather people’s expectations of what is innovative are not aligned with the space in the market where Apple exists.

Unlike other brands that can get away with launching undeveloped or under-developed technologies, like the foldable screened phones on the market now, Apple cannot risk making customers angry with some half-baked product. It’s why Apple often takes time to bring a technology to market, while other brands race to lead with something that isn’t quite ready for prime time.

The other issue they face is scale and the ability of their suppliers to produce new technologies at the volumes that Apple needs. It’s exactly the reason why Apple pushed ahead in developing their own chips, given Intel‘s inability to even meet their own timelines for product development. If I had to guess, we’re going to see more Apple owned advanced technologies coming to market in the future, so that they are not so tied to suppliers like Samsung, who also happens to be a competitor.

No. Apple leadership isn’t leaking to Gurman. If they’re going to leak they do it with someone else like John Paczkowski. When Gurman was at 9to5Mac I think he did get leaks from lower level employees in the company. Now it seems like he’s reading tea leaves more than anything else.

If Apple didn’t have anything interesting to announce, they would do it via press release. Airpods pro and airpods max both were announced via press release and those are a lot more interesting than run of the mill ipad refreshes. I don’t have to be an analyst to know gurman is off base here
Yeah if they have nothing to announce besides minor iPad refreshes an event wouldn’t be necessary they can just do a press release. Of course it wouldn’t be the first time Apple did an event for minor updates.

So basically what we all thought: boring iterative announcement that probably was supposed to be something more but had to be scaled back because of chip shortages.
Maybe they are holding back the good stuff for WWDC.

Bloomberg's highly-respected Mark Gurman says that he expects nothing "particularly innovative" or "extraordinary" to launch at Apple's "Spring Loaded" event next week, Tuesday, April 20.

Gurman made the remarks during an interview for Bloomberg Technology, in which he reaffirmed that Apple will launch a new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, with the higher-end model featuring a brand new mini-LED display. Gurman says these new iPads are only an "iterative update" to the iPad line, an increasingly vital product family for the tech giant thanks to the global health crisis.

The event will be Apple's first product launch of 2021, and speculation about what could be announced is nothing short of rampant. One of the biggest new upcoming products expected from Apple is redesigned iMacs, which Bloomberg has previously reported will receive a design that is in line with the Pro Display XDR and a more powerful Apple silicon chip.

No timeframe has been set for when these new iMacs could debut and Gurman says, "if the iMac does indeed get launched next, that's going to be a big deal." Apple is also reportedly preparing to launch AirTags, a circular Tile-like tracking device that can be attached and used to locate items such as keys, bags, and more.

The event will take place on Tuesday, April 20, and will be live-streamed via Apple's website, the Apple TV app, and Apple's YouTube channel. It'll kick off at 10:00 a.m Pacific Time, and for those unable to watch, MacRumors will be providing full event coverage both on MacRumors.com and through the MacRumorsLive Twitter account.

WHY is this news? Who cares if its not particularly anything 'innovative' or not.?! Like seriously?

This is a ridiculous tech reviewer trying to make a play as a stock researcher - cause that is ALL this news from Gurman actually pertains to.

Will it really affect sales of new/existing products?
NO
will it affect customers / reviewers / fans from watching this event online?
NO
will it affect partnerships that apple has?
NO
COULD it affect the stock price?
potentially, not necessarily.

So again why is this reported at all on macrumors site as news? It isn't.
No office to the person that wrote it up to post - we appreciate that, this isn't directed at/towards you.

Sureee, because all of us that WFH didn't bother with the iMac update last year and we spent whole one year in pandemic without a computer. SURE, now is the time for people buy - sure.
Hahahahahaha, insane

The explosion happened last year, not this year as this year is just iteration. Don't mix those two up for your own bias

Yes everything is pointing to new iMacs especially with apple prioritizing moving its consumer line from intel to Apple silicon asap.

Also with the explosion in working from home Apple wants a share of that market and refreshed Apple silicon iMacs is the next logical step.

The guy was specifically asked by the journalist if we should expect anything innovative. He said we shouldn't, unless iMacs are revealed. (I certainly don't expect anything groundbreaking regarding iPads.)
He did not come up in front of an audience and said "the next Apple event will be boring".
Don't get offended.

My wallet is happy that no MacBooks are rumored for this event. Especially since I just got the m1 air for home and the m1 pro for work. Now the question is, do I update my 2020 12.9" and 11" iPad Pro's? Or wait until next year..

It was needed to be reported. People were/are overhyping this event as something that will be amazing with tons of announcements etc. They see "loaded" as the event will have so full it will be crazy.
Instead, it will be usual spring event that is on the "boring" side. Just iterations and nothing else.

Managing your expectations towards an event is an important step to enjoyment. So I feel this is precisely why this was needed.

You may not see it that way but I do.

Also, since when people were reasonable?

I hope not but...maybe loaded in quantity but minor in innovation and excitement:

iPad Pro (new A14x chips)
iPad mini (same design but new A14 chip)
Apple Pencil 3 (same but just new styling)
Apple TV (upgraded with A12x chip)
Spring colour watch bands
AirTags (innovative but it’s been rumored so long, it’s not exciting)
AirPods 3 (new design, same features, lower price)

Why waste money on all this production cost if it’s just gonna be iPads with better screens? I would just do a press release and a quick video like Craig did last year for the iPad Pro with A12z and let the YouTubers do the rest. Or just wait until fall and launch everything. Well, at least my M1 will remain the latest a little while longer.

Apple might be looking at the global market and saying to itself, the demand is just not there to launch the new iMacs and MacBook Pro’s yet.
